I remember this game last year having a bunch of anticipation to it. Orangefield was supposed to be good and Anahuac was supposed to be good….and both teams did very well in district. Orangefield pulled it out. They are the incumbent district champs. They proved to the whole area last week that Buna was not ready to make the next step. I think Orangefield understands the path to winning in this smaller district.  A couple of weeks ago , I would have said Anahuac. They got a good coach and good athletes. However , only 13 points on Hardin and Orangefield putting up 42 last week tells me the bobcats are back home in this district. They are after all the reigning district champs.  Until someone beats them in this district, I can’t  in good faith pick against them. Bobcats win in what I expect to be a district championship game and atmosphere Friday night.

The score wasn’t an indicator of how well Hardin played. Their offense is a lot like Orangefields from last year. That run attack that chews up the clock. I think Anahuac only had a handful of possessions in the 2nd half, yet gave zero scores up. It was a boxing match.

With that, I haven’t seen OF yet but if they have the same offense as they did last year then AP will need to figure out how to stop that run attach so they can control the clock. If OF controls the time of possession, then I’m leaning OF.

If they couldn’t slow down Orangefields run game (No offense to Orangefield) then they are gonna have a rough night come game time vs Franklin

I will say this - they held them to 25 points while only putting up 15 points, they averaged +40 this year. Their main offensive weapon didn’t play and they had horrible play calling with only deep fade passes for the first half, zero run game. It was a strange game. OF piles up the yards but it easily could have been an AP win if they were playing with a full deck. That’s why I feel this is going to be an interesting game tomorrow night.

  3. Normally I would have zero hope for an upset but this AP team is just built different. They are healthy and have played well against ranked teams this year.  It’s all on the defense, their offense will keep up as always. They have to make some stops. AP will be ready, this isn’t the only opponent they have faced who run that kind of offense. Orangefield does the same thing and AP lost to them this year. It was a strange game tbh, corbitt didn’t play and their offense was one dimensional - kept airing it deep with no ability to do play action. Didn’t try any mid level passes really, that loss was on the coaching not the players that game.

I think they will be ready.

AP needs to learn how to score in the 2nd half.

I think it’s intentional to some degree. To show respect to the other team/coach. It would be very easy for this team to run up the score for stats but coach Neece isn’t that kind of guy. Better to lay off and limit injuries instead of padding stats.

  5. I think to be fair, people are saying he has the potential of beings top tier QB within the years to come, not at this very moment. His ceiling is high.

Im a local obviously. The throws he makes, the accuracy, the pure arm strength, is something I have never seen - especially from a freshmen. I was a part of the group of kids that finally got to taste success in Anahuac, the last time before that was back in the 90s. We made the playoffs, it felt great and we played well. These boys, this qb, is playing at a level far beyond anything that resembles highs school football especially from the QB position. We were middle school football compared to this.

The future is bright for this team and this QB. I can’t wait to see what he does as a Junior and Senior.

Anyone remember Drew Tate? People were traveling across the state just to see him set records. This is the atmosphere Anahuac will have in the next few years regarding Brady Barrier.

Anahuac is much better than anyone is giving them credit for. They hung tight for three quarters with a Newton team who has a win over WOS this season, and handily beat the #9 team in the state, New Waverly, a couple of weeks ago. I expect them to roll through this district and by November, they will have garnered some attention state wide. Playoffs are always a crap shoot so we will see how that goes, but this is the beginning of the ascension for the Panthers. They have a Freshman QB, who may very well be the best QB in that district, and several sophomore skill players who are playing like seasoned vets. If you are a Panther fan, expect many deep runs and potential AT&T visits in the next 4 years.

AP did it without their All-State senior running back too. And they are plagued by penalties each week. They were tri-district champs last year and now they have a legit QB who will be playing on Saturdays, and that analysis is based on him as a FRESHMEN. Before week 5 he had just under 1000 yards, 11 TDs 1 int. So my point is now they have an offense that can be carried by their star running back or now by their QB.
