  1. Last year the score was something like 35-28 Crosby
  2. Is the hoff kid the tough running back, strong? He looks like he was formulated in some Katy tiger laboratory made from an old rice silo. He is perfect for their offense.
  3. Congratulations Patriots. Great win. Congratulations Coach Carter, Coach Ragsdale and staff. The poster above was right, this new set of coaches had nothing to do with scheduling. There is nothing wrong with putting up big #s as long as players are rotating out, which I’m sure happened. The other team has every opportunity to stop them. You can’t take a knee or let the clock run, this is varsity football. Go Patriots.
  4. Just got back, great game big crowd. Actually if Katy hadn’t mistackled on the two big north shore plays, hitch td from 85 out-2missed tackles at point of catch and kickoff return by north shore on pooch kick with several missed tackles on athletic run, the tigers would have won by 17 or so. Katy’s offensive line would challenge the bill o brian Texan offensive line right now. Their defensive line also dominated especially in the second half. The grind it out old school offense with play action passes will go undefeated again until November in reliant when they meet up with North shore again. Katy will get better as the season goes, but to only a certain percent. They were better organized, more discipline, and in better shape than a much younger north shore squad. now north shore showed , what I thought , a great ,deep defense. In the first half alone Katy’s offensive line forced 3 def lineman to leave the game and not return. So the second half was played with a majority back up d lineman. Even though Katy controlled the second half, north shore defense kept them out of the end zone in a bend but don’t break effort. North shore defense has the potential to be as good as last years. Their offense needs experience in the o line and tonight will serve as a big teaching tool for coach Kay and staff. They need their injured stud receiver back. The offense like the d will improve. Unless major injuries inflict these two teams, their rematch in November will be epic. But as an old coach said, it’s a long season. But what a great way to open it up for the whole country to see this marvelous spectacle called Texas high school football.
  5. Hey navydawg 31, this is coach Bear. I’ll be at the game, if you are solo and want to talk football, text me 281-787-4534, and let know

where you’re sitting. I’m gonna try to get on north shore side out of the sun. Coach Bear

  7. Amazing at how poor football wise Cleveland has evolved to . I remember the Indians in 96, we played them in Crosby with future longhorn Ivan Williams and a lot other athletes. I would always watch our opponents get off the bus. Everyone off the Cleveland bus had a white shirt and tie. No Ivan, then about a minute afterwards Ivan steps off with headphones and UT warmups that had UT coaching staff embroidered on it. Treat racehorses like racehorses and plow horses like plow horses. We lost that game 27-24 in a cold rainstorm on a mud field when a blue norther came through in late September. In the 90s Cleveland had some high potential teams. Hopefully the new coach can get them back on track.

