AshlyHasBeen got a reaction from Mr. Buddy Garrity in Class of 2015 prospects
PA Memorial's Corey Dauphine received an offer from Texas A&M today. He's committed to Tech but said he'll do what's best for him in the end when I spoke with him. Considering he wants to run track and the Aggies have won track National Championship in 2009, 2010, 2011 and 2013 things just got interesting.

AshlyHasBeen got a reaction from Mr. Buddy Garrity in Recruiters Coming To Town...
It's that time of the year. Same thing in basketball. I was at the Jungle Wednesday night and Coach Bob Huggins and his assistant were there. They visited Memorial earlier in the day. -

22-5A, 21-3A and TAPPS already had 7 pm starts. Of course I'm a fan of the earlier kickoffs lol. -
AshlyHasBeen got a reaction from goldenlady in Vidor vs PNG 4/18/14 Predictions Updates
I was close to home plate. The umpire wasn't favoring either team. It was very even for the 3 innings I was there. PNG trailed 7-2 when I left. He had a low strike zone for both pitchers. -
AshlyHasBeen got a reaction from goldenlady in Vidor vs PNG 4/18/14 Predictions Updates
Vidor was really taking it to LeDoux before he was taken out in the 2nd. I'm not sure if there's something wrong or if it was just an off night. Breaking ball was hanging a lot. Hasn't been the same since the first meeting with the Pirates. Gotta tip your hat to Vidor for jumping on it and piling it on. Foshee looked solid when I was there, Pirates playing good D as well.

AshlyHasBeen got a reaction from spoonbill in Nederland @ PNG
I would say PNG had bad approaches at the plate tonight. Constantly swinging at the first pitch and getting in a hole. The pitch counts between the starters wasn't even close. In the 7th they were more selective and got on base. Great game by both teams. Kemp was getting ahead on swings and misses on breaking balls that would've been balls. Lots of foul balls on first pitches. Me and Lance from Vype were saying the same thing. Indians probably swung at the first pitch at least 70% of the time. As a pitcher you love that.

AshlyHasBeen reacted to shell005m in Nederland Freshman Baseball Class
I Agee with a lot of post on this subject. And through the yrs I have seen its true what ShlyKBMT said! Unfortunately nothing really matters until Varsity. Kinda don't make too much since because these guys will be the ones playing for Varsity soon. My son did play on both the soph & JV levels and those yrs they had great seasons. They had fun! They know the fundamentals of the game by now or they wouldn't be on the team. From what I understand the boys like the coaches on these teams. The parents are the ones scratching their heads. Good luck Soph & Jv teams, you are almost there! -

At the Sophomore and JV level coaching doesn't matter too much. We won district both years with coaches not very familiar with baseball. Once in 5A and once in 4A. You learn coverages, etc. from the varsity coach and by working in with varsity whenever possible. Heck we made our own line up some games and nearly went undefeated both years. By high school you have a good handle on the ins and outs of the game. In my opinion sub-varsity games are nearly always won by the team with more talent. It's almost like Sandlot ball. At the varsity level there's much more strategy going on. From setting up pitching rotations to scouting reports, etc. A team with tons of talent can be beaten by top coaches. I can't speak for every school but our sub-varsity used to get plenty of work with varsity in practice. That's where things are learned, not the games.
