From the President:

“Although I firmly disagree with the court's holding today, the decision might not substantially constrain a president's ability to order tariffs going forward."

"That's because numerous other federal statutes, which is so true, authorize the president to impose tariffs and might justify most, if not all, of the tariffs issued in this case. Even more tariffs."

The Supreme Court DID NOT overrule Tariffs; they merely overruled a particular use of IEEPA Tariffs."

This is far from over…..

The other means have too many strings. That’s why he went the IEEPA way. The 10% across the board he spoke of can only be in effect for 150 days, requiring congressional permission to extend beyond that time. Trump don’t like to ask permission.

There is a list of others….not over by a long shot

I’m guessing refunds will require another lawsuit

He. What money were you talking about? Trump was asked during his press conference about refunding the money. He said it wasn’t addressed. His press conference wasn’t on The View, so you probably d it.

I listened to his lying mouth to my ear. Money wasn’t addressed because that was t the cause of action. How many times I have to tell you? I don’t watch talking heads.

Doesn't look like much will change.

Oh yeah, it will. Now he’ll have to follow rules and/or or work with Congress. No more dictatorial moves, and little Donnie doesn’t play well with others.

Then why did you ask?

Hypocrites…..

President Biden maintained most of the trade tariffs on Chinese goods initiated during the Trump administration, even increasing duties on items like electric vehicles and semiconductors
. Former Speaker Nancy Pelosi previously advocated for using tariffs to counter China's market influence, despite criticizing specific, broader tariff implementations.
Representative Nancy Pelosi | (.gov) +3
Key Details on Tariff Policies
  • Biden Administration: President Biden left many of the 2018-2019 China tariffs in place to protect U.S. industries and address unfair trade practices. His administration further increased duties on, among other things, solar cells, aluminum, steel, and, most notably, quadrupled tariffs on electric vehicles.
  • Nancy Pelosi: While Pelosi criticized the Trump administration's "chaotic" approach to tariffs as a "self-inflicted disaster" that harmed consumers, she previously supported targeted, "smart" tariffs to address unfair trade practices, particularly regarding China.
  • Contextual Shift: Critics and observers noted that some Democrats, including Pelosi, historically advocated for reciprocal trade measures against China, which mirrors the protectionist rhetoric later heavily utilized by the Trump administration.

While Biden and Pelosi often criticized the methods of the previous administration's trade policy, they did not remove the majority of the protective trade barriers

I don’t have a problem with tariffs…: I have a problem with Trump’s haphazard, punitive, ill-advised, with not strategy version of tariffs.

“That lady was rude on a phone call… 20% tariff on them! Stuff like that.

Announce a tariff, then repeal it.  American businesses can’t plan because his polices change every day. It’s no way to run a country.

The crazy part is IF the money is refunded, it’ll work like this. The tariffs were collected.  The costs were passed on to the American consumer in the form of higher costs.  If the money is eventually returned (and I don’t see that happening) those funds will just be sent back to the other countries.  In effect, Trump’s tariffs would have simply taken hundreds of billions of EXTRA dollars from American consumers who purchased for made goods and sent them to other countries. It’s the ultimate self-own.

It’s all so dumb.

From X:
Dr. Steve Turley:  Yep, this is exactly what we talked about on our livestream today. He can keep all tariffs using Section 232 of the Trade Expansion Act and Section 122 of the Trade Act. Tariffs are here to stay.

@WallStreetMav
LOL! SCOTUS’s ruling basically said Trump was using the wrong law for his tariffs, so Trump just issued the same tariffs under different laws and increased them by 10%. “Thank you for your attention to this matter.” - Trump

In his new conference, Trump says they didn’t even address the money. Amazing….

He acted like a petulant child. The same way he enacted some of the tariffs in the first place. This needs to stop. You can't continue to have a global trade policy change at the whims of a single person. That would mean trade policy could change every 2-3 years at election time. That's no way to run a business, and the U.S. is basically a very big business.

SCOTUS stuck with their majority textualist's interpretation. I appreciate their consistency.

@UT alum

What are you asking me for? The Supreme Court said that the President can’t override the Constitution at his whim. Whether or not a tariff based Federal economic system is wise will be proved out by time, not courts.

I’m curious if Trump’s apparent defiance of the Supreme Court will lead us into a constitutional crisis?

Congress COULD convene and cede all power to levy tariffs to the President, but I doubt they’d do that because the next Dem president will do the same thing to other people.

I expect calls from the right to pack the Supreme Court any minute now.

The Trump admin is a failure by any reasonable standard.

This why no president should have the unilateral power to levy tariffs.
