So, Tepp is picking Aledo over Angleton. Stepp is picking La Porte over Frisco Lone Star. Pretty high bars to reach. R3 PO’s are a murderer’s row. 9-5AD1 looks to be the only district with at least one cakewalk PO matchup. This is what I posted on the 5A board earlier today. This is not as fun but I think the regions are going to have a lot of similar teams in the running for state. Region Championship R1- Aledo vs Ryan. Only team I could see upsetting one of these teams is Abilene but even then that would be a long shot. R2- Highland Park vs Frisco Lone Star- hard to see anyone beating either of these teams, although there is a lot of solid depth. Red Oak, Midlothian, Cedar Park, Georgetown, West Mesquite, Burleson Centennial. R3- Good luck here. La Porte should make the regional final and then College Station? Angleton? Weiss? A lot depends on the bracket but this region is absolutely stacked with quality. R4- Reigning Champs Smithson Valley seem like a great pick, now just have to see the other side. Does Flour Bluff have enough? Pieper? Semifinal Denton Ryan vs Highland Park- told yall this wouldnt be as fun. Until someone beats these two in the playoffs, gonna roll with them. La Porte vs Smithson Valley- should be a very physical game. La Porte might have the best runningback in 5A. Final Highland Park vs La Porte- Hard to think HP loses back to back. Give me one of the Mount Rushmore TXHSFB programs for the win! But I will still be cheering for La Porte in this one. OlDawg 1 Quote
OlDawg Posted August 17 Author Report Posted August 17 Another piece of the puzzle for La Porte. Coach Johnson is a former All-State CB at La Marque. Looking forward to great things from the LP D again this year. Excited to announce our new Defensive Coordinator Domonique Johnson! He comes to us from Katy Freeman HS where he was the Defensive Pass Game Coordinator. Coach Johnson has multiple years experience as a Defensive Coordinator at great programs. He will also coach our cornerbacks. Coach Johnson has playing experience at the collegiate level at Jackson St. University and The University of Missouri! Coach Johnson played professionally for the Denver Broncos, Philadelphia Eagles, Detroit Lions, Washington Commanders and Indianapolis Colts! Welcome to LP Coach! #OneTeamOneHeartbeat Quote
purple reign Posted August 18 Report Posted August 18 It seems ridiculous to me for people to be predicting the results of supposed playoff matchups when we haven't even seen the first game of the regular season. Quote

Agreed, a couple of key injuries and people will be talking about “what if”. Quote

I'd charity bet you $50 that every team in the region final this year is some combination of the teams listed below. Going to add Richland and New Braunfels so there are 4 teams in each region. R1- Denton Ryan, Aledo, Abilene, Richland R2- Highland Park, Lone Star, West Mesquite, Midlothian R3- La Porte, College Station, Angleton, Weiss R4- Smithson Valley, Flour Bluff, Pieper, New Braunfels Quote
purple reign Posted August 26 Report Posted August 26 Angleton's defense has gotten some reinforcements over the off season. CB Jordan Hasker comes over from FB Marshall as a sophomore and already has 2 D1 offers. Lathan Newman, another CB, comes down from Shadow Creek where he led their freshman team with 6 int's according to HUDL. He was also the middle school defensive MVP, but they don't say whether that was just for his school or the district. Also Gavin Hebert, Angleton's left OT last year has apparently moved over to DT. He was 2nd team all district as a sophomore at Hightower in 2023 at DT. OlDawg 1 Quote
purple reign Posted August 29 Report Posted August 29 I'm sure the Angleton-LaPorte will be another close one this year. K-Park losing Gilliam was a major loss for them. He shared 1st team all district with Duron. I don't know what they have at QB this year. Doesn't Friendswood always have huge lineman? Angleton has played them a lot over the years and they're only 27 miles apart. Curious to see what Crosby has this year. They lost Yarbrough but may get better play at QB. Quote
purple reign Posted August 29 Report Posted August 29 I don't really expect Angleton to run that t-formation with the full house backfield much if at all this year. They were starting to get away from it in the playoffs and with a big time passer in Duron, I think you will mostly see them in the I formation or the gun. OlDawg 1 Quote

KP QB (Pavlatos-Soph) torched Montgomery. Friendswood is big again. I really thought Crosby would beat Dayton this year after hearing how well their QB looked in the scrimmage against Lee. From first game impressions, looks like KP will have something to say about the PO spots. Congrats to Kempner & Pasadena on their Week 1 wins! Quote

purple reign Posted Wednesday at 02:04 PM Report Posted Wednesday at 02:04 PM Anleton has their big rivalry game with Brazoswood this week. Last year the game sold out 8800 seat Wildcat Stadium and there were people trying to watch from the fences. This after an 8 year absence as Brazoswood in recent years has stopped playing anybody in non-district that still has a pulse. But they did finally agree to it for 2 years and they may go back into hibernation after the walloping they got last year and almost certainly this year. However they are on a 3 game win streak. After losing the 1st 8 games last year they won the last 2 games in a surprisingly easy fashion. They beat Santa Fe last week. However if Angleton goes 6A this time and UIL puts them in the same district they will be forced to play Angleton. Angleton is growing like I never thought was possible and AISD just opened a new elementary and a new jr high in Ashland, a new master planned community at the edge of town whuch will eventually have 2450 homes. The city told residents in 2023 that when there is full build-out on all the new housing units around town that have been promised, it will add an estimated 13.4K to the population of the city which in 2020 had 19.4K. A lot of growth! I don't see y'all having any issues with BWood. In fact, with y'all'schedule, I don't see any real challengers until--MAYBE--Kingwood Park at their place in mid October. One game is a small sample size. We'll have to see how KP plays against a pretty decent Dayton club in Dayton. They put the points up on Montgomery in a pretty good fashion. Quote
purple reign Posted Wednesday at 02:25 PM Report Posted Wednesday at 02:25 PM Friendswood the week before may be better than K Park. They lost last week mainly because of turnovers against a very good team. OlDawg 1 Quote

OlDawg Posted yesterday at 02:36 PM Author Report Posted yesterday at 02:36 PM Angleton is still doing what they should to inferior opponents. Friendswood had an explosion, and showed why they're a PO contender. They look to have improved greatly between Week 1 & 2 which is what you want to see if you're a Mustang coach, player, or fan. Friendswood being good is good for 11-5A. Kempner continued their winning steak, and Kingwood Park got demolished by a potent Dayton team that seems to be on the rise again. Crosby's struggles continue, and La Porte took down their second 6A PO team from 2024 (#14 R3 6A ranked Kingwood-Vype). But, they didn't have a complete game in all three phases. Special Teams play almost cost them the win. Quote
