The act of passing up quality applicants from this area to go after pie in the sky will, I think, hurt their chances of getting quality applicants from this area for any type job hire in the future. Wanting to appear smart and being smart are two different things. Good luck to Coach Morgan and the dogs. 8)
Sore. One of your friends from the area must have not gotten the job.
I didn't have a dog in the hunt. Just setting up here on my mountain looking down at the commoners. lol ;D

3. Don't take this as Woodville bashing, just a non expert outside observation. Ever since the late sixties and early seventies when I played, Woodville has had good, and some great, athletes. They just had trouble winning in a consistent manner. This past year seems to be the same. I know it is hard to instill that winning tradition and carry it forward with different kids and parents as the years change, but I think it is at the heart of most "winning" programs. It is going to be interesting to see how both Woodville and Newton develop over the next couple of years. I think Newton over the last couple of years has lost some that tradition with the kids as well as losing the leader, Coach Barbay. It will be interesting to see if WT can bring it back. ECBucFan brought up a very valid point in that this years team seemed to at times quit. They did not "play till the whistle blows" on many occasions. I look forward to see if WT corrects this. And again, my hats off to EC and the class the team showed as well as the touching halftime performance by their band this year in Newton. Job well done.
4. Well, let's give 'em the win! ;D And it was the last 7 minutes of the game when Newton scored.
5.
Yes they did. Good job newton. But for te people that have it set I. Their mind that newton outplayed Woodville that whole, you have no idea what you're talking about. Woodville took it too them the whole game until the last 5 minutes when they made a few costly mistakes.
I guess this "outplayed" included Newton coming back from trailing by a couple of touchdowns and taking the lead. Talk about not knowing what your talking about. :D
6. I have all kinds of respect for the EC program and the kids that participate including their band. The way they handled Newton this year (including the bands performance at halftime) was a true show of class. The football team came out and played hard (which is what Coach Barbay would have expected and respected) and took it to Newton. But when exaggerations and untruths are espoused simply to try to raise the accomplishments on field of a quality year by a single individual that wants desperately for his team to seem superior in all respects, I have to challenge that logic. EC team had a good year and are to be commended for it. Wild accusations and exaggerations by one so called fan should not reflect poorly on those accomplishments.
7. Raw bitterness doesn't even make sense. Some how you seem to think this is a stinging dig. If this is the best you got, I feel sorry for you. Newton has been beaten worse in the playoffs than the Yoe loss. If you think we won't be back, good. Newton has probably lost more playoff games than EC too, but we also are 3 for 4 in State Title games. How many does EC have? You must live close to I10 because all that exhaust has given you dain bramage. Rave on and add this year to the 82 consecutive playoff appearances that zings your bell. Still no titles.
8.

Are there trophys for what round you went out in? EC should have a closet full of those.
Pay 'em no attention, thats just raw bitterness speaking. Tons of that in Newton lately. 3rd place Newton is not even in the discussion!  ;D
Bitter? How can telling the truth be bitter? After the year Newton had I was proud of third place! All this crowing about what ec did, and still not accomplishing much makes me laugh. East Chambers team played hard and had a great QB in the Jones kid, but was far from dominate and advanced to the third round based on a tie breaker rule and getting a bye in the first round, which means they did not play any more playoff games than Anahuac or Newton. :D
9. Are there trophys for what round you went out in? EC should have a closet full of those.
10. 1998 AAA State Title for Curtis Barbay's Newton running the wing T. 2005 AA State Title for Curtis Barbay's Newton running the wing T. The 2005 Title was the last of any team in this area from any classification.
11. It was a share. EC advanced in the playoffs as district champs based on the tie breaker. Tie breaker only enforced in case of tie. ;D Woodville had Newton beat and snapped the ball prematurely and caused a turnover as they were driving in the red zone.
12. Go and take care of business today Trojans. Win and no one can argue who was best in 3A DII for a full year! Nobody remembers who lost except the team that lost. Don't let that happen. Good luck Bryan, show that purple pride today. The Eagle family is behind you all the way!
13. Say it ain't so WT! Great football mind, but fashion sense may need help! Even when we wore the second hand PNG pants with Indian stripes down the leg they weren't this bad. :D
14.

Congrads to all. I don't want to say anything negative, but I couldn't help but notice that Coach Hobbs from Legacy is the coach on the list.  Really?!
Gotta agree with you on that one, Soulja.  It was a class move to include Reggie Garrett, posthumously.  Another one would have been to list Curtis Barbay as Coach of the Year.
I agree.
15. Another Barbay State Championship. Coldspring "D" is what winning titles is all about. Bryan and the rest of those coaches have done a tremendous job. Newton is pulling for ya'll. Purple Pride all the way Bryan!
16. Long time Newton assistant coach Melvin Hartsfield passed away last night. He was an assistant coach for Newton many years coaching the defensive backfield. Coach Hartsfield had retired several years ago. Prayers to the Hartsfield family.
17. Hatton from Newton could be looking for a position. ;D
18. Which Grandma?
19.
I got a feeling they will be alright!
Do you read tea leaves or sacrifice chickens to get these feelings? ;D
20. Could be a very good Christmas in Newton!
21. I think the powers that be need to get this done and let's get started on 2011. I agree, give W.T. the same latitude that Coach Barbay had for years. For as new directions, I know it will be done no matter who comes in because they won't be Coach Barbay, but don't throw the baby out with the bath water. Whom ever comes in should be made aware of what has made Newton into the power house they have been for these many years. Coach Barbay was the mastermind, no doubt, but there is a system in place that has produced many, many good athletes for all those years.
22. Congrats to all the kids and coaches. It was a very unpredictable year full of great football. Thanks for the ride!

24. This off season will be more interesting than any in a long time at Newton. We will of course have hopes for next year, but will also have a new head coach to hire and hopefully a lot of assistants. That will be fodder for local know it alls. ;D
