If our board doesn't hire a great coach, and we get a guy in here that goes 5-5 the next three or four years, or who gets beat in the first round of the playoffs every time. I will be on here throwing it back in your face. See what I'm expecting with all the great talent we have, is a State Championship for the next three years. It wasn't exceptable for Price to go one or two rounds seven out of ten years, so the bar is set very high for the next guy.
I'm sorry before I even start but you have absolutely no idea what you are talking about. The Hill has a lot of mediocre athletes that mommy and daddy think are at least small D1 material and the honest truth is that I can think of maybe 5 since 1995 that would be D1 football players possibly. And thats not a hit on the kids at all. Cause they work their butts of and have for years to be better than teams that out-athlete them. But the truth is that they are not all that naturally talented and never really have been. And when you are playing in District you face teams that are good and bad. But when you get to the playoffs... everyone is good. So natural athletes start to play a much bigger role. And when a team like the Hill who is and has been very fundamentally sound and hard working but just mediocre athlete-wise and they get to the playoffs and play a team like we have in the past (Kirbyville, Central, PNG, etc.) who is also fundamentally sounds but has one or two big name players that are naturally great athletes it is the deciding factor. Barbers Hill in the last 10 years has not had the Athlete-pool do go any further than one or two rounds. That has nothing to do with coaching and it will remain that way with the next coach unless he brings some phenomenal athlete to town with him.
What Big time athlete's does PNG have this year? This always seems to be the case where folks talk down the talent at BH while hyping the coaches. There are plenty of programs that are successful in the state with out DIV1 talent. BH has been beaten in the playoff by teams with no big name athlete's. Now don't get me wrong I am aware that BH doesn't have DIV1 talent, but as a whole I think the kids at BH should be able to compete in our area. The coaches are a big part of the developement of the kids, but BH parents spend tons of money during the off season with special camps and coaching to make there kids better. I know some folks are upset due to coach Price leaving and some (BH34) would just love to see the next guy fail ,so he could flap his wings an say "I told you so". Me on the other hand could care less! Alot of folks have been wanting a change at BH and Price made several changes during the last 4-5 years to try and make BH better, Those attempts failed for what ever reason. The important thing here is the Kids at BH and the schools Tradition! Folks live in BH for a reason and its not the new Sonic ;D Bring on the new coach and lets see what the Eagles are capable of! 10 years is a lifetime for a Football Coach to be a t a school! I hope Coach Price goes to another school and wins 5 State Championships! This is not the end of the world for Price or BH both will be just fine!
Hey, Brave and Bhfan, are ya'll smoking crack? Did ya'll actually read my post?   First off Brave, what do you think I was getting at in my post? Me and you agree 100%!! I know what Don had to work with and understand the great job he did with the talent he had. It wasn't good enough, for some though, they thought we should go three or four rounds every year(I wish we could have also) I understood were we stood talent wise with other teams once we got past the first round, and then throw in some bad luck, like losing Chris his senior year etc.etc. So now the next coach coming in here(using Price as a standard) has to go more than two rounds every year or he should be fired also...I mean, isn't that what we just did? I think you missed the sarcasm in my comments. Now Bhfan, I DO NOT want our next coach to fail!!! I said I hope that I get to eat my words on defending Price!!! I love this school and, NEVER, EVER, would want it to do bad, just so I could flap my wings about how wrong others were. I hope and pray that our board hires a great coach, that comes in here and far exceeds anything Price has done...I want to be wrong about Price leaving!!!  I want... no desire, to come back on here and tell you, and all the others, that I was wrong about Price and he should have gone long ago. But, if we get some nothing coach that takes the program backwards, then I'll be on here reminding you and others of what we lost...I hope and pray I don't have to do that. BHfan please don't turn my words around to say something I didn't say. I said in my post, that I am NOT one of those people that hope the program fails because my guy is gone. No matter what, I will always support our team, and the new coach. If he does a great job, I'll stick up for him just like I and others have done for Don. I have NO personal relationship with Don, so this isn't about politics. I just understand the great thing he has done here, and where the program was when he came and how much it improved under his leadership...even moving into 4a.

