1. That distance would be a breeze compared to Coleman Bluecat football district the next two years.  We were moved from a football district where district games were 20,35,50,78 & 94 miles away.  They put us in a football district with SanSaba (94mi), Harper (103mi),Junction (128mi,),Sonora (153mi) and Sonora (161mi).
Coleman is in West Texas just 52 miles south of I-20.  We will be almost to I-10 at some games.  This is a result of splitting some of the divisions.Coleman is 2A Division II

Chester would travel 61 more miles in 6-man for all district games. It would be 399 miles in 6-man,338 miles in 11 man.

  2. I remember the days when Liberty beat Dayton a lot.  I was also at the gamethat Dayton finally "won"  The only thing was that the films should that when that Dayton player crossed the goal line, the ball was in the hands of a Liberty Panther.  That call was the difference in the game and broke a winning streak for Liberty.  Needless to say, we were not to happy.
I hear ya but ya'll probably winning alot then,we were a team that got clobbered by LIBERTY pretty regular ;D ::)

  3. Yes, isn't amazing how people tell other teams who they should play and who they should schedule.  I've never had to worry about that, but I would think that scheduling would not be easy.  Everyone gets the new district teams at the SAME TIME and they have to rush and try to fill there pre district schedules while every other team in the area are trying  to do the same thing! You might want to schedule a certain team, but no, someone else just called them and they are not available.

Hate to say it but these games will not prepare you for Newton Woodville EC Anahuac, need to play some competition that will get you ready for district play..
I'd say scheduling with the chance to get a couple or more wins under your belt sounds like a pretty good idea to me.
A weak pre-district schedule might get You a few Cheap Wins, but it won't help to prep for the likes of E.C., Anahuac, Woodville, Buna and Newton. You need to test Yourself against tough competion in order to have a shot at winning in district play, where the wins mean something.JMAO

Scheduling 2 local 3A teams is nothing to scoff at.  Who do you want them schedule?  Jasper, WO-S, Silsbee to get beat down??  Or maybe drive up to Carthage or Kirbyville and get slaughtered?  I mean get real they already have murder's row in district.  Who else is even left in the area for them to play that isn't already in their district?  Play good competitive games to build up whatever momentum you can to get ready for a very difficult district season.

  4. I think most all of Texas will get to see Abilene High Eagles this year.  If I am not mistaken some or all of those games with out of state teams will be televised.  I don't know if it is FOX or ESPN or who, but there will be some television.
Does Lake Travis run whats considered "sissy-ball?

Did Dodge run "sissy-ball" at SLC when they were busy winning multiple state championships in a row?

I want to understand whats considered "sissy-ball."
i dont know......pass first, run and ask questions later?  Some teams can run the spread, some teams cant, and some teams have to mix it up to be successful. I know after seeing A-High twice last year for a RB to have close to 2,300 yards on the ground you must be doing something right.

  5. Sometimes Coaches are not actively seeking a job but are asked to send a resume.  I live around 50 miles from Wylie...I don't think Coach Sandifer was looking to leave Wylie.  He's been there for about 24 years and done very well.  That is his home! I would not worry if Wylie paid him more....they can afford it!

When a coach decides to shop around for jobs that he has no intention of taking, whether a school district approaches you or not, to get a raise from you current school, is no longer in it for the kids. IMO
WHAT?  Forget the fact that coaching is his livelyhood, and when the opportunity presents itself for him to make more money, or get a little leverage to make more money he should do it everytime.  I guess its ok for anyone else, in any other profession to do the same thing though.  Congrats on Coach Sanifer's raise, and being one of the top paid coaches in Texas.  He deserves it.

Can anyone from Hardin explain this to me? Why would the school district install that cheap carpet on the football field while they have 'blue tarps' still covering the holes in the schools roof?

Was if for that 'big run' they planned in football this year?
"why bother to explain, "uknowit" already.
  7. 42-0 Anahuac

Well Nanna, when you read a weeks worth of stuff like that ^^^^^above, you cannot critique' what you are reading now.  ::)

You are right, having to listen to that can get old.  I guess right now I am referring to several posts.  There can be some  people that might see a few fanatics that ARE "classless" people from a town and suddenly they make it seem like all the fans are classless.  It does not take too many people from somewhere to give the

whole place a bad name.  Nothing gets me more upset than for people to run down the coaches or the player---especially as one person mentioned, doing it where the family can not help but hear.  I do not like hearing fans yelling to take a certain player out and put another in.  I don't like hearing people yelling that the coaches can't coach.  That's usually from someone who has never coached anything in their life.

I know some people think that because they paid there money to get in that they have the right to ruin the game for everyone around them.  Those people are obnoxious!!  There was one dad at a town where I go to see sports events that has been banned by the school district from attending any of the schools athletic events for a year.  Believe me, all the other fans are very happy!  Sorry I'm on my soapbox.  I guess I'm just saying don't judge a place by a few loud mouths (and yes, I'll admit I am guilty of this sometimes.)

