  2. All the WH fans get upset when someone gets on here and doesnt talk about how great there coach is. Stop being so whiney and just be glad you had a good season. How long has it been since you have had a season like this one? It'll be that long before another winning season roles around again. Appreciate this while you can and stop being so sensitive.

  4. Does your mommy know you are playing on the computer ? If anyone has a problem I think it is you. I bet you are wearing one of the LCM coaches old Jock-straps as we speak, is your mind always on that side of the fence or have you come out of the closet ? I am just giving credit where credit is due. Go to the KOGT sports site and you will see Leggett and Hicks (Freak of Nature) from BC, both Zone kids. Lets talk about the surgeries, the kids ruined those elbows long before the Zone was opened, credit goes to Dads that let their own kids throw 135 pitches per game while throwing two games in ONE week !!
  5. Kountze sets eyes on championship KOUNTZE - This morning, when the bus pulls out and roars past red and black decorations on the chain link fence in front of the high school, it carries with it the hope and pride of the whole town. Advertisement Don't think the team doesn't know it, either. Last year, after being defeated by Arp in the Class 2A regional finals, team members were in shock. "It wasn't expected," team member Trey Irvine said. "That's why it hit us so hard." They, like everyone else in Kountze, simply expected the Lions would go to state, particularly since they were coming off two straight state championships. So this year the team fought hard to redeem themselves. And they did. In this small Southeast Texas town, the Friday night lights shine brightest for basketball, which is the talk of the town during the season. News about the team's latest or upcoming game can be heard at the feed store, Dairy Queen or Mama Jack's restaurant. Kountze High School Principal Patti Carraway said people come up to her in the grocery store to ask about the team. "We have great community support," Carraway said. "It really makes a big difference." In a tradition going back more than 30 years, Kountze High School's basketball program has been the showcase for the town's best athletic talent. "Kountze is kind of a basketball powerhouse," said Fred Johnson, a retired resident. The players themselves are acutely aware of the pride their hometown takes in them and they don't take it lightly. They acknowledged that the pressure can be extreme. "You just gotta take it how it is and just play," team member Freddie Haynes, an 18-year-old senior, said. They play to win because they love to play. Their drive to win is honed sharp by the expectations residents have of a Kountze basketball player. Because of them, Kountze students can hold their heads up when talk turns to the athletics programs. Through the week, until school lets out Friday, the excitement will build. "It's wild and crazy around here this week," longtime government and economics teacher Dee Turner said. Monday, calls from Kountze residents looking for tickets for the state championship already were flooding the high school administration office, secretary Billie Jean Tate said. "The excitement is tremendous," said Tate, the wife of Ted Tate, the coach who nurtured the school's basketball prowess for 24 years. Basketball coach Duane Joubert said some fans plan their vacation time around the team's schedule. Victor Cash and his wife Tina are two such fans. Before each game, Tina Cash walks the parking lot looking for a penny - head's up, for luck - to give to Joubert. Joubert and others feel the team spirit is part of the glue that holds the community together. Parents, grandparents, aunts and uncles follow their young athletes' progress with pride - not just in high school basketball, but in all sports at every level. "They let you know if you mess up," Joubert said. "Not just on the court but off - where it really counts."
  6. Why doesnt anyone talk about the JV teams I mean with all due respect we try just as hard as varsity and we do have district games as well! Just asking for the jv teams to get some recognition! Thanks ;D

  8. Yeah you cant just go out on a limb and talk down about any team in this area...if they lost then it was for a reason, bottom line!!