With that said, if we get a guy that does great with our program and improves it. I'll be on here saying how wrong I was about Price, and it was time for him to go and all of you were correct. If we are kicking tail I'll be happy to eat (you know what) everyday...I'd love that. I guess you can tell I don't have ANY confidence that I'll have to do that. I hope and pray, that I get to eat all of my words...I mean it, I really want to eat them. I'm not one, that just because a coach I like is leaving I want the program to go down...I'm afraid of exactly that.
 3.
Price's departure had nothing to do with W's and L's, it was pure politics. When you have an inner circle on a board who have children who play a sport that they feel is not what it once was then it's the football programs' fault and the AD who runs the department. Plain and simple this is what it is about. This has been brewing for years and the inner circle's attempt backfired on them the first time. They took the longer, slower approach this time trying to shield themselves from the ire of the community, but we all know how and why this happened. The reason it had to be now instead of at the end of the existing contract, however long that would be is because of the larger classes coming through the system would have made us more competitive and thus harder for the powers that be to make a change. That's it in a nutshell! Don't let anyone tell you any different.
Trucked, you and Bigdaddy know whats going on don't you? You are 100% on target. I don't think most fans have a clue. Great post!! A dagger, to the heart of the matter.
 4.

I had not heard this. I hate to see this happen. I am realistic about BH. I see what we have to work with and I believe Price gets alot out of the talent we've had through the years. The program is respected by people all around the region because of what he stands for and allows and does not allow in his program. I know we judge people by wins and losses, that is the nature of the beast. The other things do matter as much in the long run. With all of that, I hope the best for Coach and the Eagles. I know he deserves better also.
I agree, and on serious note, I want thank Don Price for his service and dedication.  Say what you want about football, an AD oversees MUCH more than that...and he was darn successful with the athletic program at BH.  When you come to BH for a sporting event, whether its a track meet, tournament, etc..it runs like CLOCKWORK.  This is not by accident, but by hard work and leadership, and pride in the service.
I agree with Hillboy and Fido!  I think Price did a great job of bringing back the winning tradition to the Hill. Was he perfect? No! But who is? He did instill some great values in the kids and taught them about more than just football. I believe Price and his coaching staff are some of the hardest working coaches around. They have nothing to be ashamed about. Thanks coach for all your hard work and dedication to the program!!!!!  There are those of us who will miss you dearly. Now, it's up to our school board to hire the best coach out there, if they'll even coach here. If they go out and hire another Hope or Macgallion ( or however you spell his name) I'm going to lose my mind. My hope is we find a great coach that comes in here and kicks butt!!!  We'll see.
 5.

Great job Indians!  Nice Large (and loud)  crowd tonight at Stallworth.  11-0 and getting ready for the next round.  Good luck against the Brenham Cubbies!
Standing room only on the PNG side, i thought bh would have had more fans seeing as it was close to them
If we had been 10-0 there would have been more folks there. I don't think some of our "fair weather" fans thought we had a chance, so they did something else. The first home game of the year, against Lumberton, we had more fans in our stadium than I've ever seen, there wasn't a space open. After we lost to Lumberton, the crowds got smaller. I wasn't surprised with the turn out Friday night.
 6. Congrats!! PNG!!! Ya'll played a great game! Your offensive line does a great job. Pretty much controlled the line of scrimmage all night. Good luck with the remainder of your season!!! Well I wouldn't call it a good year from a win loss perspective. We lost most games because of mistakes, and that was very disappointing. From an improvement perspective it was much easier to watch this year. The kids played hard and never gave up in any game, so be proud of that. Ya'll played as a team this year and it was noticeable. We could tell that ya'll cared about each other and cared about doing your best. So thanks for working hard and giving 100% all year long!!! Love ya Eagles!!

