  1. A very good article. You know, its really not all about the W-L record, its about the impact these coaches and teachers have in the lives of the young men and women they are around. He has a legecy, once that will be passed on that's for sure.
  2. I am happy to see that Coach Isaacs has made this move. I have watched him for several years and have felt for some time that it would not be long at he would get a shot at a larger program. Things I do know is that boys really like him, are inspired by him, he is fair and has a genuine heart for the kids. He brings with him a christian faith that the boys respond to also. I am looking forward to the schedules to be posted so as I can tip toe to a gym and watch him. Good luck Coach Isaacs, you will be a success where ever you are. Why must you "Tip toe" to the gym? I reckon I'll bust the door down then and watch the game!!! hahahaha

  4. Not to drag this string out any more than it probably deserves, but what happened to Staphert at Kirbyville? Staphert sure has bounced around from Spurger, to Kirbyville, to Brookeland, back to Kirbyville and now to where if he left. I am assuming he left if Odom went there as head coach.
  5. It may not matter at this point, but where did Spurger's ex-coach Odom go? Is he still on campus as a teacher only or did he move on to greener coaching pastures elsewhere?
  6. I think that they will be competitive but not reach the success they experienced the last 3-4 years for several reasons. The big one is that the little dribblers programs ended a few years ago and thus there is not a programs to teach the kids when they are small basics. An additional reason is the of this string, to hire and keep a good coach for any length of time in a 1A school is very hard. There is not a consistant influence and too many things are in play/flux. Up until the last taste of success over these last few years, there really wasn't a desire to be much or obtain much. If it happened, it just happened. A few people got involved in the little dribbler program, pooled together those boys and we all saw what happened. The last thing lacking is leadership in the district to be more than just average. That might tick some off, but from my view, soem just do not want to change. Thats my 3.5 cents worth.
  7. Thanks for update AggiesAreWe. One of the problems that face small districts is that it is hard to keep a successful coach for more than a few years. An exception to this would be Big Sandy. These 1A schools struggle for many things and athletic success is one of them. Getting a good coach and a good teacher in the same package is hard to find and these small schools just can not afford to have a great coach but a sub-par teacher.
  8. Makes me wonder if this had anything to do with the new AD. The district has had numerous changes in the athletic department this year. Maybe there will be some stability and the program can be respectable.
  9. A loss of this magnitude tells me that the Spurger team was not mentally or emotionally prepared. Unless something changes, Well will do the same thing.
  10. I'm with Catman, Evadale should beat Spurger easily in the double digits, possibly by 20+. Like Catman, I'm not sure if this will prepare them to play Normagee, but it is time on the floor.
  11. I've been looking for updates for this game as I would like to know how or why Spurger popped them for 100+. Just a week or so there was sizable amount of comments when Goodrich did this to Chester. I understand Chester may only have a few players (I think it was mentioned that they only had 8 in the previous thread) but there is no reason to thump a team like this in my opinion. If I was there I would have left early or been tossed to critizing the coach. Could someone post details?
  12. It looks alot like the gym at Tenaha. Tenaha hosts several tourney's and once you have been there you'll know why. Great seating, awesome dining and freindly personel.
  13. I watched Spurger play Warren a week or so ago. They are not the team that they have had the last 3-5 years that's for sure. The team is young and a bit smaller than previous. Also there really is not a bench to speak of as Spurger does not have a Little Dribblers program to build a program from. Watching these kids play, they have a lot of heart and determination and by the looks of it they will not give up. As with most high school or college sports, each year brings new players, skill level and ability. It would be very unfair to compare this group to the previous.
  14. For what it is worth, I asked my son about this since he was on a team that the b-ball coach required the players to run cross country. He said that he felt that it did several things. 1) it helped them to be better physically prepared for 1st practice. Note: this school doesn't have football. 2) he felt like he could go the whole distance. He said he does not know if was mental or physical, but he felt that having ran CC before basketball did make a difference. This probably doesn't change anything on this board, but from a players view it did help him.
  15. I agree Catman. He is a great guy with a ton of potential. His life changed this summer and he and his wife had to get themselves positioned for the future. Maybe we will learn more soon.
  16. Just heard that Spurgers head coach Isaac's is the new assistant coach at Big Sandy. I guess he went home. I am happy for him. Good luck!
  17. Would like to see how Daryl Mason at Leggett would do in Silsbee.
  18. Good luck! May you get to see some good PT and most importantly, obtain a degree out of this experience.
  19. I'm so happy for you George. You have worked hard and put yourself in a position to go to the next level. Many people are very proud of you and are wishing you the very best. Good luck!
  20. Wisk K'ville luck. K'ville should know what Stapert is about as he was there what 2 or 3 years ago? The players will do a lot of running, baseline to baseline thats for sure.
  21. I think that the MVP does not necessarily come from a winning team.
  22. The question is not about Perry or other poiticans. I am sure some would ask True Blue would be, "have you ever WORKED a day in your life?" I am sure some around you would say, "no". What's the point then? So, anyone can take anyone else's salary times the number of years worked and total a hefty sum. So? One could say the same to True Blue too. So. The point is, the local districts are in trouble by their own hands and by the state misusing funds. Now what do we do about it? That's the point.