  8. Anafanatic, see what happens when you play a weak schedule. If you think EC got a solid defense, wait until your Panthers play Kirbyville. Honestly, I don't think your Panthers can hold any of my Cats jock strap. Good luck on the rest of the way.

You and several EC fans are acting like EC completely blew Anahuac away.  It sounds like two good teams played a very good game that could have gone either way.  If losing by one point to a team was because of playing a "weak" pre district that is not saying much for the winner.-----in other words, you insulted two good teams at the same time.

  9. We should focus on how he reacts to his behavior on this given night.  I'm sure he will be remorseful and vindicate himself as a well mannered young man.  On that note we need to realize this kid does not put himself on a pedestal.  The fact is YOU the fans blow these kids up, therefore setting them up for failure.

Very wise words. It seems to me there was so much hype built up this past year by the Hardin fans, this type of reaction was inevitable. This game and that night is now in the books, and everyone just needs to chill out and move on.  :)

    well said.

  10. "You don't act like a rebel for Christ.  You run down the decisions others make and you don't even know the

        "why's" and the facts."

    Nanna,

Am I to assume that you think that since I am a Christian I am not allowed to disagree or have a different point of view than someone else?  Did it ever occur to you that my son might play for Hardin and I might be a little upset about the decision making that is causing my son to come home from a 55-0 loss and cry?

All I am saying is that before the season started we were on here discussing Villamez's possibly playing for Oklahoma or Texas a&m.   He better be tougher than he was Friday night if he is goign to play for those programs.  Anyone who knows anything about football knows that Mitch not playing last Friday was a bad decision.

    PS.  christians have opinions too.

Yes Christians do and should have opinions and give them when appropriate.  If I missunderstood what you were saying I apologize. It just seemed that you were critizing the coach, Mitch and anyone else in town that did not agree with your thoughts and who cares about an injury.

I have grown children who played sports and I know what it feels like to us and them when a game like that happens.  However, I feel if you want to say something about a coach, a teacher, a principal or anyone else of authority, it should be to them,in private, not on a public forum.  How else are we ever going to show kids today what respect is.  That doesn't mean they have to agree with everyone, but they should learn to show respect.

  11. So since Tebow hasn't really gotten to practice for the last two weeks, do you think that Urban Meyer will hold him out of the LSU game?  I mean, keeping him healthy will make their chances of winning out better and a loss to the #4 team in the nation might not keep them out of the BCS championship game.  Especially if LSU loses another game.  So maybe Meyer should just hold Tebow out of the game.

That scenario is unthinkable because Urban Meyer wants to win them all.  Obviously Haynes doesnt'.  Villamez didn't walk hurt or run hurt.  He averaged 10 yards per carry.  If he had been in teh game from teh beginning he might have taken a little of that pressure off of Taylor and he might have gotten off to a better start throwing the ball.  A coach, team, and community that will tolerate not playing a game to win is unthinkable.  But I am now aware that one exists.

Let's see if we can put this is plain English so you people can understand.

    1. Tim Tebow has nothing to do with this.  He can not come back until a doctor clears him...so maybe he will be held out.

    2. Mitch was wearing a brace so no, he would probably not look look injured.

    3. If you put too much strain on an unhealed injury you could reinjure it and  make it take longer to heal

      completely.

    4. NO coach with an ounce of sense would take a chance on a player being out even longer because he let him

play too much before he was completely ready.  He doesn't want to do something stupid  that  might keep

him out the rest of the season.

    5.  Every coach wants to win every game,

    6.  I hope you never coach a team of any kind, because you evidently put the win over the well being of the

boys or girls on you team.

    7.  You don't act like a rebel for Christ.  You run down the decisions others make and you don't even know the

        "why's" and the facts.

  12. As for Hardin saving Villemez for a team the "know they can beat".....I don't even know what to say.  That is basically saying that coming into the Anahuac game, their coaches and players had conceided that they were going to get beat by Anahuac.  But, now that I say it, they played like they knew they had no chance.  If there is any fact to this rumor as to why MV didn't play, Haynes should be fired!  That is a very poor attitude.

Mitch was not fully recovered from the ankle injury and did not participate in full contact practice during the week of the game. He wanted to play but the coaches were relunctant to play him because he was not fully recovered from his injury.

    Mitch Villemez   7   68   9.7  0   0

10 yards a pop and they say he is "was too injured to play" ?  ::)  Gimmie a break!   Its unfathomable to me that a coach would hold out someone to "later beat someone who they know they can beat". 10 yards a pop. Wow.

I agree completely. If you have a guy who is averaging 10 yards per carry there is no reason to only give him 7 carries and get shut out. This basically looks like Hardin came in this game with their sack tucked back and ready to quit from the beginning. There is no excuse for that.

