  2.   Jeremiah Glenn PurpleMenace.com Staff Writer When a place feels right, you just know it deep down inside. That's how Dominic Merka describes his feelings when he visted the TCU campus on more than one occasion. With his pledge to the Frogs, Merka becomes the 8th commitment for coach Patterson and his staff. PurpleMenace.com caught up with Merka to get his thoughts on what separated TCU from the rest of the pack.   "It was one of those things where I just liked TCU from day one" said Merka. "I like what the program is doing and I felt like they really wanted me. I felt comfortable both times that I went up there and really, I just liked everything about TCU." Merka had a tough decision to make. With interest and offers picking up from other schools, Merka decided to end the process. So what was it about TCU that made him shut down it down? "The TCU players just seem to be more dedicated" he said. "When I talked to them, they just seemed like family and like they're really close. They play as a team and that's why they are above the other programs that were recruiting me." With Coach Gary Patterson and his staff working so hard to build one of the nations' elite programs, Merka appreciated the interest the Horned Frogs showed in him. With coach Tademy leading the charge to land Merka, his presence this spring stood out to the talented Texan. "I called coach Tademy and told him and he was real excited." said Merka. "He told me he was going to call coach Patterson right away and tell him. He's excited that I'm going to be a Horned Frog and I'm happy with my decison. Coach Tademy was out there for the first day of spring and that really meant something to me. It showed me that they really wanted me." At 6'4" and 215 pounds, Merka lines up as his team's signal caller in Crosby. In one of the national recruiting services he is ranked 45th in the nation among quarterbacks. At TCU, he'll get a shot at quarterback first but he's been told, he'll be placed in the best position to help the team. Merka admits to being on board with that and says he's just ready to contribute. "I'm not sure if I'll redshirt or not" he said. "They haven't talked to me about that yet but I'm just ready to get there and work hard. I'm going to take care of my business on the field and in the classroom and just work on getting better every day. I'm ready to play anywhere they decide, I just want to help TCU win a national championship." With another impressive commitment in the books, coach Patterson and his staff continue to build the core of one of the nation's most dominant programs. With his commitment to TCU, Merka wanted to give a promise to the Horned Frog faithful. "I just want the fans to know that they can expect me to work hard, day in and day out" he said. "I'm going to be dedicated to my team and I want TCU to win a national championship more than anything. I'm not ever going to let them down on or off the field." With momentum picking back up, it will be interesting to see how the rest of the dominos fall for the 2011 class.
  3. Talk about it in Hell's Half Acre Crosby, Tx is home to one of the top quarterbacks in the class of 2011 in Dominic Merka. The big signal caller has stated in the past that he likes TCU but his interest may have just increased after what transpired today. After visiting the TCU campus, Merka was offered a full scholarship to play football for the Horned Frogs. So was the visit what Merka expected?   Merka was offerred by TCU on his visit "It went really good" said Merka. "I got to tour the campus and I had a chance to see all of the facilities, it was nice." With the TCU offer now in his back pocket, Merka is looking to draw more interest his way and hopes to visit Texas Tech and Nebraska in the near future. "I was supposed to go to Nebraska this weekend but it was too far for now" he said.  With cold weather looming around Ft. Worth the last few weeks, the sun was a welcome sight for the locals and it made for a perfect day for a visit. So did anything catch Merka's eye while in town? "I really just like how everything is close together" he said. "I liked the way the campus was layed out and I enjoyed my visit. They offered me but I didn't commit. I want to take a little time before I commit somewhere." On a scale from 1 to 10, how did his visit rate? "I would say it was about an 8" said Merka. "There were a few other prospects there and I met a couple of them but they were ariving at different times and I only got to meet a couple of them. Overall it was a good visit though and TCU is a school that I'm interested in." While Merka holds just one offer, more could be on the way very soon. At 6'4" and 215 pounds, Merka has the perfect size for a college quarterback. A true dual threat, Merka hopes to improve on his junior year performance and lead his team to a championship. While it may be a while before he pulls the trigger on a commitment, stay logged on to PurpleMenace.com and we'll keep you up to date with all the latest in Merka's recruitment.
