@TxHoops that is a hard Jab at Connell calling him a kid. He is far from that but if you actually knew as much as you thought you did you would know they're about the same age as @gogo173489 stated. I had let this topic go after my last post because I really do hope Coach Johnson does well and I will always give someone a fair go at it. To address only 2 candidates that was because the only place BunaISD posted the jobs to my understanding was their website. I've been told the job did not get posted to any of the other coaching sites where coaches find jobs. To me this is a problem that BISD needs to fix to get a more competitive field or it was done because the job was already a done deal. Again and I will say it again, we now have Coach Johnson and hope he does great.

@TxHoops obviously your a huge fan of Coach Johnson and hopefully you are right. But honestly his 6-51 experience with his second year not showing any improvement from the first year, how do you get a head coaching job. You figure he would be committed to righting the ship at Chilton or maybe getting an assistant job to figure out what is not working. Connell does not have experience yet but there is only one way for him to get it and whoever gives him that first chance will not be disappointed. Orange field boys job is now open which is in our district, its hard for me to believe that he would get an interview with a 6-51 record. Like it or not part of coaching is winning. Don't get me wrong our program has not been head and shoulders above everyone else but we have consistently put a competitive team together that makes the playoffs. But there is nothing wrong with us wanting a young man that is from here and has given his heart and soul to this town. What's wrong with our own kids graduating going off, playing college ball, coming home and taking over the program they are from. It happens all the time in the college ranks, some high school but for some reason here in Buna we don't hire our own unless they are from a select group of families. Lastly and I am moving on, I hope Coach Johnson does a great job and we're going to show him support.

@TxHoops you act Lamar is Duke, UNC or some great program. Taking a coach from Lamar is not always a step up. So to be fair when speaking about Tic Price being third, it is not that he was that good at 112-113 it is everyone else was really bad. Again a nice guy is great when talking about someone courting my daughter, or just being a friend. Our point is with his record without a hookup he would not even get his foot in the door. Connell got the raw end of the deal here. We're still going to support our Lady Cougars no matter who is on the sideline but it was a lot easier if they made the right hire.

@gogo173489 last time I checked there are 7 people on a school board that can get involved. I guess they didn't have a girl on the team or didn't do their research on this candidate. If I were a coach and applied for a job with this type of record I wouldn't get a call back. This had to be a complete hookup.

@Mr. Buddy Garrity I believe he is from the area where he came from which is around Waco. He did GA for Tic Price at Lamar and we know how that went as well. Everyone is saying he is a really good guy but his coaching record says he is not a good coach. Small town politics got involved here and ousted another hometown guy. I'm hoping for the best and nothing against Coach Johnson just mad that we did not give our own the opportunity. I see the whole Connell family from the dad to the youngest working with kids around here with basketball all the time. The dad coached a girls team in Little Dribbles this past season when no one would step up to do it. Sad that our own students cant go off get an education and come back to coach unless they're from the right families. Only winner here is the school that Coach Johnson came from.

I was told he was a GA with Price at Lamar. Also his stepdad is the Sup where he is coming from and knows current Sup here. I thought we would go with more experience. If we went with the young candidate we should have went with our own Connell or at least make them play each other for it 😆😂. Also hearing Connell will be leaving to be an assistant somewhere else. Hopefully not true but I would say I can’t blame him.

OF has a chance in a low scoring game. If this game gets into the mid 60’s or higher that favors Hitchcock. That being said Hitchcock by 13.

Orangefield will take this but will be close going into 4th quarter. I got OF by 13 but close going into the 4th.

Buna was cold tonight and CH hit shots in the 4th. Cougars made a good run the past few weeks. Going to miss Connell and this senior group. Coach Wilson did a good job in his first year.

Got to see both games this week. Difference was Buna adjusted from the first time and Kountze didn’t. Buna kept doubling 5 all night to make someone else beat them. #10 had me thinking that he was going to carry the load but Buna’s inside was too much in the end. Does anyone know how much 5 ended up with and what he is averaging on the year?

@Knox34 he did against Warren I believe and close on Buna. However, I think getting 40 against Warren is different than Ragusa's 40 against Kountze.

Offensively this district has a lot of good players but the only one that I have seen play both sides of the ball, night in and night out is Perrault. To me he is the MVP, Ragusa is offensive player of the year because what he just did to Kountze twice head to head, most recently scoring 40.

I actually think both are really good coaches. Both have different styles and personalities but from what I have seen the kids play hard for both of them. Personally after last season I didn't think we would be that competitive losing 3 starters and an average JV squad. They are actually better than what I thought they were going to be. That being said I guarantee they are a team that no one wants to play.

@Knox34 we have had some characters on our board that too often are in it for their specific family. However, I do not think they had the power to run off Coach Whitmire. They may have talked some trash but everyone that matters around here knows he is a good coach and man. Remember our girls coach left as well who was is a good coach and man, it may have done less with the board and more with who the AD was.

Buna is having to play in an always tough district where each night anyone could beat anyone. Coach Whitmire did a great job here in Buna but he decided to leave on his own. Talked to him this past summer and he said he wanted something new. 2013/2014 season was the last time we haven't made it and I believe the next year we started getting Connells in the program. I do not know who we will miss more, Whitmire or Connells after the youngest one graduates this year.

Kountze will be tough at home tonight. Sells is the best player in the district and his supporting cast has grown up quick. Will Anahuac be able to close out this year when it matters. This may be the most competitive district in the Golden Triangle where the top 5 can beat anyone any given night.

EC had to use a different chapter so they didn’t get the calls they were use to. They’re a good team but in their chapter they become a great team.

Great job Coach, you did a great job and definitely left it better than you received it. I would think the applicant pool will be bigger or smaller depending on the direction the school admin/board wants the offense to be. Remember Vidor some in WOS wanted change and look what they got. Old saying a boss use to tell me is "You want it bad, sometimes you get it bad". Good Luck Vidor.

First game I saw this year. Cougars fought hard to get back into this with Anahuac making a play in the end. Connell for Buna is the real deal and was the best on the court all night. Real question is can Buna beat Kountze in Kountze, I don't know if they can after what I saw last night. Kountze is probably going to return the favor from this past football season.

All of the energy toward Buna running up the score needs to stop. Kountze fans need to start asking what they need to do to get better. If a complaint is going to be sent in, it should not be on a team that has won 3 games in the last 2 years. Now Kountze will probably return the favor in basketball.