The Barbers Hill football boss said it’s the first time he’s ever coached a playoff game that’s a rematch of an earlier meeting from the same season. Barbers Hill and PN-G, the No. 5-ranked Class 4A team in the state, will play one of five UIL bidistrict playoff games involving area teams Friday at 7:30 p.m. at Stallworth Stadium in Baytown. • Baytown Lee will play Pasadena Memorial Friday at 7 p.m. at Galena Park ISD Stadium. • Goose Creek Memorial lost a flip, so its playoff game against Beaumont Central will be on the Jaguars’ homefield at Zaharias Stadium in Beaumont Friday at 7:30 p.m. • Crosby will take on Nederland Saturday at 2 p.m. at Conroe’s Woodforest Stadium. • Dayton will play Vidor Saturday at 7:30 p.m. at Sam Houston State’s Bowers Stadium in Huntsville. Additionally, playoff qualifiers Anahuac and Buna will meet in Anahuac Thursday to play the final District 23-2A game at 6:30 p.m. The game, which has no bearing on playoff seeding, was postponed, because 23-2A has a first-round playoff bye and the two teams did not want a week’s layoff immediately before the playoffs. PN-G, playing its first game under new coach Brandon Faircloth, won its season opener against Barbers Hill 21-20 on Aug. 28. Of course, Price’s Eagles coughed up seven turnovers in their first game with Matthew Viverette at quarterback and a late extra-point miss is all that stopped a fierce fourth-quarter rally short of forcing overtime. Since then, PN-G went on to finish the regular season 10-0, including an incredible 25-22 overtime win over Beaumont Central in last week’s District 20-4A championship game. The Indians blocked an extra point in the game’s waning moments and ran it back to tie game 22-22 and force overtime. The won in double overtime with a field goal. “Hopefully, this will be a good game,” Price said, his team 5-5 for the season and a fourth-place finisher in District 19-4A. “We’re going to have to play well, but we’re looking forward to the game.” This is Price’s ninth playoff team in the past 11 seasons at BH. Both teams have improved markedly since the season opener, but the Eagles were hit hard throughout the year by injuries. “If we’d have won the first game, would we be 10-0 right now?” Price said, repeating an interviewer’s question. “You never know. We’ve been snakebit a couple of times with turnovers in important games. “But the kids aren’t trying to turn it over. We try to be mistake-free.” Price is hopeful the Eagles might get back some injured players for this game. He expects senior receiver Caleb Stork to return after breaking his collarbone early in the season. Running back Andrew McMillan has been practicing after being out with an injured ankle. “We have not had the same starting 22 in any ballgame,” he said. “It’s been kind of an unusual kind of year.”
Is this the same Dave Rogers who wrote for the Port-Arthur newspaper?   If it is then I wouldn't trust what he writes in regards to the comments made by the individuals he is interviewing.  He always mis-quoted people here in the Golden Triangle. After reading this thru I don't sense anything wrong with the comments.  What do you want said?   I hope it is going to be a good game, I also hope it is a well played game.   Seems your coach is a classy guy.   Seems to have respect of people at PNG.   Allowing them to wear their home jersey's and be the home team.   From what I hear it was part of the deal to get the game at Stallworth in Baytown.  After googling the info, looks like the stadium is less than 12 miles from your HS.  Might as well be a home game for BH. If BH had turf you could have flipped home and home.  Why doesn't BH have turf?  Of all the schools in this area, one would think BH would have been the 1st to get it. Good luck to both teams.
It's not just this article but most. I think he spends too much time being politically correct than backing his team. I wouldn't want to go into a game that my coach thinks that we might win! Weather it is a lost hope to win the game you shouldn't project that to your fans or players. Him saying "Hopefully this will be a good game" lacks confidence to me, but that is only one perspective and maybe I read to far into things ;D I'm sure the reporter can miss qoute, but he also interviews all of the coaches and I don't see that coming from everywhere. Price is a good guy and his integrity or class has never been in question with me. I've never been a fan of politics I would assume have a Barbay, Hooks or Stewart who tells it like it is ;D And Why BH don't have turf , is according to what i've heard can't get approval from the schooll. Price has requested it several times that i have been told, but it got shot down. One big reason was the damage the BH due to Hurricans sucked up alot of money. I think it's just a matter of time once the budget allows it.