  4. November 2, 2009 Brian Perroni AggieYell.com Recruiting Analyst Though the state of Texas has become a hotbed for the quarterback position, the class of 2011 is seen as somewhat of a down year in the state for passers. However, there are a few top prospects that have already made their way onto college radars. One of those is Crosby's Dominic Merka. The 6-foot-4, 215-pound Houston-area standout has been receiving interest from several schools already.   Crosby junior quarterback Dominic Merka attended Texas A&M's game this past Saturday. "I've been hearing from pretty much the same schools since the start of the year," Merka said. "It's picked up a little from all of them since the season has gone on, though. (Texas) A&M is probably sending me the most stuff. I'm also hearing a lot from LSU, Kansas, TCU, Houston and some other schools here and there. Nobody has really said anything about offering yet." This past weekend, the dual-threat passer made his way to College Station to take in the Aggies' victory over Iowa State. "It went well," Merka said of the A&M game. "I had fun watching them play and stuff. They're a fun team to watch. They have a lot of young guys out there, too." While in Aggieland, Merka had a chance to talk with his recruiter as well as a couple of other prospects that were in attendance. "I talked to coach (Jim) Turner a little bit," he said. "He's my recruiting coach. We talked before the game about my season and everything. "I got a chance to know a couple of the other recruits as well. There were two guys from St. Pius (cornerback Kolby Griffin and linebacker Kellen Jones) that were sitting in front of me. My family and their families were talking the whole time. They were real cool." Merka has been to a game at one other school this season and has plans to take in another as well. "I've also been to a Houston game," he said. "I went there to watch them play Texas Tech. That was a really good game. I had a lot of fun there too. It was a good experience. I'm going to try to make it to a TCU one this year as well." He also was able to attend several camps this past summer. At A&M, he had a chance to work with quarterback coach Tom Rossley. "I went to the quarterback camp at A&M this past summer," Merka said. "I got to work with coach Rossley on drills and stuff. We didn't really have one-on-time, but there was a group of guys that got to spend some time with him. I also went to a TCU one, an Oklahoma State one, a Houston one and a Baylor one." While he has seen several campuses, Merka says it is much too early to name any top schools. "I don't really have a favorite school where I really want to go right now," he said. "I just want a chance to play college football somewhere. I haven't grown up rooting for one team or anything like that." Merka is a true dual-threat quarterback, running for 662 yards and six touchdowns on only 98 carries this year. In a win over Galena Park this past weekend, he rushed seven times for 168 yards and a touchdown. He feels his athleticism is a big benefit. "I think I'm playing well this year," he said. "I'm more confident than last year. I've got better ball control and I can read situations a lot better with a year of experience. "Most of my runs are designed runs. I think only one of my seven carries this past weekend was on a scramble. I think my speed and running ability are things that set me apart from other players. I think they're big assets."
  5. Its been a bad year..Don't have the athletes as in the past...The Frank transfer for ACADEMIC reasons to Dayton really hurt the offense..Everyone just loads up to stop Merka..None of the OL had started in a varsity game before this year and Merka is really getting killed every play..Kids said he was on crutches at school couple weeks ago..Defense is really undersized..LB's look to be about 160/lbs...Really think if GCM throws the ball well should be easy win.....
  6. Doesn't matter what offense you run against Crosby..I see Crosby only winning 2 more district games...GP and NF...
  7. I believe your right on the money for picks for 19-4A...Crosby is up ---creek with no pattle....No Oline or defense..Kids at school said the QB has not been able to walk all week at school,Taken a beating in last 2 games...
  8. There QB is Shane Carden..Saw him in QB camps over the summer and i believe already has a offer from SFA..The kid looked like a D1 prospect but due to the level of competition he plays against many backed off.....
  9. PNG has not done anything to brag about in the last 10 years or even longer..The only thing you Injuns talk about lately is that we can win the Attendance game.,and we have a prettier stadium...Show me what PNG has done lately, not 20 years ago...
