  1. Why would you have varsities playing jv's in summer league? Not sure I get that!
  2. Sabine have everyone back? Top 3 (Jackson, Kirk, Byrd) players are back along with whole bench that actually played. They will be better than last year!
  3. In 2A the winner out of Region 3 between Sabine and New Waverly wins state.
  4. 3A playoff team Tyler Chapel Hill has joined. Still looking for 2 more teams. A team from Southeast Texas would add some intrigue!
  5. Sabine High School is looking to fill out tournament bracket for Last Man Standing Tournament Dec 17-19th. Tournament includes pool and bracket play with a 6 game guarantee. There is no entry fee. Current teams confirmed are 2A Reg Finalist Sabine, 3A Reg Finalist Pleasant Grove, 1A Reg Finalist Cayuga, 2A Playoffs Central Heights, 4A Playoffs Mabank. For more info please contact Coach Tim Davis at [email protected]
  6. From the looks of it there are not going to be any easy pools and not many easy games.
  7. Looks like a great field. Already looking forward to it!
  8. Also heard that Huntington will be there next year. Should be some good experience for H-town playing those caliber teams..........How will Sabine be next year? Only lost 2 seniors. Best players are all back. Sabine will be better than last year.
  9. Looks like Sabine is coming back down this year for the HJ Tourney. Heard they were trying to expand it to 16 teams. Looking forward to seeing the new gym. Is it about completed? Anyone hear who else may be joining the tourney?
  10. If Newton is in your coverage area then JaCobey Ross from Newton has to make a team. One of the best players I saw this year!
  11. When you click on the link it say list will be up shortly. Did they have it up and then take it down?
  12. Congrats to Slocum team, Coach Bruce and Jared Lane. Great group of kids and fans. Shows what a lot of hard work and dedication in the off season will do for you. It couldn't have happened to a better group of people!
  13. Congrats to NW on the win! Ponder will be tough. NW is going to have to get hot and make free throws. I doubt Ponder gives them 13 turnovers in the first half like Shallowater did. Ponder likes to get on people early so NW will have to come out hot to make it a game. Good luck tomorrow!
  14. Sabine HS obviously. We didn't get good by being scared of playing anyone. An occassional butt whopping during the summer the last few years have done us good! Thanks for the number! Do you know the dates?
  15. Registrations don't ever really close hen money is involved lol. What is it called?
  16. uhhh....I coach at Hardin-Jefferson, I coach basketball, and we play a very fast pace and I still don't think a shot clock should be implemented in high school. I also believe that claiming that Texas is "behind the rest of the nation" in basketball is a putrid attempt at best for an excuse as to why we don't have a shot clock. High school games that use the shot clock are the exception and not the rule for this nation. The games you see on TV are on TV for a reason. They involve kids that Nike, Adidas and the likes are trying to promote. How do you think those TV spots get paid for? The ONLY reason they may use a shot clock in those games (which I still don't ever recall watching Lebron's HS games on TV and seeing a shot clock involved) is because they can afford to have a fourth official there who is qualified to run a shot clock. Train someone to pay attention for an entire game to when the ball hits the rim??? Seriously, and "train" them to not get caught up watching the game but ONLY the ball hitting the rim??? Doubt it. Not at the high school level. You are from a 2A school that I am very familiar with as I used to be a head coach very near there. Ya'll would have just as much trouble finding someone who could keep that clock as any other school (small or large) in the state. GET'EM NOS!!! ;D Funny Aggie you start a thread for people to discuss a shot clock but now seem to think not everyone is entitled to an opinion. I can respect his opinion on not wanting a shot clock for valid basketball reason but money and lack of a person to push a button are just excuses that have nothing to do with the actual level of play. I am glad Sabine made it one round further than Silsbee if for no other reason than I am sure it wiped that smug know it all attitude off your face at least for a day!
  17. Questions, may I assume that you are an unsigned senior and you want to play in a showcase? And what kind of suggestions are you looking for? No I have a school team looking to play in an event during the early college look period in April!
  18. I need some suggestions for best Houston/Beaumont ncaa showcase event that is going on in area in April that has a high school division. Thanks in advance.
  19. You act like it would require specialty training. Geez I thought schools were in the business of teaching things. If your school can't find someone smart enough to run a shot clock you need to be disbanded. Sounds more like since most off season football coaches run the clock you either a) don't think they are very bright or think they are lazy and could care less? Schools can't be held accountable. lmao
  20. I understand what you are saying but if schools can afford 7 people in the press box, artificial turf, jumbo trons, 9 coaches on the sideline for a football game I think money being an issue is a cope out excuse. I don't think colleges milk the clock. I think it takes them that much time to get through their sets and get a shot they want. Full game Run and gun is out the window in the college game because it has been proven time and time again in recent history that you can't win championships with that style. I heard a lot of the same arguments against the 3 point shot before it was implemented too!
  21. How is that? If you KNOW that the opposition MUST shoot within an alloted time frame, and they are not very good shooters (particularly in HS where typically there are only one or two that can) wouldnt a smart coach just zone them up and wait for a shot to be hoisted, box out and go get it? Now, this is not the case in EVERY HS situation, but it is a reasonable assessment of it...Your coach should know what to do when a team stalls....DONT SIT THERE AND LET HIM DO IT! Especially if you are DOWN... : Just because you don't come out doesn't mean you don't know how. That is just as much a coaching decision as stalling. You did make my point for me though. Coaches might actually have to get in the gym and teach how to shoot the ball instead of just letting the kids play throw and go! It might actually help if Texas had more basketball coaches instead of football coaches assigned to basketball!
  22. Texas High schools have always been behind the times in basketball. We are catching up with the rest of the country in a lot of ways in recent years and producing a better basketball product but we still have a long way to go. A shot clock would bring us into this century!!! And dickvitale I would think a shot clock would make a coach actually have to coach a lot more during a game and in practice. FYI Sabine coach knows how to Coach that is why our players can actually shoot!!!
  23. All of you against a shot clock are you against in the college and pro game too? Stall ball other than end of game has been used by inferior teams for years in high school.
