Explain please...

Of all the games I've attended in this rivalry, two stick out in my mind. The 89 game when the dogs came into Silsbee ranked 6th(iirc) in the state and lost a very tight low scoring game. I think it was along the lines of 13-9. Silsbee had a couple of great defensive stops on their own goalline in the 4th quarter. That was the most intense game at old Kirby Stadium that i can remember.       The other game was in Jasper, the night the lights went out.

the game at jasper that was a tie and silsbee won on first downs was a good one too...i believe the QB(mathews)got a thigh bruise and would just stand by the ball (so he wouldn't have to walk to the huddle) when silsbee broke the huddle they would tell him the play...a true warrior....i believe silsbee considers this more of a rivalry than jasper does....

I disagree with that, most of the older folks from Jasper that I know considers Silsbee their biggest rivalry.

I would say Newton or Kirbyville is Jasper's biggest rival right now.  Honestly I love playing Newton in Newton. We would pack those visitor's side like no other.  Now don't get me wrong WOS & Silsbee are still big rivalries, but just not where they were in the 90's.

You know Terror, Coach Roc had already said we were playing in a tournament with exempt games so I didn't post this as breaking news.  This is the slow time of the year so when I see any Lamar-related material I'll post it.

I was referring to you say that "only 1 of the 4 games counts against the number of games you can play."  Figured you knew what a MTE is, guess I was mistaken. I do not fault you for posting any mention of Lamar elsewhere.

Next summer, it'll pick up this time of year.

Black is what MLB has gone too, and it just looks better at night.  You should still see the Navy at the JV levels, but as far as Varsity expect the Lt. Blue and Black.

Let's just hope we get on a roll and make the tournament.  Let's remeber that it's not always the best team that wins the tourney, it's normally the team playing the best ball at that time.  Let's hope we are the team that does it.  Ala 2008 NY football Giants!

The Tyler Chapter of TASO Baseball Umpires has agreed to call games this spring under the UIL's new pay scale, President Dwight Thomas said.

However, the chapter is still not happy.

The agreement came during the chapter's bi-monthly meeting Wednesday. The chapter will follow the pay scale outlined in section 1204 of the UIL's contest rules manual, even though "umpire chapters and their schools have always been able to agree on pay scales that best suit their needs," Thomas said.

"It boiled down to the fact that we wanted to cover the schools and coaches that have been good to us over the years, which is all our schools," said Thomas, whose organization officiates for 37 schools. "We are not happy about the pay cut we are taking, but we know it's best for our schools. We hope that the local superintendents will contact people (in the future) who work with the UIL and get the pay scale fair."

According to Thomas, baseball officials suffer financially under the pay scale because it's a "one-size fits all" plan. Officials from each UIL sport -- baseball, football, basketball, volleyball, etc. -- receive a base pay of $45 per game and a portion of gate fees.

Thomas said most schools don't take gate fees at baseball games. He said he hopes the UIL would consider creating a pay scale on par with the expense required to outfit new umpires -- between $500-700 -- and game lengths.

On Jan. 14, the chapter decided to challenge 1204. The challenge meant schools could have been forced to use outside umpires to call games when the season begins next month.

"Tyler's chapter of TASO umpires understand their disagreement is with the UIL and do not want to have area high school baseball games officiated by untrained volunteers or lesser qualified umpires, which could negatively impact the fairness of contests," Thomas said. "We have chosen to cover the games to show the schools and their leadership that we are there to serve them."

"Section 1204 is a bad rule and needs to be changed before the start of the 2009-10 school year."

The Tyler chapter consists of about 60 umpires, almost all of which attended Wednesday's meeting. One umpire decided to not call games this spring, Thomas said.

In my opinion this is a must win game for the Cards.  They have to win out at home if they want anything better then a 16th seed.
