KFDM has an article about an upcoming gun buy back in Beaumont.

 The article mentions a justice of the peace and the city manager of Beaumont mentioning it in city council meeting.

Interesting.

 There is a new state law that went into effect in September that says:

“A municipality or county may not adopt or enforce an ordinance, order, or other measure in which the municipality or county organizes, sponsors, or participates in a program that purchases or offers to purchase firearms with the intent to:

(1)  remove firearms from circulation;

(2)  reduce the number of firearms owned by civilians;

or

(3)  allow individuals to sell firearms without fear of criminal prosecution.”

It seems interesting after reading the news article and the state law.

Maybe there’s nothing to it but when the article mentions a justice of the peace is helping to get sponsors, a city manager announces it at a council meeting and it’s supposed to take place on city property, does that cross into the “organizes” or “participates in” part of the law?

I’ve got the first gun I ever owned. None will ever be for sale. This buyback sounds fishy to me, but you will have some loonies give theirs up.

yeah, I do as well. I accumulate and rarely sell. I did trade two a couple years back for a nicer one that my dad was trying to get rid of. It cracks me up because most of the guns brought in are complete junk.

My Dad bought me my first gun. It’s a .410 single shot, bolt action Stevens. Bought at Sears & Roebuck on Broadway and Magnolia in Beaumont. My brother’s was the bolt action repeater.

Not only complete junk but from people who are almost no danger to society.

Grandma finds a gun that grandpa had but he died 10 years ago. Grandma is not likely to use that RG .22 short to rob a store or do a mass shooting. It’s actually probably a good deal for her because that piece of junk couldn’t be sold for $10 but she’ll get $100 for it. 🤣

And NOW the streets are so much safer!!

Does anyone think this proposed buy back is illegal?

I think so. I tried to turn this into a gun discussion. My apologies. No one should ever give up their guns.

What’s wrong with a gun discussion?

I was referring to the KFDM article and seeing all the judge and city manager defenders.

I saw yesterday that attorney and Beaumont city council member Cory Crenshaw posted on his Facebook page that paraphrased said, clearly this gun buy back is against the law.

But I’m up for a gun discussion. I have shot one or two of them.

In your original post, a buyback program fits all three intents, which to me, makes it illegal. I figured a gun “discussion” would attempt to highjack the buyback question.

First gun was also a used Stevens .410 with a tube magazine. Still got it.

Was it in the day of paper shells? Lol. My brother’s tube magazine was lost somehow but I was able to replace it many years later from an online store in Canada. I couldn’t believe it.

We had a Mec reloader that would load paper shells.  Funny you mention the tube, I had to backtrack on several hunts because I would look and the tube had come out. It wouldn’t lock well in place.  Would put tape on it to hold it, lol.

Unfortunately, I believe it was bad design. The ball on the tube didn’t protrude enough to engage the slot on the magazine. It could simply slide under from the spring pressure. We think my brother’s tube shot out in the woods when he fired his gun and he never noticed, which is what it sounds like happened to you. Still an all-around good gun.

Now that we’ve gotten past our first gun, I’ll ask you and everyone else what’s their favorite gun. It’s hard, I know, because we like them all, but there is still a favorite. Mine is my S&W 327 TRR8 Performance Center. I’ll pass it in to my son when I leave…..and the rest.

that's a tough one, but probably one of my Tikka .270s. or maybe the AR-10 that I spent way too much money building :)

Marlin 1895 45-70, limited use but is a great hog gun.

Both of you list rifles as your favs. Although I have a Ruger mini-14 Ranch and an older Remington pump .22, I’m a handgun lover, especially wheel guns, even though I have several semi-autos.

Looked up your 45-70. That’s a beautiful lever action. Please don’t anyone ever think that I am any kind of expert. I know what I know but am always open to correction and still have a lot of room to learn. I would say that Marlin could stop an elephant. Lol

It literally could with the right hard cast bullets.  I shoot the 300 grain soft points at 1850 fps, plenty for hogs. 🙂

My first shotguns had paper shells.

When they came out with plastic shells, I thought technology in the world had come to a peak.

I had a break open .410 that belonged to my grandfather and then father. My father would hunt with it probably around 1935 during the Depression.

 I loaned it to my cousin so that he hunt rabbits. His father was an alcoholic and got drunk and traded it for a bottle of whiskey. It would probably by about 100 years old by now.