"Hello?! You play to win the game!!"

    edwards_herman0108.jpg

No excuse for that??  Are you a coach?  I doubt it.  The REASON would have been to not have him on the injury too much when it was not completely healed. DUH!!  That would have been stupid. No, when the game got out of hand, it would have been idiotic!!  Remember he hadn't practiced any that week.

  13. Formerhornet can't help it folks, his wife told me about his "little problem" in the bedroom. This would drive anyone to be in a bad mood all the time.

    lmao

    Thats funny.

Footballplayer and formerhornet sound like little jealous school kids to me.  They know very little about the game. No sense in arguing with em.

    Side note:

I'd sure like to see either one of them (or both) line up against him.

Good luck to Mitch in whatever he decides to do.

FYI i have lined up against him since i was in pee wee that's why i dont think he will get a scholarship at a major D1 he could make the team but idk about scholarship but he defiantly can play but i just see him ending up a SFA SAM or a good Jr. college but i also remember a great athlete Brandon Letsinger who got a Scholarship offer to Mizzou and turned it down and he only weighed about 160 to 170 so you never know what could happen all i say is good luck to him i am just stating my opinion from what I've seen playin him all thos years

Is this going to go on the whole football season??  He has been contacted by several teams, he has been to combines and done well.  No one knows right now where he will end up...........stop beating it to death.  Just wait and see and for pete's sake, leave him alone and let him and his teammates enjoy the season.(and any other player of any sport from any town that everyone decides that they know so much about even if they don't know anything)!!

  14. Man, I haven't looked at this thread in a long time and its gotten a little rediculous. If u haven't seen villamez play, then don't hate on him. I played around several D-1 guys in high school and in college and Mitch is that good. IMO he's head and shoulders better on the field than Copleand was. He plays with a pile more heart than Shelton did at HD. And for the guy that says he wouldn't start at Dayton, lay off the crack pipe. I knew the late Derrick Briggs from dayton very well and he ended up playing DB at Texas Tech and this kid is just as good as Derrick was, just playing at a small school. I've watched every small school prospect in the area over the last 15 years including reggie white and tony bua, tremaine thomas and anthony chambers, terrance o'bryant, traylon shead, daniel marsh and everyone else mentoined and he's on that level. I don't like Hardin, never have and never will because I'm from HD and grew up loving to hate them. With that being said, Villamez is really good and can play strong safety or OLB at the next level. Come watch him play when he's healthy and then base ur arguments off that. I don't know if he'll get a big school offer, but he can play on that level.

    Well said sir....

I agree, that was well said....and to be said by a "rival" is meaningful!.. I have never seen MV play but it is hard to understand why anyone would be so negative about a young man's chances unless it is pure jealousy.

I live in west Texas. Two of the biggest rivals of teams I followed for years  have been Wiley in 3A and Jim Ned in 2A. That being said I am VERY proud of former players from those teams that are now playing in college (Colt McCoy at Texas and Case Keenum at University of Houston).  They represent the Districts and they represent our area.

When any young man or women gets a chance to get a scholarship, whether it be in sports or academics should be applauded and encouraged, not put down.  We should be proud of  young people's accomplishments even if they do not come from our schools.

Mitch I hope you do get you chance to use you God given talents in college.

    God Bless

  15. Oh and lets please not compare this kid to Colt McCoy... LOL Mitch isnt Heisman potential! LOL

Not saying he is.....the point is that all these people saying that because he is from a small school that it automatically rules him out.  That is not so.  Don't know where he will end up but some people just like to put other people down.  Maybe it makes them feel bigger.  I feel sorry for those who live like that.

Sorry, I know you were not doing that but it gets old.

  16. back to villemez about his attitude. yea off the field he can be alright...sometimes but when he is on the field its like he cares nothing but what he does. and all those schools it doesnt matter how good them and yall think he might be but when it comes to school work he aint the best. so i'd like to see him get a scholarship but with his brains aint going to get him anywhere. a big D1 college classes are a whole lot harder than a small town school that everybody loves football and will pass him so he can play

Duh, you really think college is harder than a small high school......You think!!!!!  You don't think that every student going to college does not realize that it well be tougher.  Did MV ever claim to be the top student in the class? You have not only  tried to put him down, but you have called EVERY teacher that has been or is presently teaching him of being dishonest and being cheaters.  It sounds like the one with the biggest attitude problem in YOU!  Grow up.

  17. no offence to anyone on here but for yall to think this kid is good enough to play at major D1's like those schools that were mentioned yall are crazy. He is a good 2A player and a good kid, but he is no where near that level. to me he isn't much better than the back from HD last year and he is not as good as the back WH had a few years ago i think in 06. and neither one of those kids are playing at major colleges

If he is not good enough to play at a D1 school, why is he getting letters and visits for  those D1 schools????????  Are you saying they don't know what they are doing?