BHFAN, I disagree with you about what Price said. I love it when the coach plays down the game. I know Coach Sharp, when asked what he thought about that weeks game from one of the Baytown Sun reporters, he'd say something like; Well,(what ever team) is a lot better than we are, they're bigger and faster and we'll be lucky to get out of this game alive. Now what he was telling his players behind closed doors was much different and his kids were ready to play.  Price just doesn't do good interviews, but I like it when he doesn't over sell the game.  I guess I'm just old school...maybe its because I'm a hundred and fifty.
 8.
Those that say BH don't have the Athletes are just plan wrong! All I read after we play teams is how good our kids are and play from the fans of other teams. Price didn't lose this game and isn't responsible for most of the games IMHO, but there have definetly been games where the lack of game planning, adjustments and play calling has killed a BH season. Make no mistake Price didn't make BH , BH made Price! I have no idea what he even did before BH, does anyone know? his entire record or at leat 95% of it is at BH. Mind you that BH played in one of the weakest 3A districts in the state while having large numbers of kids that are very passionate about being a BH football player! Price defenitly came in and with the help of a very talented class of kids the BH tradition came back to the hill does this give a coach a retirement pass? No! 10 years later it's time for a change. the last 3-4 years there have been tons of adjustments to the staff, but in the end the Offense/Defense looks the same now as it did 10 years ago. Difference is we are in 4A now and can't mow over teams with just pure numbers and determination. Is BH capable of finding a coach and not hiring a brother in law is my only fear! If that would be the case I would rather have Price, but if BH would go out like PNG did for a state wide hunt of a successfull 3A, 4A or 5A assistant IM IN. BH has the talent , facilities and community support that deserve the best IMO! Or we can all hold hands and praise everyone while pretending that everything is ok.
BHFAN, I agree and disagree with some of your post...surprise, surprise.  We have had some talented kids, but very few if any have been D1 prospects.  Even the 99 class as good as it was didn't have any super talent.  There's a difference in better than average talent and D1 type talent like we saw with Cody Greene and Dugat from Dayton.  We just don't(at this point) have that type of talent.  When we get in the playoffs it cathes up to us, and then you go through some bad luck like losing Chris Daniels his senior year, and we have an even more disadvantage.  If Chris doesn't get hurt that year, we don't lose to KV, and probably go several rounds. Pat filled in real well, but he was not the running thret that Chris was.  In a nut shell, our talent, at times, has been above average but not college type talent...and then we've had some just plain ole bad luck...its football.  Also, we stay 3a in 06 when the Pattons and those guy's were seniors, we would have done well in the playoffs...once again some bad luck...that's football. Do I think Price does everything right...no way...but who does? I believe that when the kids make mistakes like, fumbles, interceptions, jumping off sides, running into the punter, etc. etc...they should have to pay a severe price come Monday, that's how you train them not to make mistakes.  So in that, I wish Price did a little better job...but I'm not there dealing with these kids everyday to be able to understand all of his reasoning. Also we have changed O/C and D/C a couple of times.  Our defense is totally different than it was two years ago...I'm not sure for the better.  So there has been some change.  Let me remind you also that, 3 other coaches played in basically the same sorry 3a district that Price did, and they didn't come close to what price has accomplished...also we have become pretty competitive in 4a in a short time, many teams take years to get back on track when they jump classifications. I agree with you, I don't trust that we'll hire a coach any better than what we have, our track record isn't very good.  These are just my opinions also, I just believe our program is in a much better situation than some people think.
 9.
IMO, I think the coaching needs to be taken to the next level in 4-A football. You can't run the same offense that you did in 3-A ball just because you won games. I can see that when BH is ahead at halftime, the opposing team usually makes great adjustments against us and we still play the same game. We don't have the biggest play selection and when we make good yardage running the ball down the field, we stop doing that and start passing Why? Make them stop us! You don't see too many head coaches in BIG school football being the A.D./ Head Coach . Usually there is an A.D. and a head coach so that you don't keep the same fingers in the pot and the A.D. can support the other sports playing at the same time. JMO
This makes NO sense!!!  We run the spread offense, just like many other high school and college teams.
 10.

