Houston covers Rice and UH when things are slow or it's a major event. There are times we've called for footage and are told they didn't get it. Since we're ABC/NBC we have the option of getting video from Ch. 2 or 13. I showed the Sam Houston highlights because KTRK (ABC) was covering the Houston Regional. Houston doesn't cover Lamar or Sam Houston. Nor will Houston Baptist get much love when they join the SLC. KBTX 3 in Bryan sponsors Sam but isn't always there. Beaumont by far covers a SLC school more than anyone else. When we cover the tournaments the joke is when LU is eliminated media vanishes. 

No facial hair allowed at PN-G. The first year Coach Stone came over from Nederland he told a few guys to get haircuts and also to shorten our sideburns. He did slip up saying we could grow beards if we won a few games in a row but then he was told my principals we couldn't.

The surface at PN-G looks and feels different than PAM, BISD and Lamar. PAM feels different from all of them even though BISD and Lamar used the same company. Hellas Matrix turf is what you find in Cowboys Stadium and is a much better product in my opinion than FieldTurf. Lamar University practices on theirs all the time so it really doesn't have much do with overuse. There are a batch of bad fields that were built around the same time that are failing. FieldTurf is blaming the nylon fiber company and of course the schools are blaming FieldTurf. Better to move on to a better product and let the lawyers figure it out.

The big problem with BYU in the BCS conferences is scheduling. Their team will not play on Sunday's no matter what. This has kept the big boys from reaching out to them in the past.

I think baseball season should've taught fans something. Nederland was an odds on favorite with PN-G losing some good talent last year. But paper predictions mean nothing. That goes for any team. I've been to West Brook, Memorial, PN-G and Ozen practices so far. Out of those Ozen looked the worst but it doesn't mean they'll be horrible in fall. Just because a team is young doesn't mean they can't be good.

Sam Houston State is very nice. Not sure if it can be used since the Kats will be on the road for the SLC Tournament (some schools have that policy).

SFA is not a very nice field. Not very big either. Media guide says it seats 1,000. Didn't even look that big when I've covered games there.

BBVA Compass holds 22,000 and TSU will be playing there. I wish there was a way to have the smaller classes play at BBVA and larger classes at Reliant. I don't want the Texans to remove the grass surface though.

If doesn't matter if the first game was at PN-G (which I never heard officially). Unless Memorial agrees to play both games on the road the Indians would still have to play a return game in PA. Like I said I have no problem going over there but after last year's incident there were concerns that had nothing to do with rosters. Faircloth isn't known for ducking competition and got the ball rolling on playing Memorial in scrimmages when the past coach had nothing to do with the Titans.

No unless he decides to retire. And yes he has spoken about retiring off camera but not this year.

Final SLC Weekend Lamar at UTSA A&M-CC at UTA Nicholls at SFA McNeese at SE Louisiana Texas St. at Northwestern St. Sam Houston at UCA Doesn't look good. A LU sweep and SFA collapsing would be the long shot. Two games back of the Jacks and hold the tie breaker.

Haven't heard. I know Faircloth really likes scrimmages with PAM.

Following the incident with West Brook fans at Memorial last year all talk of the Indians and Titans game seemed to evaporate. I remember a few years back PN-G played at Forest Brook and had some issues. The school vowed to never have their fans put in harms way again. Considering my mom lives pretty close to Memorial Stadium playing there would've been fine to me. With the amount of players Memorial has lost too I don't think it had anything to do with the competition.

Summer Creek went 9-2 last year. 6-1 in district. Wins: Pasadena Rayburn, Magnolia, South Houston, Huntsville, Kingwood Park, Willis, New Caney, Caney Creek, Porter, Humble. Loss: Willis, Magnolia West (Bi-District)

The coach says the schedule is nearly complete. A couple of WAC and SEC schools have to finalize things after conference realignment. They will play 8 fall games with 4-6 of those at home. Sept. 22 LU will host Texas Women's University at Ford Park. They will also play at Louisiana-Lafayette in the fall. As far as the spring things will start at the UTSA Tournament. They'll also play in the University of Texas Tournament. She couldn't remember their spring home opener though.

Well I hated to hear about it. He was very out reaching to the media. Giving out his personal number. I even had a chance to hang out with him the Tuesday night he was introduced. Seemed like a good guy.