  10. Now we proably know why Xavier Frank moved to Dayton for his senior year...Crosby's defense has been sorry as of late, giving up an average of 27ppg last year...Sounds like PNG should have a great night passing against there secondary and have there defense key on Merka and it should be an easy WIN....
  11. Crosby defense with only 1 starter returning on front 7 will have there work cut out..Ennis QB threw for 3200 yards last year and has top receiver back this year..Ennis people are saying this is there year..Could be long night for the Coogs and long ride back from Waco.....
  12. Got this from A&M on the Merka kid... Updates Liucci's Recruiting Update06/15/09 Juniors-to-be who impressed during the camp were Quinn Epperly of Knoxville (TN) Christian Academy, Andy McAlindon of San Mateo (CA) Junipero Serra, Crosby dual-threat Dominic Merka, Austin Westlake's Preston Dewey and Baton Rouge (LA) Catholic's Zack Oliver. Texas assistant Major Applewhite made his way to Crosby this spring to check out Merka in person. At 6-3 and over 190 pounds, Dominic is a big, strong and fast dual-threat signal-caller who could definitely excel in a system that mixes in a lot of zone read. Merka isn't necessarily a scramblerhe's just an outstanding runner who racked up a combined 2,087 yards of offense as a sophomore. Was told he ran a 4.55..Believe this kid would be perfect fit for our offense...
  13. Seems to me a better runner...And not filled out yet? DCTF has him at 6'5" 215 and runs a 4.5..Seems a spread option offense is a better fit than a drop back..Bet Flanigan will ride that horse till it drops since Frank moved to Dayton.......
  14. Houston Camp Recap: The Quarterbacks Dominic Merka By Alan Zepeda Southwest Region Manager Posted Jul 28, 2009 The final camp of the Texas camp season was at the University of Houston and Scout.com was there. Here is the first of our reports on how the players looked at the camp. Top Performers: Quarterbacks Great group of quarterbacks where at the UH camp. This group includes Dexter Foreman (Manvel), Shane Carden (Bellaire Episcopal), Dominic Merka (Crosby) were the big names there. Carden is the lone senior of the group while Merka and Foreman are both top 100 players in the 2011 class. Other quality quarterbacks were there such as junior Jordan Are'(Alief Taylor), senior Winston Pedro (Washington), there was Conner Smith from Travis that looked the part and had a good arm. Carden excelled at the fade route and most of the routes. He is more of a drop back passer but could run the spread also. Very nice touch, he has a solid arm and really is as consistant a performer as you get. Standing around 6-3 and weighing about 190 he has the size that you want at the D1 level also. He has a lot of intangibles also, lots of smarts, good leadership abilities and a nice guy. He put on a nice performance on the day as expected. I missed watching Foreman but he is a real good dual threat quarterback who will hurt you with his arm and if you drop too many back he can do damage running the ball. He is thick for a quarterback but looks the part. Dominic Merka is someone who was born to be a quarterback, he is tall, has a long arm and can throw most of the passes already. He had a few miss fires but not many. He comes from Kevin Flanigan's passing offense out of Crosby so a team like UH would be a good fit, as would any team that passes a lot. Any knock on him at this time is he has not filled out yet but that is not a big concern. Merka can throw all day long and his fade passes are near perfect. Carden and Merka both put on a show on the fades as did Conner Smith from Travis. All three of these guys are D1 guys it just depends on if they fit the specific needs of the offense or not. Carden should have more offers than he has but he plays in the SPC League and a lot of players from there go unnoticed especially outside of Texas. The usual log jam that happens in Texas at quarterback is happening and as soon as one or two players commit you will see the domino effect though not as much as last year. Houston has Terrance Broadway at quarterback already so most of the available quarterbacks skipped the camp. For the coaches the quarterback spot was mainly a chance to look at some 2011 players. Tomorrow running backs and receivers.
  15. How many people move with there kid going into there Sr. year of HS and only moving 10 miles down the road??The only ones i hear about are usually pretty good football players...If you readers think this move has nothing to do with football you are all insane....
