  1. Honestly, yall all know how you throw backhanded shade at my son because you dont like me. It is what it is, he has worked his tail off to pursue a dream that he had since he was very little and that takes guts, which is something most folks dont have. I have worked with him since he could walk, so he was home grown which makes folks even more mad. Add to that, that I made videos like any proud Dad would and it made/makes pansies even madder. At the end of the day, if anyone was to ever ask themselves why they hate me and maybe him, they wouldn't be able to give an honest instance where we did them any wrong. We have always treated folks like we want to be treated, I have just told him to never worry about fitting inside the box people have designed for you. You do you with a good heart and let them adjust! The loudest boos come from the cheapest seats!
  2. Down play him all you want, its expected on here. I believe Wrinkle is a great player too and I have bragged on him all season. At the same time I have seen them every game and how defenses played them. They were a 1, 2 punch that will surely be missed. Teams picked their poison and gambled on the other all season. I would have been extremely happy for Wrinkle had he won MVP, great young man and great teammate. We will not replace him, we will only be able to try to find ways to make up for his absence. I dont agree Sells was more deserving, but that is why we are entitled to our own opinions. I stated the facts previously for why I feel the votes seem to always go to Kountze in some sort of way. I guess I could dig up OF stats from the year before Ghost was a Freshman to see who he replaced in the lineup as a starter and on the team, see where they finished in District? Playoffs? I wonder if they were real good players? I wonder if you all bragged on how great they are and how terrible we'd be without them? I'm not real sure honestly, but I know we had 29 wins last year 3rd Rd exit, 33 wins this year 3rd Rd exit. Ghost probably didnt have much to do with any of those wins though.
  3. Also, they went two more rounds. That is why the seeding game was so important and neither team wanted to flip the coin. The path at 1 was much better than 2. You either play Hitchcock 5th Rd, or 3rd.
  4. Voting happened before any Playin or Playoff Games the week District ended. District matchups are all that was considered. Kountze didnt win the DC. They won seeding for the Playoffs. Kountze and Orangefield split the DC as Co-District Champions.
  5. Orangefield's Coach Whitmire deserved to be Coach Of The Year. He was a new coach with a new team that lost 7 Seniors the year before. The same 7 Seniors that some on here referred to as the "Most Dominant Senior Class Ever In Orangefield". Most on here projected us to finish 3rd or 4th in the district after last season. Coach Whit did return Scales and Wrinkle the previous year teams 2nd and 3rd leading scorers but he didnt have the depth that Joubert had or any impactful move ins (legitimate or not) that Kountze did. With all of that being considered, Whitmire coached Orangefield to a their first Co-District championship since 1954, two big tournament wins, Orangefield's All Time Winningest Record (33-6), and the 3rd Round of the Playoffs (not known at the time of voting). All of this with 70% of his scoring coming from two players (Scales & Wrinkle). That is coaching at it's finest in Texas H.S. Basketball. Jaden "Ghost" Scales deserved to win "MVP" and not just "Offensive MVP". For all of the same above mentioned reasons, as well as putting up MVP numbers throughout the season on extremely efficient percentages and outplaying (Scales had 21 in the loss, 26 in the win) Sells in both District Matchups. The third Kountze/Orangefield - Playin Game was played after the District Meeting where voting took place. Even in that game, it was obvious who was believed to be the most dangerous player on the floor, and limiting Ghost's touches proved successful for Kountze because we didnt have enough fire power without him. With that being said, to me it is obvious who the most valuable player to their team was by how they were guarded and other teams chose to play them. Ghost was robbed again, just like last year when NOTY was given to Kountze instead of Ghost when he torched them in both meetings as a freshman when his counterpart's numbers were nowhere close to his. I can't honestly tell that story without also saying the MVP was given to Sells last year as well. So, both MVP and NCOTY went to a team last year that needed a Playin Game to make the playoffs. Perrault from EC (Best player on #1 Team) should have been MVP last year and Scales (2nd Leading Scorer on #2 Team) should have been Newcomer Of The Year - IMO Don't get me wrong, Joubert is a great coach and Sells is a great player, that I have nothing but love for. However, it seems they are able to have their cake and eat it too though. You can have a homegrown freshman (NCOTY) and move-ins (legitimate or whatever) that we all turn a blind eye to and watch you go from 4th to 1st, or you can be viewed as the best Coach and player in the District because you took your team so far without as much help. Watching the full swing of both arguments to benefit Kountze in the last two years isn't the easiest sell to me or many others on here and elsewhere. As always though, I am just the only one to say it. That's ok though, doing what is right is more important to me than doing what is popular. Congratulations to all of the kids and Coaches who were recognized this year though! The voting this year was much closer to where it should be than it was last year by a long shot.
  6. Yeah he was a killer then too and it didnt fit the narrative folks wanted then either. Glad you are happy he wanted to come back home, we are too! Plus, it lets yall move on to baseball as soon as Playoffs start for the other schools.
