  1. Just wanted to say congrats to Dayton on a great season. You guys never quit and played hard, I was very impressed with your team. #8 is one of the greatest players I have ever seen. Glad Nebraska is getting a great QB, he is needed there and will do a tremendous job. Dayton has great fan support also, it was an awsome game and one of the loudest that I have been to at the high school level. I think it would have been a closer game if Dayton had a little more depth, just got gassed. Good luck next season and there was no shame in this season.
  2. Those are clips from last year, I believe he has been way more impressive this year. Wish someone could dig some video up from this year.
  3. I couldn't tell you if we would be or not, but I don't know if we would be playing if we didn't have the o-line and the core group of recievers we have either. Not offended at all, TR is great, so is Young but they both have had help to be as good as they are. I'll post some more cliche's later.
  4. This has got to be the most ridiculous thread that I have ever read in my entire life. The post's about SS not being here without TR and Young? Anybody ever think about that huge o-line that gives TR all day to throw it or opens those holes for Young to run through? What about some of the huge plays that the recievers have made after the catch? Fact is that SS is a team and plays as a team, each player plays a huge role in making this team click. I don't know if SS will make it back to state next year, but we do have the o-line returning, McQueen is returning and the JR. QB we have is not to shabby, he is not TR but he is big, fast and can throw the ball really well. The JR class is strong, especially their defense. I see SS having a totally different D next year. I just hate to hear people say 1 person got them there, that is simply not true. 11 play on each side of the ball. That goes for both teams. What gets them there is the program that the coach has installed and the character and heart that he instills in them. SS plays very disciplined football, close to perfect on offense and the defense has been making better strides. This is just the 3rd year under Owens and he has completely turned this program around, you can see it in the lower levels also. I'm sure Dayton feels the same way, their coach came in in '96 and has put productive teams on the field year in year out, that is called a good program. You have star players come and go all the time. Everyone always wonders how you are going to replace them and usually someone else emerges and all of the sudden he is the greatest player ever. It's the training and the teaching that a great coach puts them through that shapes them into what they become.
  5. Actually the AP is made up from sports writers from all across the state of Texas. Every area of Texas has a vote on this. Congrats to your WR, that's quite a honor.
  6. Just a couple say that on there and most of them aren't from SS, they are surrounding towns. SS respects Dayton, ya'll must be very good to have made it to this point.
  7. No man, #4 is one of Dayton's back-up D-Lineman that gets after the QB. From the sounds of it...they'll be plenty of sub 4.5's on the field Saturday. Anyone actually have any info on 40 times from the home team? Got Cody and AJ because they're all over the prep sites. 2,10,15 all have wheels and well does anyone run faster than 6? 35 aint slow by any means either...not a burner but man that kid is a football player...football speed is what he's got. 5 looks like he's got sub 4.6 wheels along with 20. For SS #7 Rollison runs a low 4.6, #1 McQueen, #4 Young and #5 Hall all run in the 4.4's. They said they clocked #4 at a 4.39, but I don't know if I believe it or not unless it was done electronically.
  8. SS usually on has the ball for an average of 15 min a game, scoring drive lasts around 2 min, thus the defense is on the field most of the time. SS doesn't know how to make a time comsuming drive, they just score quick. Just food for thought.
  9. Yes you are right flipper, we have been beat and are beatable. I believe all teams are beatable, it comes down to matchups and coaching strategy. Yes we are on cloud 9, this is our 1st trip to the big dance. Our 2 losses came to very tough teams, Longview beat us 32-13. The game was closer than the score showed. SS shot theirselves in the foot several times inside of the 20 with penalties. It would be tough to beat Longview if you played perfect, they have a dominating defense. We actually had more yards than they did in the game, put up about 450 yds. That was a very tough loss to swallow. The next week we had Texas High, who we were picked to beat. Our heads were not right, we came in thinking that we were going to walk all over them and they just handed it to us, they put up 35 within 4 minutes. After those back to back losses SS turned into a different team playing very disciplined and with much determination. I really look for this to be a very close game, SS has pretty much blown everyone out in the playoffs with the exception of Rockwall-Heath. I do not think this is going to be a blow out win for either team. I think it goes to the wire.
  10. Looking forward to the game. I think it is going to be a great one, obviously I do not know much about Dayton, and I believe Dayton doesn't know much about SS. I do know that ya'll have a very talented QB, as I am also a little bit of a Nebraska fan. From what I see so far, these 2 teams are very much a like. Both run the spread, both have great QB's and recievers, both defenses can be a little suspect at times. SS also has a very good running game, have not heard if Dayton has one or not. A little about our players. #7(Sr.) QB Tyrik Rollison is one of the most highly recruited QB's in the nation, he has offers from everywhere. #4(Sr.) RB Ryan Young is also a D1 recruit and I believe he will be going to Air Force to play, but has had a few other offers from D1 schools. #2(Sr.) WR Jace Jackson has every school in the recieving department, best hands I have ever seen and is hard to bring down. He lacks a little speed but has enough to get the job done. I have not heard if he is being recruited by a D1 school, but he has been getting a lot of attention. #1 (Jr.) WR Shane McQueen has blazing speed, great hands and is one of those that seems like he has grease all over him, just slips out of defenders hands. He is very close to having a 1000 yd season. He is also returns kickoffs. Started as a sophmore #5 (Sr.) WR Rashad Hall. Great hands, great moves and speed. Was the ESPN MVP against WF Rider. One of his TD's in that game made the top 10 plays on ESPN sports center. The entire O-Line is huge and very tough to get around, they give Rollison a ton of time to pick defenses apart and does a great job of opening holes for the run. They are all Jr.s except for 1 Sr. They all started as Sophmores and we will be glad to have them back next year. #3 (Jr.)FS Bryant "Day Day" Jackson. Already being recruited by Texas as a Jr. Closes in on plays quickly, leads the team in Int. and makes big hits. Started as a Sophmore. #19 (Sr.) FS Johnny McSheffrey is a big time hitter. Has lots of speed and is behind Jackson in INT's. I will be surprised if he dosen't go to a D1 school, he will definately be offered a scholarship by a DII school. #6 (Sr.) CB Anthony Mills. Very solid CB, has made key INT's to lock in some wins this year and is also a big hitter. #20 (Sr.) CB Darryl Franklin. 3 year starter. Leads the team in broken up passes. Pretty much a lock down corner that makes you pay if you catch the ball. Has the speed to stay with just about anyone. Very good chance of going DI. #80 (Sr.) DE Colton Nash. 6'7" 250 lbs. He is just a monster. DI recruit, most likely going to Baylor. He gets in the backfield, has a huge wingspan and bats a lot of passes. He is also the punter. #82 (Jr.) DE Kendrick Dial. 6'5" 240lbs. He's pretty much just like Nash only 2 inches shorter. #98 (Sr.) DT Jamison Dial. I believe he is about 6'4". Penatrates the line well. #54 (Jr.) LB Tyler Higanbothem. Leads the team in tackles, hits hard and reads plays well. Very football smart. The D-line rotates in and out quite a bit to stay fresh. They had problems stopping the run earlier in the year, but has developed into a very stout defense over the past 6 to 7 games. The make great half time adjustments and usually play a much better 2nd half. Below is a link to our HS website, it has a break down of all games played. [Hidden Content] Most East Texas teams post on www.smoaky.com It is a fantastic site with tons of information. Look forward to the game, hope both teams have an injury free game and that all travel is safe. Look forward to a week of chest bowing also. It is always fun to learn more about teams that we have not faced.
