AFanInTheStands Posted September 8, 2014 Report Posted September 8, 2014 I agree with everything y'all have said. Schools have to invest in their athletic programs. Yes, there are some schools that just have an abundance of talent and no matter what they will have success. Others, need to invest in coaching staffs, equipment, etc. But, it all boils down to priorities. Take Sabine Pass for example, they have an awesome academic team (I believe they have won the UIL Academic State Championship 3 years in a row) and an awesome One Act Play program. Their sports on the other hand are not very strong. But, they invest a lot of time and money in the academic side and not so much in the athletic side. Schools such as Colmesneil need to decide what they want to be great in and start focusing on it. If athletics is what they want to be known for, then give those programs a chance to be successful by investing in them. Don't expect a ton of success when you don't give them what they need to be successful. And what really kills me is districts such as Colmesneil and other districts similar to them say they are there for the kids, they want the kids to be successful. But, it is the kids who are truly getting short changed by the district not being willing to invest the money in the programs. Quote

But, it is the kids who are truly getting short changed by the district not being willing to invest the money in the programs. Sabine Pass has a handful of kids that actually live in Sabine Pass the rest come from other school surrounding districts. Sabine Pass ISD would not even be in existence except the school district gets a lot of tax money from shipping. They also have a screening process to insure they get the smarter kids and if a kid violates their rules they can go back to BISD or Port Author..... so basically they recruit ( from a high population density area) the smarter kids in that area so to be good with their academic teams. So they better win. To say" look at Sabine Pass" is not a good gauge on how to do things at all. Sabine Pass is also a cess pool as far as morality goes, foul mouth kids, hanky panky and A lot of homosexuality in that district but One Act Play has been a promoter of that stuff since its inception so no big surprise. And it is not an Academic vs Athletics thing either everything has its proper place as should athletics. Athletics is what helps a lot of young men actually finish high-school and athletics is what brings a community out to support the school or after reading this thread not-support the school. All small schools in Texas better have a plan for becoming or avoid becoming CISD's with other schools because that is what is going to happen. For people are moving to higher urban population centers. CJ04 Posted September 8, 2014 Report Posted September 8, 2014 See I have to disagree about the acedemics. Acedemics should be number one no matter what. Colmesneil competes in all sports except football because they simply will not invest any money in that sport! Look at colmesneils baseball equipment, I bet it's a lot better than their football equipment cuz because of all the state championships they have won in baseball! Who caresif your good in one sport and not other, right? That's colmesneil isd's attitude, as long as baseball and softball are strong they don't care about football. I don't think that's fair to the kids, just my opinion! Quote