So guys .. are we going to the playoffs or not ... I think after this year price needs to hang the coat up
I don't understand you so called Barbers Hill fans! All y'all do is blame Price. answer me this: Have you ever had a coach with a better winning record? How many times has he taken you to the playoffs? Is he still getting the job done? I hate to say it BH parents and fans, but y'all are out matched every year.  If you took the whole district position by position, and matched them up athletically...........you might win one o line position! You are out muscled, out sized, and you don't have speed...this is every year....so how do you win??? TALENT and talent is COACHED.....If anything you should be thanking Price for winning so much despite these odds....maybe a raise or hug or kiss or something!!!!!........Maybe a little appreciation!!!!........that might work!!!!!
I agree hitman!!!  We've got a one year varsity QB,(hence the 4 interceptions) we've got how many Soph. starting?  One of our best defensive players out, two great receivers out, our starting (soph.) runningback out, although Stubbs did a good job.  Every game we've lost (except GCM) we've lost because of inexperienced mistakes, and I'll say GCM game could fall in that category also.  Matt has done a great job and given a 110% effort, but the inexperience shows it's ugly head from time to time.  We used to get by with a one year QB in 3a, but in 4a the talent is bigger, better and faster.  Go ahead and get rid of Price this year and get ready to sacrifice the next couple of years...usually first year coaches, statistically ,don't win when they take over a new program...and our track record hasn't been to good when it come to hiring top notch coaching.
 11. Being from the Hill, I wish all of this were true, but I just don't see it. If those kids were that good, we'd put them on the varsity right now even if we had to forfit all of our soph games. BH is so beat up right now, Price would use anyone he could to get the job done. To predict State a year in advance is a little silly. Did I say a little silly...I meant down right stupid!!! Who ever is writing this stuff can't be from the Hill.
 13. UIL, what a joke! Have they ever done anything that makes sense? I don't know how true all of this is, but nothing would shock me!! I just expect that every thing they do to be the stupid...and I'm never disappointed. The UIL, brought to you by the same people that want the Government to run every aspects of our lives...great choice.
 14. Great job Dayton, playing through some major QB changes, the youngster looked very good. Congrats on the win and the rest of the season. I thought our kids had a good first half, and then the second held went down hill. Really after #20 got hurt, our offense really took a noise dive. The backup just wasn't blocking at all, at least Andrew will throw his body around and hit people. Receivers did a great job. The defense did well at times, but laying off Daytons receivers so far was costing us 7 to 10 yards a catch. The D did step up several times though. Having six starters out hurt, is almost a death sentence for us, we just do not have the depth...but that's just an excuse, its all a part of football. At least the kids played hard until the end, I can handle a loss like this one...that junk last week...well enough said about that one. Time to get ready for the coogs...lets put it on them Eagles!
 15. A much better post bhbandsen, I prayed your English wasn't as bad as it seemed. I hope ya'll come to play LOUD and OfTEN tonight, but not when we are on offense...Please!
 16. Your graduating this year? Your parents might want to think about running you back through, your school'n didn't take the first time around.
 17. Good luck to Ploch in his recovery! Hate to see these kids get hurt like that! I tell ya, a concussion is not something to mess around with. When I was in school I got three concussions in one week and, and, and, did any of ya'll watch the moon landing last night? It was real neat, mom let me watch it right after Hee Haw was over. Anyway good luck in the rest of your season, Corn Huskers.
 18. I was thinking that was 1990, but your probably correct. I'm almost positive it was the first round though.
 19. Are you telling me BH didn't start winning until the late 80's and 90's? BH went to the playoffs in the early 80's, like 81 & 82, then didn't go back until 87 and 88, I don't think they went in 89(could be wrong about that, maybe that was coach Skidmores first year) They made it to playoffs two times in the early 90's and then didn't go back until 99. What I'm saying is we weren't as dominate in the 80's and 90's as we were in the 60's and 70's. From 82 until 87, you wouldn't believe the ridicule the players took. I'm not trying to offend anyone, I just remember from about 82 until 99 (with the exception of a couple of year) Bh was not considered a winning team(I'm only talking about football). When Kenny Robins was a Sr. and the when Ken Skidmore was a Sr. were the only two years BH was really considered strong from 82 till 99.
