  1. Tied San Marcos, 21-21 in 3A semifinals in 1964.  San Marcos advanced on penetrations, 5-4, penetrations were the first tiebreaker, then first downs, then total yardage.  Vidor had a big advantage in both those.  Official record that year was 12-0-1.  San Marcos lost to the Palestine Wildcats in the finals.
  2. Lowest yardage output of the year for Vidor and I would bet near that for Dayton too.
  3. No turnovers for Dayton, 3 maybe 4 for Vidor.  I agree, the Broncos didn't look like a polished, playoff experienced team tonight.  but they advance and that's what counts.
  4. Congratulations to the Broncos.  Good game Pirates.  Turnovers and untimely penalties made a big difference in this one.
  5. Both districts had 3 teams with winning records, two teams with .500 records.  I think 20-4A's teams with losing records (Ozen, LCM, Livingston), were probably better than 19-4A's.
  6. I would say #1 PNG and #2 Central had their hands full with 19-4A's 3rd and 4th place teams.  Might not bode well for Nederland and Vidor facing #1 and 2.
  7. Vidor lost to Nederland in non-district play in 2000, then lost to the Bulldogs 21-9 in bi-district at Cardinal Stadium.  The Pirates were the district runner-up to Ozen that year.  (lost by one point to the Panthers on a failed 2 point conversion attempt in 2nd OT, much like Central game this year.)  In 2000 Vidor was in a district with Ozen, Lumberton, Silsbee and Jasper.
  8. Playing at home is a big plus for Vidor and I keep thinking about those 49 points LCM hung on the Lions  three weeks ago.  Should be a good game and a possible shootout.
  9. Turnovers have killed Lumberton in their losses.  If they do not turn the ball over, they can beat Nederland.  Game is at Lumberton and that is a big plus for the Raiders.
  10. Wasn't aware that the starters were pulled in the Vidor game.  Didn't Harmon score with less than a minute left?
  11. From an outsider's point of view, the most obvious thing the Indians have going now is that they appear to be improving each week.
  12. This will be a playoff game for Nederland, (as will the next one), Pirates had better be ready for this one.
  13. In 2000 and maybe 2001, I don't remember. The area had 2 4A districts. TJ, Lincoln, PNG, Nederland, WOS and LCM in one. Ozen, Silsbee, Jasper, Vidor, Lumberton and Livingston in the other. The teams dropping to 3A and the combination of the Port Arthur schools put an end to this setup.
  14. Problem for Vidor will be going on the road to play the top rated team in district/defending district co-champ after losing such a hard fought game against Central. Back to back road games against "possibly" the two top teams will be hard. The intensity/emotion/manner of loss of the Central game may have a lingering effect against Lumberton. We'll see if the Pirates can put the Central loss behind them and not let one loss beat them twice. Road games: Central, Lumberton, Port Neches-Groves, Nederland Home games: Ozen, LCM, Livingston
  15. Only ugly because of the fumbles on both teams. Pirates had a long touchdown run called back late in the game because of a totally unnecessary block in the back. Then, following the penalty, drove to the one with a first and goal. Matthews elected to have Dohzier take a knee twice to run out the last 50 seconds on the clock rather than run up the score, (ala OU's Bob Stoops). HJ's QB Venable and running back Johnson showed some gutsy running, especially in the first half. HJ's no huddle was largely ineffective, due to all the time it took to get a play called, they might as well have huddled up.
  16. I don't believe it has been mentioned that Kelly's last TD came on a kickoff return, (I know, they all count no matter how they're scored) and at the end of the game Vidor had a first and goal at the Kelly 2 yard line and took a knee 3 times to run out the clock.
