  1. Congratulations Dogs!!!!!! Now get ready to upset Katy--you can do it. We want a rematch for the regional title with PAM........ ;)
  2. I have say congratulations to all these S-east Texas winning teams. I was at the Port A game vs Springs and was happy to see them advance despite playing one of their worst games. Love to see a Laporte PAM rematch in two weeks. I have been here 28 years coaching and have always thought my home area Central Texas had the best football, but I am starting to change my mind. Congrats to all winners, next week is big. I have always cherished playing and/or coaching the week of Thanksgiving because of all alumni in town. Cherish this week, you'll remember it forever!!!!!! :D

  4. Joe Bob ---really????-you don't proofread your posts???
  5. Very deserving for him and family. I played against his Silsbee team in 78 in second round where William Arline, Doug Shankle, Craig McGallion and a fast quarterback beat us by 7 in last seconds. Played in all star game with Craig and have crossed paths with the coaching family on and off the past 28 years and have always been impressed by their tremendous character which undoubtedly came from Stud's leadership.
  6. Sports society has changed so much from the 60's and 70's when the NFC and AFC had two reps each. Look at the NFL today. The same with high school, some GREAT teams that finished 2nd with no hope of seeing if they were better than the ONE play that caused them to stay home.  The 4 playoff team rule, I believe is good, we shouldn't pick and choose one team and say that is the reason a 4th shouldn't be allowed, because we can also check history and find 4th place teams that BEAT 1st place teams from other districts. Then should we not allow an entire district because Joe Bob said the district is soft?? Make the rule follow the rule and it will all come out in the end. Not a good argument about Kirbyville. It is so much more VALID than the BCIS system. The older I get I try not to look back and compare because I often look through rose colored glasses. 35 years ago I remember being 6' 2"  195 lbs and ran a 4.4 because with time the past is always better. Live today, look forward to tomorrow, but stop looking back to a rose colored past.

  9. I think Coach Breeze at RSS is related to Drew Brees- first cousin- and second cousin to Lil Weezy (has he been freed yet?) Coach Breeze can coach, lead cheers before big games, and rap like a straight up thug!! :D
  10. I bought one -won't give it up but can make copy of it-great program, one of the best I have seen with team pix, records, coaches names etc.........
  11. I was there at Jerry Jones stadium and it was tremendous. To the coaches who are against it, I ask you what sport in Texas allows coaches to decide the state championship other than football. For the public and teams (weather not a problem in dome and Dallas is the most central location with this type of stadium) it is best. All other forms of football have a designated place for the championship, check college and pro. I just wish the good Lord allows me to one day coach in this venue. Being there is much better than watching on TV. I met a lot of fans from all over Texas who follow HS football and loved it. :D
  12. I coached Johnnie- great RB and great young man. I believe you also have to include Marcus Worthington (Clack) in the talk. All the other names are also great candidates. I coached Trinity during his senior year, which wasn't as good as his soph year according to the tape I saw. I coached Cottens two sons who were unbelieveable athletes who eventually specialized in baseball. If their Dad was as good as I heard, he would be up there. I coached Jerome Lockett son who played linebacker and nose for me, tremendous athlete, heard Dad was better. Cartwright is the one I always heard of as the best. Great Topic.
  13. from a previous question on the process-most districts allow head coaches to make nominations from their own team and then they cannot vote for own player. Practice has been held all 4 schools I have coached at.
  14. i would like to join if you don't mind an old coach going. Love reading the board and all the chatter, but haven't fished offshore much--count me in if it is not too late.
  15. I know that I am like a lot of ya'll, played in late 70's or early 80's--but I disagree with most of you who think that the playoffs are too saturated--I have coached 28 years and Memorial is another example of WHY having 4 teams in your district go to your playoffs is a good thing. Easy to jump on the bandwagon of the "good old days", but I am old and crusty like a lot of ya'll, but the good old days are often seen through rose colored glasses. I also believe there needs to be a 16 team playoff in D-1 football like other divisions (not sure of the #  in D-2 etc..) Good luck to Memorial and all the other teams in Texas. If you love football, like me, life is good right now.
  16. Saw Cameron play earlier this year during our off week against my hometown Marlin. Cameron easily won. Cameron has nothing spectacular except a little Jacquizz type RB, but very SOLID at all positions. I think Newton is a little down (not sure)from previous posts--I think Cameron takes this one.
  17. This is a great post and jab--very knowledgeable fans- maybe coaches?? I wish I didn't have an assignment against a "non talented North Shore team", I know --oxymoron, I would definitely be in Dayton. I can't imagine the money being talked at the plants???? This is good high school football and why it is easily the most popular/passionate sport outside of college/professional in the world. We all played on Friday and know the rush of playing especially your next door BLOOD rival. These feelings weren't quite this way when I was at Crosby ten to twenty years ago. Good luck to both the Cougars and Flan, and Broncos and Stewart. Could be an epic--but often these could become onesided??

