Weiss travels to Bulldog Stadium carrying an 8-2 record overall after knocking off previously undefeated Austin Anderson in their final district game. They average 47.7 ppg, and give up 16.5 papg. They feature mainly a passing attack with a brother QB to WR combination along with other outstanding receivers. They average 316 passing ypg with 44 TD's, and 12 INT's. Their QB completes at about a 70% completion pct. They average 128 rushing ypg with 17 TD's. Total ypg average is 445.

Pflugerville Weiss combined opponent record: 48-52

La Porte carries a 9-1 record, and is almost a mirror opposite. The Bulldogs average 45.7 ppg, and give up 23.9 papg. They feature a rushing attack led by Simon and Ruffin that averages 366 ypg with 44 TD's, and a passing attack that averages 138 ypg with 17 TD's and 2 INT's. The La Porte QB's combined have completed 60% of their attempts. Total ypg average is 504.

La Porte combined opponent record: 55-45.

Weiss gave up 367 yards on the ground to College Station two weeks ago, and La Porte's pass D is their weakest part of their D. La Porte will really need to wrap up the Weiss receivers, and get pressure on the QB to create errant throws and TO opportunities. They can't allow quick strikes and breakaways. On O, the Dawgs will need to play error free & control the clock to wear down the Wolves defense.

Should be a very good first round matchup.

Couldn't agree more with your analysis. LP's secondary has given me grey hair this year.  As much as I hate to see corners playing 10 yards off the receivers I can understand why. Even with the large cushion the corners and safetys still get beat deep and are out of position more times than not. Weiss QB will be licking his chops watching game film. Ok done with my rant. Pulling for LP. Optimistic prediction is LP doing just enough again 49 - 42.

I’ve noticed the Weiss QB makes a lot of plays when the original play breaks down. His brother comes back to him in open spaces, and bails him out. LP can’t lose track of him when they apply pressure. Passing lane discipline is going to be crucial.

This will be a very tough matchup. No lead will be safe.

Mine was already gray. I’m reaching the scab stage from scratching. Irritating because they seem to lose focus sometimes. They’re great one play, and bomb out the next. The arm tackling is going to be their downfall if they don’t correct it. This is one of the poorest tackling LP teams I can remember. Hopefully, they’ve addressed it again. Quit trying to make the spectacular play, and just tackle with fundamentals. Make Weiss drive the entire field on a sustained drive. If they can do that—problems solved. With the DL, not many will be able to sustain long drives without a solid run game which plays into LP’s strength on D.

Weiss also has a big OL they play both ways and move to DL. He’s a D1 talent. Big disruptor. Both of Weiss’ lines are big. They have a talented 6’4” receiver who can come down with big time catches as well.

They’re really only a few plays from being a 1 seed.

Hopefully they can bring it all together for the rest of the playoffs. I've enjoyed watching the 2nd string qb when he gets his opportunities this season. Perhaps they can use his athletic ability to help out the secondary If hes not going to start. Kid can play.

Agree. Wells and Smith. Gonzalez has done a good job & Stout is a playmaker. Then, the front 7 can do their thing. Pretty sure if we see this, our staff does as well. They are a solid staff and will have a plan.

It will need to be a classic “keep away game.” Our lines are going to need to play a great game. Get a lead, and keep the hammer down until the final whistle. No let ups. The Wolves can score quick.

Any info on weiss' special teams play? From what i can tell ours is suspect at best.

I watched them vs College Station & Anderson. No game breakers like Angleton or Kingwood. But, good coverage for the most part. The Anderson game was very windy. So, it was more difficult to tell.

I’d have to go back & rewatch for that. I was watching their lines a lot. I saw some definite areas LP can exploit in that area.

LP’s punting, PK, and returns are fine. The KO coverage has the same sporadic tackling issues as the rest of the D. Slightly out of position, and having to try to arm tackle. They just need to maintain their lanes.

All of LP’s issues are sporadic. They’re consistently inconsistent. So far, they’e had enough talent to overcome. That will change in the PO’s. Especially in R3.

I will say, great teams find a way to overcome when things don’t quite go your way, and games are tough. We’ll find out if they are a great team or not very soon. So far, they’ve been up to the task as the year has progressed.

I’d be fibbing if I said I wasn’t a little nervous. They’re a bad matchup for us. Same token, we’re a bad matchup for them.

It’s first to 6 now. Starts at 1.

You've got that right. R3 is loaded this year.  Can't really say with confidence who will end up in the R3 final. PA Memorial seems to be a juggernaut. If my memory serves me correctly, last time LP beat PA memorial in the playoffs was in 2006? All other times have been blowouts.

Sorry to get off subject.

Last time we beat LP in the playoffs was 2011 34-6. 🫡

La Porte is 19-13-1 overall against Port Arthur schools dating back to the first game in 1922 with Port Arthur Jefferson. Since PAM was ‘created’ the series is tied 7-7. The two haven’t played a PO game since 2011. LP won the district game, and PAM won the PO game that year. That was PAM’s first ever win against La Porte.

PAM was the last team to beat LP in the regular season in 2023. PAM came back from a halftime deficit and won the district game in Port Arthur. (LP still won the District Championship.) LP hasn’t lost in the regular season since.

Thanks for the info. Good luck to both teams this friday. Hopefully an injury free game with LP coming out with the first PO win in the new stadium. Im hoping I can make this one. Haven't been to a game since PNG came to town. Thank God they stream the games on YouTube.

Go Dawgs!