 20. I've always thought Tarkington has some really good looking players(I'm not talking about their faces). This is just my opinion; but winning is not easy, and loosing can become a tradition, like winning can. The losing mind set gets entrenched into the players, coaches and community, everyone just expects to lose. When the game is tight, and your used to loosing, its easier to stay within your comfort zone, and not put out the extra effort because you'll just be disappointed. I have no idea what your situation is over there, this all speculation on my part. Also, when the school and community grow custom to loosing, then the school board may not search for the best coach, also it maybe harder to get winning coaches to apply for the job(don't know anything about your coaches, they maybe great). I know over here at the Hill, our school was fortunate in its early years, by hiring some young coaches that were hungry, and winning was very important to them. Two of them had a huge impact on our school, one was Loyd Kelly and the other was Gene Sharp, and I know there was another one or two way back in the 30's and 40's, that shaped our program. BH, had lost its winning ways for most of the 80's and 90's, so it happens to everyone from time to time. Ya'll just need the right coach and the right group of kids to turn it all around. You need a coach that dares the kids to lose, and what I mean is, its much harder to go through the punishment i.e. hard practices, than it is to put forth the effort to win. Look at Lumberton, hadn't won anything till two year ago, and now their expectations are high and they plan to win every week. Hopefully that will happen to ya'll someday, and its a great ride when it happens. Not sure any of that helps, just my observation.
 21. Evidently, the RESIDENTS just do not speak the English very well! Nice job Ace! Nueva Barberos lema de la escuela Hill. That's right! Estamos lentos y blanco! Mabea wee dant rit i't tou goude, bot wee spak i't rill goude.
 22. Okay, Friday night is history and its time to get behind our Eagles again. I hope they understand that most of us on here were just trying to wake them up, with our harsh comments. I think most us agree they are better than what we saw Friday night. It wasn't the fact that we lost the game, but how they played the game...far to many mental mistakes this late in the season. Eagles, we'll all be there Friday night giving ya'll 100% of our support, so come out and play with the same fire you had early in the season. We know this will be a tough game, so all you can do is play, smart, aggressive football, and then let the chips fall were they may. Go Eagles! Has anybody heard anything about Hopper?
 23. I feel much better now...I just recieved word, that our coaches and players threw the game on purpose, so that Crosby and Dayton would get over confident...this was all planned before the season began...thank goodness...we were worried for no reason. Sorry Ranger, I take back my crow eating, because we let ya'll win...hehehe
 24. This junk gets sooo old! First off I want to say; I don't think Price is the greatest Coach to ever walk the earth...there are many things I really wish he would change...but he's no where near a sorry coach...to act like he doesn't have any coaching skills is being a little ridiculous...let's look at some history leading up to Price. About 1982 or 83, Coach Hope comes to BH, he was here for about 7 or 8 seasons. Never won a district championship and only made it to the playoffs 2 years out of his 7 or 8 years here, and lost in the first round...decent talent, but nothing great. Skidmore came around 1989 or 90, never won a district championship, and only went to the playoffs 2 times, lost in the first round...his first year here the team had great talent and the other playoff year the talent was good, but not great. McGallion came about 1995 or 96, never won a district championship and never went to the playoffs...had some of the better talent to come through BH, during two of his years here. Price takes over in 1998 and has been here 10 years, won at least 4 district titles(one of those in 4a) and has been in the playoffs 7 times...has been into the 3 round, 1 time, and into the second round about 3 times...really good talent in 2 of those years, and decent talent in 3 of those years, and really mediocre talent in 2 of those years. It doesn't matter if he was in a so called "sorry district" Because the other coaches(for the most part) were in the same districts, and never accomplished even a 1/4 of what Price has accomplished. Friday, we just played a sorry game. All are responsible, coaches and players. Another thing, we are not the same team that started the season...in some respects were a little better...but we've lost several key players and a couple of others are playing hurt...and we just don't have enough talented personel to fill those spots...And GCM just came out and kicked our tails, it happens.
