You could be the most frugal person, but how do you deal with law enforcement, firefighting in the military? We can save many trillions of dollars every decade by simply doing a way with those three groups or simply cutting them in half. If that’s your solution, great. thetragichippy 1 Quote

Making a ball room at the White House solves the problem. You have blinders on or live in a bubble. I understand retirement is living the good life but things have changed since you left for green pasture. Programs and grants have been cut off due to doge. Veterans were terminated from there jobs due to Doge. Homeless shelters are filled to capacity on the east coast. where did Port Arthur send its homeless? Did that solve your city’s problems and make Policing and firefighting easier? Did the homeless move to another area of your city? If so how’s that working out? Tvc 184 Quote

baddog Posted 19 hours ago Report Posted 19 hours ago Vagrancy and loitering used to be crimes. Most of the homeless are not “down on their luck”, they lost everything to drugs. We have made homelessness an acceptable lifestyle. Let the flogging begin. Quote

This is one of those situations where there really is no GOOD answer for the homeless. How do you help someone that does not want to help themselves? A lot of them are alcoholics or drug users, and all they want is the next fix. Some of them are just plain lazy and won't do anything to make their life better. Some have mental issues and need treatment. We can jail them for breaking our laws, and at least then they get a shower and 3 meals. It's easy to say it needs to be fixed. You can get all warm and fuzzy by saying they should be left alone....problem is, if you're being honest, you don't want them pitching a tent in your front yard. Businesses does not want them on their property, or in front of their business. 99.9% of people don't like walking around or through tents pitched on a sidewalk. Lastly, There has been a homeless problem for how many years? It certainly didn't just happen under either of Trumps terms. It has been an ongoing issue and getting WORSE - so, maybe throwing tax dollars at it is not solving anything. We've been doing that and it's not getting better. So, IF Doge cut those programs, maybe we can save that money for a better solution to the homeless problem.......because what we have been doing is not working. baddog 1 Quote

Moving them from downtown to your neighborhood makes matters worse. Place them in a recovery camp like they do immigration. A Camp that provides rap around services and teaches VT or culinary arts etc. The same thought process that went into housing immigration should have been applied to homelessness and not a knee jerk reaction. We lock them up but that only clogs up the courts and two are three days later they are back on the streets. Don’t let me start on mental heath. I have EPC mental health patients and brought them to the hospital. The hospital released them 24 hours later because DSS refuses to open a case. They have no more funding and the state of South Carolina has only 20 beds available. If you have health insurance you can be placed into a mental health facility and or a drug facility. I continue to do my part. If you are homeless depressed and want off drugs I get you help through Life Changers Out Reach which is a 12 month program the covers food housing and programs. It is faith based so you will study the Bible and attend classes. You have a roof over your head and you are surrounded by people that will show you kindness and leadership. It may seem like I’m dumping on other states but it’s the only tool I have right now to combat homelessness and drug addiction for someone who wants change. thetragichippy 1 Quote

I have to say thank you for what you're doing. I worked in the ambulance business for several years in my younger days. As a matter of fact TVC and I were both rookies......it was THAT long ago lol. A good majority of our calls were the homeless. I hate that we can't solve this problem. In Port Arthur there was a camp across from one of our Wal-Marts in the woods. The city allowed it for years until recently the city came down and cleared it out and made property owner clean it up. They just moved to a different location. DCT 1 Quote