  18. LM coaching finalists face public By Joshua Buckley The Daily News Published March 7, 2007 LA MARQUE — About 150 La Marque fans filed into the high school’s auditorium Tuesday, hoping to have their say in who will be the Cougars’ next athletic director and head football coach. The two finalists — Lamar Consolidated’s Lydell Wilson and Refugio’s Chris Jones — gave short presentations and answered questions from the hiring committee and the crowd about what they hoped to accomplish as the next La Marque athletic director and football coach. La Marque interim athletic director Larry Walker was a third finalist for the position, but informed Superintendent Ecomet Burley earlier Tuesday that he was taking his name out of the running. “I’m not at liberty to talk about Larry Walker,†Burley said. “He gave me the reasons he withdrew, but they were personal, so I am going to decline comment on them.†Walker’s decision caught many of the members of the crowd off guard. “I was really surprised that Larry backed out,†said Robert Nelson, a youth football coach for the Mainland Express. “I talked to him at about 10 o’clock today and he didn’t mention anything about it. I’m curious to find out why he took his name out of the running.â€
  19. Theres a JV talk thread man. And..... I dont know anyone from ya'lls JV, sry.
  20. just like in little league when all the parents, and uncles, and cousins, and bro in laws would lineup and and down the fence... then you have the other games of all ages going on around you.... then you have to pay a lady holding a bucket to get in the stadium then you have to go in between three fields to take a leak then you dont' have anywhere to park unless its in a ditch then there are 2 mounds then there are 7 bases then there is no press box, just a guy screaming into a microphone, when all he really needs to do is cut out the bottom of a paper cup, and talk... i could go on, but IMHO this all resembles a little league atmosphere no offense to anyone, just answering the guys question
  21. I personally love teams that make alot of positive "baseball talk" from their dugout. Fire your teamates up, etc. The negative talk directed at your opponent is bush league. BH played FT.Elkins this past weekend. You will be hard pressed to find a group of kids that has less class than the Elkins "boys".
  22. Gillispie wants Big 12 to lobby more for Tournament entries Aggies coach says league falls short in marketing its postseason candidates COLLEGE STATION — Texas A&M coach Billy Gillispie has voiced concerns that the Big 12 was not doing enough to secure conference teams more bids to the NCAA tournament. "I'm really disappointed in the way that people are perceiving our league, and I think our league doesn't do as good a job as our competitors do as far as marketing our league because we're talking about a team in our league that needs to win a game in the conference tournament and they've already got 10 wins? Give me a break," Gillispie told reporters Monday. Kansas State (21-10, 10-6), which finished fourth in the regular season, is still being mentioned as a bubble team for the NCAAs. Gillispie said that's frustrating, particularly when he hears that other conferences are looking at getting seven or more bids. "Nobody plays better basketball than us one through 12. We just haven't done a good enough job, in my opinion, as a league," Gillispie said. "I think the members are taking care of the league better than the league is taking care of its members in this particular situation." Other leagues do it better Gillispie said he didn't know "what the answer is but I know that some other leagues have it figured out." "I'm not one of those administrators or whatever, but I know the coaches and the players and the teams do a lot for the league," Gillispie said. "I think that they have to figure out a way, maybe study other leagues and talk to other leagues and be more proactive instead of reactive because our teams are too good and our players are too good and our coaches have done a great job. ... Why are we settling for a certain number of teams in the tournament when everybody else is getting more?" "I don't know what more the teams and the coaches and the players can do," he added. "We need to have more help." Weiberg says exec works on TV Commissioner Kevin Weiberg pointed out that the Big 12 has an associate commissioner dedicated to basketball and has worked to secure more national television appearances for the conference — including 35 on ESPN networks and eight on national broadcast networks. He also commended the conference's media relations staff for providing "as much information, as good quality information, as anyone." "On the side of just talking about the tournament, we avail ourselves of every opportunity to talk to our appointed NCAA men's basketball committee contacts, and I know from speaking directly to them that they believe the quality of information we've provided to them is very good," Weiberg said. "I think that the effort that we put into it is a pretty good one. "I know that coaches get frustrated when they see stories being written from time to time about teams with winning conference records potentially being so-called bubble teams, and I understand that frustration and share it. But I do think that you have to, at some point, have to feel like the process is going to take care of some of that and you have to understand that we're all working really hard to do the best we can for the conference." The Big 12 got six bids each year from 2000 to 2003 before dropping to four in 2004. Six Big 12 teams got in again in 2005 and four made the tournament last year. "I think our conference is clearly among the top five or six conferences in the country," Weiberg said. "From my perspective, if you have a winning or even a .500 conference record in the Big 12 you should be receiving very serious consideration to being in the at-large field."
  23. No, I agree JCfan. I wish they would have done better and improved on the talent they had, but the fact of the matter was that they were kind of hard to watch just because, like you say, they weren't improving during the season for reasons unknown to me. I'm not trying to be the bad guy here, I just got started typing and the next thing you know, I was on my soap box. WH is my home. I've always seen it this way. If I didn't care about it, I wouldn't express myself at all in these matters. Hopefully next year will be better. WHalum, I know what you mean about having coach/teacher/busdriver/bombtechnicians and for 30K a year, I mean hey, we had coach Bland teaching us about Health, on matters of personal hygene. Talk about underqualified. ;D