  19. Very astute observation--must be an accountant because you are looking at the facts. The only difference will be if variables are thrown into the equation. The variable are things like emotion, weather conditions, recent injuries, and coaching blunders.
  20. Very inappropriate CougTalk. If anything Coach Stewart should be lauded for keeping him both eligible and playing football during his time in Dayton. No doubt that Dugat was given special treatment during his high school years, not necessarily by Coach Stewart alone, but by the entire Dayton ISD and surrounding community. Dugat is human and no one could keep this preferable attention from affecting his psyche. So when he goes to big university where he doesn't have the support system he had in his little hometown, he makes wrong decisions which AJ did. It is part of growing up--just that AJ's growth is documented in the media. Don't hate him or Coach Stewart OR let envy show on your part. He was a special player and they are not always the easiest to handle. But COach STewart in my eyes has always put team first. When I coached with him at CLear Lake, we had a potentially 3 or 4 round team in the spring that was a little void of skill players. We got a move in from Houston Madison who was first team receiver and cornerback, and was in all honor classes. After two weeks, he stole our noseguards Jordans. WHen Coach Stewart found this out, he told the kid that he was sorry, but family don't steal from family and he wouldn't be a part of his team. As a young coach, I was mentally hoping Jerry would give him a second chance- this kid was SPECIAL. Jerry had integrity. We still went 2 rounds that year with character. THis is why players run through brick walls for Coach Stewart. Give him his profs, but don't let the heat of the moment (game with Crosby)blur his integrity. His track record speaks for itself.
  21. Very good post-- I usually use this site to see what the public thinks of football in the area. Coaches do read these though, and we find them somewhat amusing and educational. Some are senseless and some take a very good point. I feel this post is spot on. I worked with Jerry Stewart for 3 years ( I am currently in my 28th year) and he still operates with the same criterian he used at Clear Lake in the late 80's early 90's. His kids always are physical, mistake free, and playing their best at the end of the year. His methods have definitely shaped the way I coach, and I believe most of his former assistants would agree with me. Football is a very simple game of blocking and tackling, and Jerry has always been a master of teaching both. Coach Bear

  23. I will be hosting a free strength and nutrition clinic for all southeast texas high school and juinor high coaches of all sports on Jan. 20 at 7-10 pm at Goose Creek Memorial HS. The clinic will be given by Dan Riley, NFL strength coach of over 27 years with the Redskins and Texans (also Penn St. and Army) and Roberta Anding who is the Texan dietician and a Rice professor. Please pass this info down to your high school coaches as they will provide sound strength and nutrition advice for our athletes. They are experts in their fields and so often we as coaches have to make strength and nutrition decisions for our teams, players, and parents, but we don't have their level of expertise. The public is also invited, but both public and coaches must secure a spot by emailing me at      [email protected]  and give me a list of those for sure attending. I am sure we can all learn a lot. I want to especially thank Al Richard, GCM principal for allowing this to happen. Joe Berezoski Coach Bear [Hidden Content]
