1.
You guys act like a big crowd is automatically an advantage for PNG.  Seriously, when was the last time any PNG players played in such a big game in front of a (supposedly) huge crowd like you are talking about?  The answer is never, and all your talking only increases the pressure on your kids.  Brenham on the other hand is in these type of games every year, and will not be fazed.  So, in addition to being the more talented, faster, and bigger team, Brenham has the intangible advantage over PNG.  I say look for lots of jitters and lots of both mental and physical errors by PNG in this one.  And, once it gets rolling it will get out of hand!  Brenham by 20 or more in this one.  But, on the positive side, you PNG fans can show up the following week and watch Friendswood dismantle Huntsville!
I grew up in the Golden Triangle, but was fortunate to spend 20 years living in the great city of Friendswood.  I also fortunate that I never met someone with such hate in his heart as Friendswood Fan.  You really show how ignorant you are when you say that PNG kids haven't played before large crowds.  The top 8 High School attendance records at the Dome are held by PNG.  In 1999 when we played Stephenville for the State Championship we had over 40,000 in attendance.  In 1976 we set a National attendance record when we played Plano in Cowboy stadium for the State Championship and had over 48,000 in attendance.  We had to drive over 300 miles and Plano only had to drive 20 miles, yet we filled half of the stadium with an estimated crowd of 30,000.  During the 20 years that I lived in Friendswood they didn't have much success, were you as obnoxious then as you are now?
2. I though this was a post on the Pros and Cons of hiring Coach Long. Not an opportunity by some to insult and talk in a condescending manor to folks who want to discuss the topic. I for one would like for the school board to put out a search far and wide for the new coach. After the search is completed, if Coach Long is the best fit, then, I will be pleased. Coach Long had a pass/run ratio of 40/60 when he was the OC. He was restrained by Burnett from opening up the offense further. He knows that he can't win using a power running game only. He Bleeds Purple and has a good understanding of the situation at PNG. He's great with the players. Folks who haven’t seen the decline of PNG Football due to the hardheadedness and lack of offensive imagination of Burnett, can’t understand the frustration that we have gone through the last few years. I don’t think you have to be a coach, to see that your team has the most predictive offense in the District year after year.
3. In response to Ball Watcher--You haven't watched our program deteriorate the last several years. If you take the Dustin Long years out of the picture, Burnett was barely over 500% in his winning percentage. His offense has been void of any imagination or passing attack and has lost the confidence of the fans, not the spoiled parents as you have said. I don't comment on other teams that I don't know anything about and I would suggest that you do the same. The talent has been there to win, Burnett's offensive philosophy has been stuck in the past and he hasn't spread the field to allow the kids to be successful. The frustration of the fans has been building for several years now and its time for a change.
4. It is true that outsiders don't understand the frustrations that the PNG faithful have with Burnett. During the last 10 years I've seen a coach who has done an outstanding job in some areas such as conditioning his teams, and I know he wants the best for PNG. However, I have seen a decline in fan interest and a decline in the teams focus over the last 10 years. Our offense has been very predictable and oriented towards the run. The problem with this is that year after year I've seen us run on and win against the LCMs of the district, only to be stopped by the Nederlands and the better teams of the district, because they put 8 to 9 defenders within 5 yards of the line of scrimmage, stopping the run and daring us to pass. Our passing game has been pathetic at best, at no fault to the players. We had the best passing quarterback in the district this year. I can count on one hand the number of passes that go to a tightend or a running back for the entire season. When they do throw to a tight end, it usually results in a big gain. I've come to the conclusion that The coaching staff doesn't have the knowledge or experience to develop a wide open offense. I've also come to believe that we need to bring in a coach who has a good understanding of the passing game and has a history of developing quarterbacks so we can spread the field with more than 2 receivers creating problems for the defense. Texas and Texas Tech have proven that you can open up the run with the pass. I know decisions are difficult to make when it concerns good people. However, I feel a change is needed at PNG.
