  1. Changing that culture! Can't understand why anyone wouldn't be happy?
  2. It does happen at other places, but the volume of transfers in such a short period of time is pretty telling. A big part of participating in athletics is cultivating qualities such as hard work, perseverance, loyalty, etc. The new HF regime would rather bring in the ringers and just "block out the noise" than actually build the program. I believe winning is important, but not at the expense of the rules. While I think local coaches are aware of what's going on, I'd expect this trend to be addressed from within HF ISD. And I think it will happen sooner than later.
  3. So sad to lose a legend and an icon!
  4. I feel like Jasper basketball does this every year. They show a ton of promise early and implode late. No shame losing to Hudson, though. They can play.
  5. Be real. #2 is a transfer. #4 is a transfer. The JV kid is a transfer. There will be more next year. There has always been talent in this community, but it's being recruited over for Beaumont/SBG kids. Guess who coached at both those places? Tigee Rideaux is a good coach of basketball. He just doesn't follow the rules that the majority of high school coaches follow and HF is going to get hurt by it.
  6. What is the situation in this district? PA and Nederland playing for first. What's 3rd and 4th look like?
  7. For a team with an overrated coach and overrated star player they seem to win a lot of games.
  8. HF as an administration is confusing to me. They're ok with blatant recruiting and shady transfers. Now I'm hearing the Ardoin kid at Tekoa is "moving" there. The big man acts a complete fool at HJ, gets sent to locker room, then I hear he plays the whole game at LCM. I'm glad that whoever made the call to suspend that kid still believes in rules and discipline and not just winning at all costs. HF has been pretty bad in athletics for a while, but at least they used to do things the right way. On the bright side, my referee buddy that was there said no stall ball in this one. Just two offenses that couldn't score.
  9. PNG goes into Cleveland and gets a win!? That is a tough place to go.
  10. I'm a little surprised at how well Silsbee is doing. I thought most Silsbee fans underestimated how much losing McCain, Adams, and Tyler would affect them, but I underestimated how great Braelon Bush really is. Chris Martin, too. Also, surprised that Lumberton played it this tight, but there are no moral victories. On to the second half. How does it play out? Silsbee-HJ round 2? Who finishes 3rd and 4th? I love high school basketball.
  11. So it's looking like Vidor, PNG, BH, and Cleveland for the 3rd and 4th spots? I've got the Hill finishing 3rd and I think PNG wins the rematch with Vidor. Their win over Barbers Hill will be what gets them in.
  12. I was wrong on this one and I'm sure I'll be wrong some more. I may have underestimated the supporting cast at Silsbee.
  13. Nederland matches up fairly well with Memorial. While not as good as PA bigs, Nederland has the size and depth inside to compete with Memorial. And Hefner is maybe a little more than a decoy.
  14. I think you'll see guys like Bush and Martin have a really big game due to Hardin Jefferson's press giving up open 3's and driving lanes. However, I think the rest of Silsbee's team is highly overrated by many on this forum and they will struggle with the pressure. I'll go against the grain and take the deeper, more disciplined team...Hardin Jefferson.
  15. Pretty in depth write up. Who do you think ends up getting in the playoffs from this district?
  16. Anybody who says Pat Abel's teams weren't fundamental or well coached is clueless. They were almost too disciplined and fundamental whereas Chris Smith lets them play with some freedom. Two different philosophies, but neither is wrong. Saying all of that to say this...huge win for the Indians!
  17. Yea, man, shooting is a skill and it can be taught. What's comical is you saying coaches only have the players available to them when the guy you are referring to apparently has all of Beaumont available to him. Work on shooting or do a better job recruiting shooters!
  18. So LCM goes into Lumberton and wins without their starting point guard? That's big for them. I heard they'd lost some kids from last year and early scores showed it. Maybe they are coming around, maybe the district is wacky. Lumberton will be fine. I always like to pull for Josh Mitchell. You can tell he is living and dying with every possession. Some coaches just sit there. Or play stall ball.
  19. That is one of the best game write ups I've ever seen on here. Good job! How did the LCM freshman point guard look? I've heard he has been playing well.
  20. I blame the offense. Good coaches teach their teams how to play against multiple styles of play. A team sitting in zone is no less playing basketball than a team in man. Holding the ball for quarters at a time isn't playing at all and it's non-competitive. Saying that we're not good enough to score against zone so we're not even going to try sends the wrong message. Especially in preseason/tournament games when you should be working on this stuff. However, I think there are situations where it's wise like holding the ball for the last shot of the quarter. I also like how Lincoln used to do it. They'd hold it, draw the defense out, and then carve it up. None of this dribble in and dribble back out crap. Compete!
  21. So who is racist? Is it Orangefield fans or admin? Is it the officials in the game? Is it the people who think Rideaux is breaking rules? And who's making that accusation? I heard it was the coach himself, but I hope not. There are obvious outliers and exceptions, but athletics tend to be a medium where race doesn't matter at all. I wishfully think that kind of accusation is unfounded, however I know it is divisive and dangerous.
  22. I'm kidding. I agree that coaches should coach however they like. But coaches also need to know that if you yell at the kids, the scorer's table, the stands, the refs, etc, you probably don't get to coach at all for very long.
  23. Mike Deane must not have made you guys go to writing classes. Don't know anything about him as a coach, but no way he compares to Gray Giovanni.
  24. Tyler Jackson was named MVP. I love watching a kid's game improve like this one. I wasn't sold on Nederland, but they are looking good right now.
