Barbay has stated this year or next will be his last year. My question is what would be attractive to an applicant for the vacancy? Tradition, facilities, area, pay? Barbay I know initially liked being here for the closeness to the lakes and his second love of bass fishing. What do you think?

I think age may play into this. WT is getting a little long in the tooth and really Darrell or Brian either one would have the upper hand there. I hope the school board would be looking for another long term coach.

Where did you go to school ryker. 2010 -2005 = 5. Not close to 100. lol I don't know about the coaching thing. That could be years away and who knows what could happen.

It has to do with us getting our butts kicked in Kirbyville and other members of the district taking notice. Do you understand now or is that too much for you to comprehend?

Newton can rebound and the offense will get better as the year progresses. The defense is the big concern. Ran into some EC fans at McNeese game and they're already licking their chops like they can win.

Rykerx, Kirbyville fans crow a lot, but still haven't won the big one. All the beatings you can put on Newton won't change that fact.

When you have two coaches arguing on the sideline and the head coach has to step between them during the game, things aren't going well. And before anyone starts, this is not bashing or hear say, just a fact that was seen by many on Friday night including myself. Newton's non existent defense is what beat them Friday night. You can't give up 540 yards and have much hope of winning. Offense will come around. I'm not sure about defense.

[/quote] I hate to break it to you, but Coach Barbay said this morning that the defense is not near where he thought it would be by now and they have changed some positions players are playing to try to find some cure for some of the problems. This has always been his way of coaching. From the beginning of the season until about midway through, lineups are constantly altered to try to find the best chemistry for the team. This year is no different. He also said Kirbyville looks like they are playing like this is their eighth game. Way ahead of anyone else. Very well coached. But not unbeatable. 3A - 2A thing, it takes special talent regardless and if your trying to find that talent out of a small enrollment versus a large enrollment, obviously percentages are with the large enrollment. This still doesn't mean a great team is automatic from either.

Reading comprehension and understanding is a lost art. Kountze should be offended, not Burkeville. But alas, danged the torpedos and full steam ahead! ;D

It's kinda like growing up in a large family. Sometimes you fight with each other, and that's ok, but don't let anyone outside try to assault one out of the family because then they have to fight the whole bunch!  :)

The best thing I remember about that year was Newton 21 - Daingerfield 0 in Nacogdoches and a state championship trophy! :) I think that team was probably the overall most talented that Newton has ever fielded.

That was the only game that year they got to run with the ball.

And if you live west of the Sabine.....they call you east Texan!! :D

Here is what was said in the paper. "The last game will be with Kountze. Last year, well Burkeville was playing too, but they had to be one of the sorriest teams that put on uniforms. They've got to be better because you don't get no worse than they were. Now that's the kind of game you really hate to play because that's the kind of game that you get people hurt in. Guys will be standing around and somebody will get a knee hurt, twist an ankle, something like that." He was speaking to a hometown lions club meeting and giving a game by game run down of the season. Something he has done for years.
