Bridge City has 3 right now that have signed.

Cameron Dishon (CF) inked to play for Ole' Miss

Matt Menard (C) inked to play for Baylor

Jake Lemoine (P) inked to play for Houston

That's 3 D1 prospects on one team...... Pretty amazing if you ask me.

Not to mention Zach Smith who has committed to Angelina already.
2. I know the parent in question here.  He probably stopped to use the bathroom or stopped for a Biggio autograph.  Honestly, if Kelly wanted to send a spy, he would not be at the top of the list of candidates.  Stupid move by the parent to take it upon himself to stop at a practice, then identify himself, given the success this team has had thus far.  As others have posted, turned out to be a moot point as Kelly got drubbed that week.
3. As part of their punishment, the grounds crew, who tirelessly works to keep the field in shape, ought to get a crack at them before anyone else does.  I agree with westend, don't make it a life changer (jail time), but punishment needs to be enforced.  People forget, someone is busting their rear end to keep the facilities in shape, regardless of whether they get paid to do so.
4. Kelly returns every starter from last year.  Infield: Warner, Talbot, Steinhagen, Morrow, Darling.  Outfield: Falgout, Cupero, Messina, Barber.  Brenton Schwaab behind the plate.  All returning lettermen.

Pitching depth will be the challenge for Kelly.  Warner, Steinhagen, Darling will be the main starters on the mound.  Falgout and Cupero also may see some mound time.

Kelly has a few Sophs who may see some time, as well as a number of good incoming freshmen who may also work in a few games at varsity.

Why is everyone giving this guy a hard time? He is putting kids in front of scouts, not an easy thing to do.
Agree 100%.  Why are people so quick to shoot holes in a guy trying to help out local kids?  Might the costs paid help defray the costs of bringing all these scouts in?  In case you haven't heard, the State of Texas, along with many other states, are cutting the budgets of most universities.  Which directly impacts athletic budgets.  So to get a gathering of all these scouts, maybe he has to offer to pay some of their expenses?  The "what's in it for him" is that by gathering all these scouts, maybe he can get a full combine, so he can scout players for his college.

Funny how so many people are quick to take credit for a kids success on this board.  But criticize those who legitimately give a kid opportunities.  DaBears-if people listened to you, no one would get recruited.  Just send out e-mails and wait for them to come to your high school game? (perhaps a high school coach?)  Insane.  To get recruited today, not only do you have to have talent, you have to be seen.  Being seen today, means being in the right place at the right time.  Unless you have a kid on your high school team throwing low 90's or an athlete who is a legit 5 tool player, or be playing against one of these types of players, you won't get seen just by playing high school ball.  Of the 2011 class who signed on to play college ball, very few did it by just playing high school ball.  They were seen with their select team playing in a summer tournament, they were seen at a college prospect camp, they were seen at one of these combines, they were seen at one of the Monday night games that Fackler runs, and they were seen at a Perfect Game, or simlar camp.  In order to be seen, you need to attend these combines, you need to go to as many college prospect camps as possible, you need to get on a summer team that travels to college venues, or close to college venues.  All of which, cost money.  As a parent, you have to determine if the benefit out weighs the cost.

There isn't one magic bullet to being seen, then ultimately getting a scholarship.  It is a long and arduous process that involves a little luck and a lot of hard work.  Coach Harrington is simply giving kids another option to "being seen".  Is that so bad?

6. Congratulations to Brett Brown and the Brown family for verbally committing today, to pitch for the Lamar Cardinal baseball team.  Brett will be a senior at Nederland High School this upcoming year, then join the Cardinals in fall of 2012.

Also congrats to Coaches Gilligan, Ricklefsen, and Hatten for recruiting a great player, and an even better young man to the Cardinal family.

Jeff and Nikki, I am so proud for you guys too!  Been a long road, I know. DM
7. Why do you all feel the need to rub this guy into the dirt?

1.  He is the head coach, not the only coach.  He is surrounded by guys who have the experience.  Those of you requiring your coach to have varsity experience, why?  He is not suiting up.  His assistant coaches and coordinators call their part of the game.  Head coach manages key decisions during the game.  Will he make mistakes? Absolutley.  But I have seen some of the most experienced coaches, in all sports, make rookie mistakes.

2.  Athletic Director at Kelly is not brain surgery.  With 400 students at Kelly, Hartsfield came from a school of similar size.  The number of sports at Kelly is not so overwhelming that Hartsfield cannot manage it.  Furthermore, its not like Kelly has been a perrenial powerhouse in athletics.  They have not gone far into the playoffs in recent years in football, baseball, or basketball.  Soccer is their most successful sport over the past 3-4 years. Coach Arrondale is still there.  Hartsfield has a trememendous opportunity to make his mark on the program immediately.

3.  He has 12 years of experience in the private/Catholic school culture and system.  He knows how to navigate around the Diocese of Beaumont school system and whom to reach out to , in order to get what he wants.  Not only does he know all the players on the field, he knows all the players who run the school.  Big plus, for those of you who have never participated in a Catholic school setting within the Diocese of Beaumont.

4. He has hit the ground running.  He is in the process of hiring a new baseball coach and adding to his football staff.

Is the right guy for the job?  Only time will tell.  But give the guy a break.  He is getting pounded on this board and he has yet to have a practice.  For the sake of his family, the parents and the football players he serves, please cut him a little slack.

Any leading candidate for the Baseball position?
I know Sam Moore applied for the job and met with Coach Long.  However, with the new AD, who knows.

If Hartsfield wanted to make a strong statement, early, he would hire a baseball guy, with deep local roots, and a history of baseball success.  Like Sam.

