AggiesAreWe Posted Wednesday at 06:59 PM Author Report Posted Wednesday at 06:59 PM I'll post my coverage area district picks tomorrow. Quote
Cu Chulainn Posted Wednesday at 08:12 PM Report Posted Wednesday at 08:12 PM Proud to see Orangefield projected to win District. @AggiesAreWe and or Coach @Tyerman can you tell me what factors are considered in TABC's decision making process? I have an idea, but don't really know for sure. They always seem to be fairly accurate. Quote
Mr. Buddy Garrity Posted Wednesday at 08:17 PM Report Posted Wednesday at 08:17 PM Look at this. @Yeoj @BMTSoulja1 Quote
Tyerman Posted Wednesday at 08:46 PM Report Posted Wednesday at 08:46 PM The district picks are 100% voted on by the coaches in the district themselves. They take the average place for each team and then seed from there. So the majority of your opposing coaches in your district agree with you all winning district and for good reason. @Cu Chulainn Cu Chulainn 1 Quote

That makes sense of how it seems to be so accurate. Quote

Some are okay with these district predictions by the coaches, but then get upset with these same coaches when all-district selections come out. LOL BBfan061 1 Quote
Tyerman Posted Thursday at 12:47 AM Report Posted Thursday at 12:47 AM All-district a lot of times is coaches in their feelings. We got hosed last year lost 1 game in district and win district championship but because of how we played we got penalized. We had 1 superlative (a team that didn’t make the playoffs got the defensive mvp superlative). And I didn’t come close to winning coach of the year. All stuff the kids and I still remember and will make sure shows up come district time. Coach.Shu and Cu Chulainn 2 Quote

I also know that these TABC district predictions is not always 100% coach decided in some of these districts. Cu Chulainn 1 Quote

True some districts they have to make up since some coaches don’t submit any info or votes. AggiesAreWe 1 Quote

It's all well and good to think coaches should vote objectively, but I think most coaches are more concerned with taking care of their own guys...as they should be. The TABC predictions are also skewed as there are all kinds of different agendas, coaches not submitting votes, etc. Only thing that matters is results on the floor. Quote
Bear Cave Posted Friday at 03:19 AM Report Posted Friday at 03:19 AM No PNG anywhere? I think they have a great year. Quote
pngfan316 Posted Friday at 04:14 AM Report Posted Friday at 04:14 AM PNG is a true sleeper in District 19-5A, led by senior Langston Adams alongside standout 2027 talents 6'7 Jonathan Cayetano and Daylan Jackson. This team has the pieces to quietly sneak into the playoffs. Quote

Just basing on the fact that I am not picking them to make playoffs but still battle for a playoff spot. TABC has them finishing 4th. Sleeper this year due to what they lost from last two years. Thank you for not picking Tarkington, again!!! Three years in a row we’ve watched you not pick them and three years in a row, we’ve finished third and made the playoffs. Then you picked Shepherd for the surprise team. I guess you aren’t aware that we return the best player in the district. Quote

I mean both of you have missed it for three years in a row so I guess so. Maybe it’s just time to give Tarkington basketball a little bit of respect. While you and the rest of area reporters except the Vindicator have been giving other schools their props, you’ve missed that the Horns and Coach Wynn have put 3 nice seasons together and continue to build in house. They don’t get the transfers that your friends over at HJ get. They just keep working hard and getting better. Oh by the way they went 2-0 vs HJ last year and handed them a loss at their house that kept them from going to playoffs for the first time in however many years. 🤘🏼🤘🏼 Quote

Did this year and last year. I have all the respect for Coach Wynn and Tarkington basketball. He has done a tremendous job over there. Look forward to seeing them again this year at some point. But it doesn't mean I need to pick them in my preseason picks. You bring up the Vindicator. They don't give props to several worthy teams in our coverage area. Should I chastise them like you are chastising me and others? We will see how my picks play out. But how about you give me your picks for that district? Quote

First off, if I’ve offended you in any way, I apologize. I like your commentary and picks. I was mostly having fun with you because for the last three years when these picks have come in, I’ve commented on here about us loving to be the underdog and every year that I have, we’ve made the playoffs. Was just trying to keep status quo. The comment regarding the vindicator was because they have done many articles on the Horns and I feel like he’s always done a great job of covering them. Regarding the picks I will be glad to give you mine. I will say the top 4 could easily be swapped in my opinion. I think the winner of the district will have 2 losses, that’s how close I think it will be. But here’s my opinion. 1. Huffman (coaching staff just finds ways to get the most out of their kids, guard play will be their weakness) 2. Livingston (return two solid players along with some size, their downfall will be their lack of coaching) 3. Tarkington (can’t break the norm here, they do return the best player, problem is he lost some help by graduating 4 senior starters.) 4. Hardin Jefferson (nice addition by adding talent through the “portal”, just returners from last year I don’t think will be enough) 5. Hamshire-Fannett (lost some talent and size and head coach. Heard they didn’t play well in spring and summer but honestly don’t know much about them) 6. Shepherd (best big man in the district but not enough shooters and talent around him) 7. Liberty (return a couple young talented players but lost their best two players and some size) Quote
