The stadium was packed. I remember playing Central Michigan and they brought with them lots of fans. Check you archive, we also won the Las Vegas bowl. PACKED STADIUM....I was there.
sure it was.... ::) so, whats the problem now?..big city....they have "the market" as you love to say...2 million people ..the big time Mountain West ...they draw the same as LU..
We may disagree, but you don't have to call me a liar. The stadium was packed. The Thomas and Mack was packed. I don't know what happened between then and now. Maybe chronic losing, maybe the economy since Vegas is the worse hit city inj all the USA, maybe entertainment competition, I don't know why. However they are trying to fix the problem with a on campus stadium. Not finding a weaker conference to hide away the way Lamar did by rejoining the SLC.

If Lamar was a FBS program, I could understand expanding the staduim to 30k (like Texas State did). However Lamar is a startup FCS program. Once they start acing winning seasons and gain support, I would understand expanding the staduim. There is nothing worse as a fan than going to a game and seeing the fans half full (Rice is an example).
I dunno Wreckem2011.  I know that utsa went from having nothing to building something in just 3-4 years from scratch.  I know they are in San Antonio and don't have to compete with other sports teams with the exception of their NBA team.  They have a dynamite athletic director, hired a "name coach", did a great marketing job to the businesses in San Antonio, and in a short period of time (two years of competition), the roadrunners are a known commodity, headed for CUSA.  Having the Alamodome for a stadium certainly helps.  Personally, I detest utsa for being so successful (so far).  What did they win, 2-3 games last year, and they really haven't really played anyone this year to get that 4-0 record.  that will all change over the course of the season.  Can't see them being any better than 4-8. Point is, Lamar could have done the same thing.  They could easily get the donations to enlarge PU Stadium.  Heck, just adding seats to the North end zone bowl would be nice and an easy thing to do.
UTSA didn't have to expand a stadium. HUGE difference. Also they have a metro pop of 2 million. They were prime for FBS from the word go!
2 million is not the reason for UTSA picking the right coach and good recruits and smart scheduling. GSU is in an area of 6 million yet they have a poor record and attendance less than Lamar.
Then why is UNT leaving?  lol Lamar football is not good and won't be good for a while under a passive Woodard, therefore Lamar needs to consider what is best for MBB...AKA keeping Pat Knight here as long as possible. SBC football....low ranking MWC football....low ranking SBC MBB....low ranking  19th of 30 conferences MWC MBB...High ranking  8th Lamar in the MWC would play 3-4 games on national tv every season. SLC and SBC, NONE. Pat Knight would stay more than 10 years at Lamar in the MWC. In the SBC, maybe 5. SLC, he is gone in 3 years.
Pure speculation on what Pat Knight would do if Lamar was in the MWC or how much Lamar would be on tv.  Also, MWC is ranked 8th now, maybe not in 5 years. Also, football is driving expansion.  Basketball would be a lot better in the MWC, but Lamar has very little control over that and Lamar has to think how football will be affected if they change conferences. If Lamar does end up in the MWC, it'll be after all the "name" schools leave and it'll be a shell of it's former self.  I still say Lamar will end up in the Sun Belt within 5 years.
Cola, do some research. The 3 worst MBB, TCU, BSU, and AFA, are leaving, Not a recipe for a conference getting worst in MBB. Cola you are kookoo if you think ESPN is not going to put on national tv a top 25 UNLV vs a Pat Knight team. And a top 25 UNM vs Pat Knight late night western game. Yes, football is driving realignment. However MWC football is as bad as SBC. Like Lamar, MWC will be thinking of its prize sport until football catches up....if it ever catches up. Again, can you imagine Lamar vs UNLV in that new on campus stadium walking distant from LV BLVD. And it would be a winnable game. I can see lots of LU fans making the trip on a $129 Southwest airline special. Unless Lamar to UL-Monroe is more attractive.

Call these seats the 'dirty bird section' for loud screaming fans....students. This could be done at minimum cost, Lamar has no vision.
Lamar is barely able to afford the $29 million they spent on renovating the stadium and building the athletic complex.  Private donations had to pay for at least quarter of that.  No way would they have been able to expand to 41k.  Sure, in the long run in may cost less, but that doesn't matter one bit if it's unaffordable now. And why would Lamar be averaging 22K now?  There was less than 14K at the Langston game.  Did 9K stay away because there were only 3K empty seats available and they didn't want to fight over them?
Yet everyone else can do. ULL is doing it with huge budget cuts in a down economy in a poor state. There are do-ers and excuse makers. There is plenty of reasons why Lamar attendance would be much higher in a 25k stadium. Here is just one.\ A 16k stadium with 15k show up. That makes it very hard to impossible for a family or group to get seats together. I could call Lamar right now requesting 6 tickets together. NOPE. I want to sit with my buddies or don't go.

 15.
Funny that you mention Lamar playing the La Tech's of the world back in the day like LT was a powerhouse D1 then, now or ever! LT was in the Southland. They kept there program and are now LOOOOSING money in FBS. Hawaii this year, OSU next. What's LTs attendence? UTSA has a reason to be in FBS now...Huge student base, large metro area, large stadium already, and only game in town! Tell me the attraction to an LU football game for 35K a week? And don't say Sunbelt schools, cause after a few years when the new wears off that drops back to the old faithful 15K.
Nevada destroyed Hawaii 69-24. Hawaii destroyed Lamar 54-2. La Tech destroyed BIG 10 Illinois in Illinois. La Tech is losing money for a great reputation. Kinda like advertising. I wonder who is more well known, Tech or Lamar even with Lamar being in a much bigger metro, Lamar the bigger school in a wealthy Texas. ULL had +30k for it's Okie st game, Monroe had +30k for its Baylor game, Texas st had +30k for its Texas Tech game. Let me guess your responds...We can never do that. We aren't as mighty and gifted as Texas st, Monroe, or ULL. We can never be more than SFA and SHSU.
Do you remember how you and many here dismissed me when I first suggested Lamar could go to the WAC?  It came very close to happening. 24.
Purely antecdotal, but once again based on my experience at Tech: Of the current big 12 schools, Texas and Oklahoma would be most likely top out the stadium. At least that was the case in Lubbock. Texas for sure, and Oklahoma a really good chance. None of the other schools travel all that well. Baylor and TCU would probably pull some fans, but neither travel well enough to top off a half or even 3/4 full stadium at 30K, much less 40 or 50. The Kansas schools, Iowa State, and OK State don't travel that well even when it is a conference foe. Forget West Virginia, way too far away. Throw Texas A&M and LSU from the SEC in with Texas and Oklahoma and forget the rest of the Big 12 and you might pull it off. Might get severely abused on the field, but you would make a bunch of money whether you played them at home or at their place.
Did you see the crowd at Baylor vs Monroe game?  Did you notice the huge number of Baylor fans. I am sure a respectable number of Baylor fans in Waco and Houston would travel to Beaumont to see a Baylor /Lamar game.