  9. I pick Katy in an upset. I believe it will be best for north shore chances for a repeat state championship to lose early to gather a chip on their shoulder for the rest of the season. Coach Kay would use this to push them a little harder to defend their title . This Katy-north shore game isn’t as important as the impending re match in November. Do SETX contributors sit in a certain place at big games? I plan on going and would love to banter with the men whom I only know by website handle. I’ve been a lurker like most southeast’s Hs football coaches for 15 years and only since retirement last year been posting. katy 24 north shore 21
  10. Yes, Nathan Helburg was my j v soccer coach at Crosby . I was the def coordinator in the 90 s and started the soccer program under the desire of then Superintendent Don Hendrix. We began with varsity only and then added a jv 3 years later.Nathan , dad ,can also kick well . Once in 96-97 we had a fundraiser where fans bought chances to get selected to kick a 30 or 40 yard field goal for $10,000. If selected the fan could choose someone to kick for them . Midway through a chosen fan selected coach Helburg and he blasted it good. Fun times. Nathan is also a top AP government and eco teacher as well as one of the best soccer coaches in the region.
  11. Splendora had a great year last year, and have a good, very good coaching staff, but with the quality of football 4A talent in the state, they belong 25-30 at best. Just my opinion and not trying to be negative to splendora.
  12. You are right, what the north forest coach did by checking off on the previous participation form ,that he believes the said athlete moved for athletic reasons, should be the norm from the leadership of a head coach and not COURAGEOUS . Doing the right thing, not the easy thing, shouldn’t be courageous, just part of a responsible adult. To follow the rules. If a coach is unethical, the new district members will find this out and allow him to play. Coaches do want what is best for athletes, but best doesn’t mean bending to their momentary wants. Many of us weren’t given the candy when we cried for it at the store. Others were, and they continue to cry as adults. If the athlete feels the district committee is wrong, they can appeal to the state UIL .Present their case and let the state decide. Remember 3 of the 8 cases were allowed to play, so due diligence does work on deserving cases. It’s obvious by the numerous discrepancies in the article, his case wasn’t deserving .In today’s society it sometimes takes courage to do the right thing.
  13. 1. North Shore 2. WB 3. LaPorte 4. Deer park 5. King 6. United 7. Channelview 8.sterling My prediction, just feel that Laporte with the coaching change , especially a defensive minded head coach, will do well , tough kids are still there, talented kids there also and a small hometown feel with support. A special place in my heart for them since this was my last place to coach two years ago before retirement. Putting Deer 4th in hopes of helping Brook. So my prediction is done with my heart and not my head. I’m just glad I’m not putting money on it.
  14. On a side note, I haven’t seen anything about the dad. His dad was a tough running back at CE King in the 90s who wore a huge neck brace. I was DC at Crosby then and my former cougar players still rub their heads when they reminisce tackling or trying to tackle him. Definitely great genetics.
  15. Just read a letter on an Aggie website from the mom of the quarterback at Tomball blasting the UIL. The young man in question lives in that house and seems to have been living there a while. Everyone is blasting the forest brook coach who to me is the courageous one. Like I said earlier, HISD is fed up with their good players leaving for the burbs. Tomball s district schools voted 6-1 to NOT let him play, what do they know, probably the same that the Forest Brook coach knows. There are so many questions in this case, it is an easy decision for UIL to UPHOLD what Tomball s district already decided. Sorry, but RULES are RULES and in today’s society everyone is looking for a loophole. I love all Texas pro, college and high school teams, but rules must be followed.
  16. HISD just got tired of having their good athletes go to suburbs. There is a big influence from workout companies and AAU on many of these athletes. Rules are rules. If he or his family couldn’t present compelling evidence to the state then the state would agree with the local district. The state wants local districts to enforce UIL rules.
  17. Tough team to challenge as your first scrimmage, especially if you’re coming after a disappointing season like the Broncos had last year. New Caney won district over PAM last year and NC returns almost all their very explosive skill kids. They have a solid coaching staff, experience and probably a lot of confidence. Just saw where there outside lber, a junior, just committed to the Horns. NC could end up being quite a force in the region. They could have easily beat Crosby in last years opener. I was really surprised at Dayton’s record cause they played so many games close, but they always found a way to lose. Confidence in losing, Murphy’s law, happens to a lot of teams. I’m expecting Dayton to have a better year, how good🧐, the district is still a beast. Just got to get better each practice. An early win would do wonders for the Broncos.
  18. Good news, always love teams that lead with defense. A little different from previous Crosby teams. They’ll get tested early with New Caney, Manvel, and W O S. The kicker is just a sophomore I believe.
  19. Isn’t North Shore an open campus?
  20. That man caused many Marlin tears late in the fourth with that run. I believe Donnie Little and State champion Dickinson only beat Silsbee 6-0 the next week. This delayed my dome turf debut until 1996 as DC in Crosby. Great times.
  21. Been looking for an old timer to mention a name of someone I played against, William Arline I believe, QB from the 77 Silsbee team that beat us , Marlin Bulldogs, at Stephen F in the second round. He was explosive and scored from about 60 out late in the fourth to re take the lead and beat us. He may not be the same caliber as later quarterbacks, but he was dangerous. This silsbee team also had Graham, Schankle ( future horns) Eddy Roby and Craig Mcgallion. Donnie Little and Dickinson beat them the next week by a touchdown in the dome on the way to the state championship. We were so heartbroken especially when we found out the dome was the predetermined site of the next game in 3A playoffs. The DOME in the 70’s was a big deal. Is my memory of the quarterback s name correct? Thanks
  22. Stop blaming, great season, great group of seniors, awesome year. 90% of all football players in the state would give anything to make it this far.
  23. Good luck PNG, no mistakes, a couple of trick plays, great gang tackling and hopefully catch Marshal looking ahead.
  24. Love all the posts about png and Dustin Long the year y’all beat lamarque. We (Crosby)lost to them the week before 13-7 and I was the defensive coordinator. Near the end, they fumbled and my defensive end could of scooped and scored for the win, but he didn’t drop his big butt and he ended up fumbling and recovering. We didn’t put it in. Great memories, Dome had some great games, teams, and memories.
  25. At this stage of the playoffs little things matter, a lot. Marshals defense is NOT their bright spot, but obviously they’ve gotten away with it all year. The buffalo poor defense will not change how they practice nor their poor defensive expectations of their coaching staff, and thus their downfall either Friday or next week. Defense still wins championships in all team sports. Marshal sees what is on the horizon with Huntsville so I think they’ll be looking ahead to some hornets. They’ve watched png/Huntsville video. In their minds they’re are already repping against Huntsville so if PNG starts well, a victory is possible. Harder to overcome adversity against a team you (in their minds) have already put up on the bookshelves with another win. I don’t bet, but if I did, the stage is set for an upset. PNG has won many close games which has helped prepare them for this one. If PNG is tied or ahead at half, they win. Indians will not blow out the Buffs, yet buffs could blow out png. I pick png by 10 in the upset. Tall receiver and smart special teams (f g kicker, onside) must have great games.