  7. You have so much to say on a message board under a made up username, why dont you come introduce yourself to me at the game since you are there? Refs can be turned in to chapters for behavior violations even though I have never done it. The scout sitting next to me, knew the ref very well. No Kangaroo Court here. When I say, "talking to my son", its things like, "youre good bud, stay in there, it will be alright, keep doing what you are doing, God is watching etc...." Ref came over to me and went from there. Ask anyone who sits anywhere around me what I say to not only my son but any of the kids or the love that is shown. I have never done anything to disrespect Coach Whitmire or Coach Mcdonald when he was here, but since I was the one in the driveway and on the court with him since he could walk, Im going to always speak to him and encourage him like any parent would. Its just magnified because of the player he is and everyone including the officials know Ill be courtside at halfcourt. Not hard to figure out. And yes thank you, Orangefield has had a fantastic season and we couldnt be more proud of the boys and their coaches. We will have to play our absolute best to beat Hitchcock and continue on, but WE BELIEVE
  8. I was the Orangefield Fan mentioned, and I think its's obvious that I will stand up for kids anytime there is a need and always have. He wanted to feel like he was in control while he did his best to cheat the kids and coaches and literally came over to where I was while me and my son were talking. What he was doing was blatant and obvious. I am always courtside with a camera, so Im pretty sure he backed off knowing everything he said or did could be proven. Furthermore, had a scout sitting next to me that knew the official very well. He knew everything he was doing had valid witnesses to it. I can't stand cowardly, lying, cheating people, who spread ill will and discontent. Add to that, they are willing to go at kids who deserve better, and I'll 100% of the time stand between those kids and the fire.
  9. Yes sir, it makes it tough when the refs aren't consistent on both ends.
  10. I promise I mean this with all due respect, but this is the kind of play I was referencing. Its not a hard reach to believe that teams that press and play physically throughout would find themselves in foul trouble. I realize you guys feel the foul calling in this game was a little excessive, but it does illustrate the discrepancy in officiating when the rules are the same for all of the games. Oddly enough, it came to light during the next game. If your pressure equates to turnovers, turnovers to points, then you should be able to be up by so much late in the game that the gamble on fouls that you took early, would still pay off by controlling the pace/clock. If a team is able to handle the pressure and keep it close, then the foul count/free throw count should benefit that team because they would have less fouls due to their style of play. With that being said, I understand the game plan and just like @BBfan061 said, every team has to adjust to the way the refs are calling the game. Consistency has to be on the rules of the game on both ends, not on the foul count itself because that doesnt take into account the styles of play from each team. With all of that being said, CONGRATULATIONS TO YOU GUYS ON ANOTHER BIG WIN! We will be pulling for yall until we hopefully see you again!
  11. Sounds like you were there and I appreciate your honesty. I have said nearly identically what you just stated here previously, but all of the cowardly crap stirrers wanted to run with it and dispute what the game plan was all the way down to acting yall ran some kind of a soft zone against us or something, which we ALL know isn't true. I respect Joubert's Game Plan to limit Ghost's touches and wear him down. I'd do the same if it was me. Finding ways to win is part of the game and we came up short this time. Once again, thank you for stating the facts and well wishes, we will pulling for you guys too!
  12. Who are you referring to?
  13. Thank you and I would love to see that too!
  14. No one is complaining about the physicality of the game and we welcome it. We have been in AAU and on the Circuit since he was 8 and he played up every year! We just want consistency with calls on both ends of the floor, not ticky tack on one end and then a blatant disregard for the other end. As far as kids getting in his face and acting like they want to fight, well that is every game and it is always some scrub trying to earn some stripes in front of their own team. They are just selling wolf tickets, and we know they aren't real! It is never the star athletes from any team trying to start mess, because they have nothing to prove. It is always the no count scrubs every time whose name has never even made a scouting report. We actually appreciate all the crap though, it just fuels the fire for the offseason! BTW, thanks for the well wishes on my sleep. I really don't sleep very well these days.
  15. Face guarded Scales as soon as they came out of their timeout when we were up 10/0 and would send help over when he had the ball. Zone for the other 4 defenders. Box and 1 really and you know it. You were there, dont act like they werent holding his jersey and pushing him all night!
  16. I've never Coached any of my players to bank on our points at the foul line being how we'd win a game. However, I have Coached my son to go at particular players to get them in foul trouble because they wouldnt be able to stay in front of him. We have been doing that since he was very young and it has worked more times than not. However, you do need a clean called game to make that strategy work. Hard to win when a teams best players are on the bench in foul trouble or fouled out. It's Chess not Checkers. As far as whoever you think my buddy is; I dont know anyone on this thread that has said anything nice about my son or his teammates. When folks are nice and wish to remain anonymous, I thank them and leave it at that.
