Now is the time to be looking and working on the kick no doubt. Wins are good right now, but not critical. Later on it's do or die.

In the playoffs, that don't always work, especially if the other team knows that's what your going to do. Your going to come up short on the score board.

A good kicking game becomes more important the deeper in the playoffs you go. If you don't have one, you can definetly find yourself going home early.

He started last week sometime before Kirbyville. The defense looked like it last night. Aggressive, crossing the line of scrimmage, still need to work on pursuit.

Newton still has a ways to go to be good, but they took major strides Friday night. If the 9 that sat out come back with an attitude to win, this team can be dangerous. Newton by 3.

The defense has been helped by the addition of Johnny Westbrook as a coach. Totally different look and attack. Glad to see it. This was done with 9 sitting out for the night. Maybe the play can get even better now. Look out Silsbee, we may be on the move in the right direction.

The Lumberton-Silsbee game as far as numbers is concerned is probably the most even since L-Town is the smallest 4a in our district. I think one thing people may be overlooking is the smaller numbers to search, your chance of finding those talented eleven don't just go by percentage, it exponentiates downward. Conversely the larger the number to search the greater chance of finding them. You may can find eleven to field with talent, but there seems to be an assumption that the players behind those eleven will automatically fall off in talent. The larger the number to search may find an equaling of talent over a greater number to choose from. Barbay also said something interesting about the defense. He has always said he runs the offense and "let's them over there" run the defense. He said he was finding out why the kids were not tackling and out of position. Hope he gets his answer and corrects it.

It could be because of some of the coaches in my opinion that they chose to miss practice, so it should be interesting to see if this helps. Mona isn't that big but fiesty as they come! :D

Straight from Coach Barbay, Newton will have 9 players that will not play tonight at all and 1 that will only play in the second half. These are for disciplinary reasons. They did not have good reasons for missing Monday practice. Will have a lot of kids going both ways, and on a lighter note said if tackling wasn't better he might put his wife in. I believe Mona could get the job done myself! ;)

Sometimes they can be detrimental. The kids get to reading, and worse, believing them and sometimes that can work against you. Newton has been ranked by polls very high numerous times and really only a few times were justified. The only thing that matters is if you can take home the trophy after all is said and done. Polls mean nothing.

I'd rather see a difference in the defense. :D

I've seen them the last two years and they not only have the talent they have very good coaching. They run like a well oiled machine both offensively and defensively. I don't see anyone in 2A stopping them.

This is a quality guy. I told him it was no big deal and he still went out of his way to do this. Kudos and karma.

I don't know the answer for Kountze other than keep on trying. Winning becomes ingrained in both the team and community. After they expect to win, losing becomes very distasteful. Keep supporting the team.