By and large, Kelly has good coaches in all their sports.  But the baseball opening is a great opportunity for the new AD to make a statement and put his mark on the school's athletics.
9. Clearly, the school/booster club wanted someone to hit the ground running, as Kelly has 17 returning starters from last year.  Many of whom, are seniors.  There is not time to get a new system up and running, or have an outsider become familiar with his talent.  Hartsfield has run this system with these players before.  Also, he has worked closely with the Kelly program and is familiar with the school/athletic system within the Diocese.  Lastly, he still has many of the assistants from last year to help him out, should he get in over his head temporarily.

Good choice for a program who's time is now.

ttt....from march 31st.  Seems the Haynes/Long/Kelly converstions have been going on for roughly 3 months.  I'm sure someone at Kelly would take exception with the fact that Long has been talking about leaving this long and hasn't informed anyone.

Of course, all this is speculation, but where there is smoke.......
Actually, I think a number of Kelly people were aware of his desire to end his career in the public school system, so he could qualify for TRS retirement.  Perhaps, just not now, given his returning class is a strong one on both sides of the ball.  Plus the freshman class coming in to Kelly next fall will be an athletic one in several sports.

I can't remember if it was last year or the year before, he was one of the candidates who applied for the Orangefield job.  So we were aware he was on the lookout.
11. Congratulations to the following SE Texas Gladiators players who qualified for the Southern College Prep League All-Star game:

Zach Drouillard - LCM
Brett Brown - Nederland
Kyle Markum - Hamshire Fannett
Zach Smith - Bridge City
Trent Fontenot - Nederland

These players will represent SE Texas as a member of the West squad.  The game is scheduled for Saturday night at 7:00PM at Acadian Ball Park, New Iberia, LA.  All SCPL players are also invited to particpate in a scouting combine that was moved to Saturday morning, due to rain.  The combine will begin at 10AM.

The game is also supposed to be broadcast on the web: www.acadianasports.com beginning at 7PM.

Congrats to these 5 young men as their hard work and dedication is paying off!
12. Sam Moore - Coach

Roster
Kyle Markum - HF
Dalton Richardson - WestBrook
Colby Sciarilla - Vidor
Zach Smith - Bridge City
Trent Fontenot - Nederland
Adam Morrow - Kelly
Daniel Sparrow - PNG
Brett Brown - Nederland
Preston Pittman - Bridge City
Hayden Guidry - Bridge City
Kohl Lasell - Nederland
Zach Drouillard - LCM
Mitchell Hubbard- Bridge City
Colby Jenkins - Silsbee
Montana Garcia - Silsbee
Matt Perdue - Jasper
Shea Richards - LCM
Dillon Young - LCM

With the exception of Markum, all 2012/2013 grads.  We are playing against mostly 2010 and 2011 grads.  Might take a few lumps early, but we are competing very well so far.  In the long run, better competition will improve the players. The SCPL schedule is 25 games (1/2 home, 1/2 away).  Plus All-Star game and playoffs.  This team is also playing in the Rice University Tournament, July 4 weekend, plus a Lamar Tourney, and the Texas Showcase League 17U and 18U World Series in July.  Over 40 games for the summer. We have 13 pitchers, plus numerous guest pitchers available, so arms should stay fresh.  Also, league is a BBCOR/wood only league, so players are getting head start on next season, with BBCOR bats.  Good experience for the team.
13. The Southern College Prep League had its opening weekend this past weekend, with local entry, SE Texas Gladiators dropping the Friday game and splitting the Saturday doubleheader with District 5 team from Ruston, LA.  The Gladiators were without four Bridge City Cardinal players (Guidry, Hubbard, Smith, and Pittman) and Kyle Markum and Daniel Sparrow this weekend.  Even with the short staff, the Gladiators were competitive against a team of 20 mostly graduated seniors and 3-4 college players.  Gladiators lost the opening night to Ruston, 9-4, as LSU-Eunice freshman Jared Dye pitched a gem against the younger Gladiators.  Glads won the opening game of the Saturday doubleheader 6-3, then lost the back-end game 12-7 as the short staff and fatigue caught up to the Glads.  For the weekend, Zach Drouillard (LCM) lead the Gladiators with a .625 average (5 for 8, 4 RBI's), and Montana Garcia
(4 for 10, 5 runs scored, 3 RBI) and Colby Jenkins (both of Silsbee) followed behind with a .400 average on the weekend.  Montana Garcia was the defensive star in centerfield, tracking down numerous balls and having 5 assists on the weekend, nailing one player at the plate in Game 1.  Pitching leaders were Brett Brown (Nederland), who started the Saturday game and gave up one earned run, had 3 K's in 4 innings pitched.  Kohl Lasell (Nederland) followed Brett with 3 solid innings pitched, gave up one hit and no runs, with 4 K's in 3 innings pitched, getting the win.  All games were played at LA Tech University field.

The Southern College Prep League is in its inaugural season.  It is comprised of 8 Texas and Louisiana teams.  The format is similar to a college format, where teams play a mid week, 2 game series, then a weekend series comprised of a Friday night game and then a Saturday doubleheader.  The week games are 9 -inning games and the weekend doubleheaders are 7-inning games.  Each team takes BP and infield/outfield prior to each game.  There will be a mid-season All-Star game with a year-end college type playoff.  It is a great format for area high school players to be seen by colleges and also experience a college-type game structure.  The Gladiators next game is this Tuesday and Wednesday at Bullet Baseball.  We will have home games in the future, we will keep everyone updated.  For more information on the league, go to www.scplbaseball.com.