  17. If you are going to address me, then tag me. Refs - I simply made an obvious assessment of the fact that my son never even got to foul line all night even though he was fouled repeatedly, hand checked, blocked, and pushed all why we are in the bonus. Sells made it to the line more than our entire team's free throw count which totaled to be 7 in Game 3. Kountzes Runs - We were up double digits to zero in the first quarter at start of the game, which could have helped us through the Kountze runs. With that being said, Your math in bold above shows a score of 53 -14. We got our other 39 points during the same game. Orangefield's Supporting Cast - They put up 27 of the 35 I said we needed and were led by Thomas with 14. They were 8 shy and we lost by 9. I said all along that Kountze would come out; face-guard and double Ghost like they did during the 2nd half of Game 2 and now all the way through Game 3. It is good defensive strategy on Coach Jouberts part and I dont blame him at all. It's what Id have done if I was playing us as well. Who wouldn't? Ghost torched yall in Games 1 & 2 with fg's and assists not ft's. He had 21 & 26 with only 7 total free throw attempts for both games. Taking him out of the game and disrupting our offense is smart defensive strategy, but it also means that you should have to live with picking up more fouls which is what happened during Game 2. We just didnt get those calls in Game 3, so it is what it is. It's a sport and always a gamble. Orangefield's Horses As You Put It - I've said all season that our ceiling was every bit as high as Kountze, but we are nowhere near as deep. That shouldn't be news to anyone. Yall have bench players that would start at other schools in our district! No shots taken here, that is a great luxury to have. We have to run our horses in the ground against a team like yall. Scales Having 12 Points In The Last 6 Quarters - I've already said it was good defensive strategy to take my son out of the game, and that I would've done the same, so yes hats off to Kountze for having a plan and executing. We absolutely should be doing more to free him up with downscreens, motion, etc when teams choose to play him that way because he is such a big part to the flow of our offense. At the same time, Coach Whitmire addresses those types of things with the boys, but heat of the moment decisions and basketball IQ isn't the same in all players at the Varsity Level. I'm sure we will have to implement some things to help free him up and I couldn't be more happy with our entire Coaching Staff and what they do with our boys. Did You Know? - Last year Ghost had 21 & 25 through Games 1 & 2 of the Playoffs as a 120lb. freshman. Hitchcock was sitting in the stands during Game 2 and literally face-guarded him from the opening tip during Game 3 and only allowed him 5 touches throughout the game. He was scoreless with no attempts from the foul line and even though we were up by 1 going into the 4th, we lost by 10. FACTS - COACHES CHOOSE TO TAKE HIM OUT OF THE GAME AND SEE IF THE OTHERS CAN BEAT THEM. ITS STRATEGY, AND ALLOWS OTHERS TO THINK THEY ARE OPEN OR ARE ONLY SEEING MINIMAL COVERAGE. IF THOSE PLAYERS CAPATALIZE ON THAT KIND OF COVERAGE, THEN IT FREES GHOST BACK UP. IF NOT OR AT LEAST NOT TO THE LEVEL NEEDED TO ACCOUNT FOR HIS POINT PRODUCTION, THEN WE LOSE!!! Not Rocket Science here bro! We will do better and this team is a true team of brothers, that apologize to each other for mistakes made and look out for each other. They have a real joy playing together and it has been an honor to watch them all year! They can pull together and do big things like they did in Game 2 and we believe in them, which is all I have ever said from the beginning. #webeleive
  18. My kid doesn't carry himself poorly on the floor or anywhere else. We worry about what kind of human beings we are before we worry about what kind of athlete he is. Everyone can say whatever but whats done is done and we are on to the playoffs, just like they are. Hope to see them again in a few weeks, until then we will honestly be pulling for them!
  19. How many free throws did Sells shoot? How many free throws did Scales shoot?
  20. In a 9 point game, 8 free throws is huge especially when your teams best free throw shooter gets probably 15 of those, while the other teams best free throw shooter gets zero attempts from the line. This crap isn't hard to figure out and we shouldn't make it that way! Funny how folks get amnesia and only tell parts of what they saw last night.
  21. You were there, why do you tell it like you didnt see the truth? How many of those free throws were Sells? How many were Scales?
  22. It came down to fouling the heck out of Scales the entire game and he never getting even one attempt from the foul line. There were several calls that they made on the floor only because he finished what would have been an " And 1 Basket" or he passed it off which would have been an open layup. They made sure to take the points away! Those refs knew exactly what they were doing and it was obvious. Everyone can sit on here and act like they didnt see it because there are so many on here in love with Kountze basketball being good again regardless of how they got there, but anybody who really knows the game knows the truth. Adults who cheat kids, are pieces of crap and are ruining the game! Everyone is going to say, "The foul count was nearly even" - Think about it, Kountze presses and plays physical the entire game, the foul count shouldn't even be close and there will never be any logical reason that Kountze would have more free throw attempts than Orangefield! Oh well, this is the path the good Lord wanted for us, so we will gladly take it! They did everything I said they would do, we just couldn't collect the fouls on them since the refs didnt call a fair game! On to Woodville Tuesday night
