  1. I have to give it to Daingerfield, you guys are loaded, better by far than anyone we have played this year. You guys are loaded with college talent. I will give it to our guys, after the first quarter most of us realized we were out of our league. We were boy amongst men.Our boys fought to the very end, and I am proud of them for that. I know you have the talent to blow everyone out. I Just hope Daingerfield & Kirbyville win state. Best of luck from Newton fan.
  2. Two traditionally strong programs, both teams are strong, Daingerfield ranked #1 as they should be. I hope the game is as good this year as it was last year, only with a different winner. Go Eagles upset the Tigers. Newton 24-22
  3. Linden has quiet a few atheletes. #7 is college material, #3 I think, their qb is good also. They were a good sound team that we out scored. They are alot better than they get credit for offensively and defensively.
  4. Great post DFIELD 1990 We do respect D-field and their program, coaches and kids, they have earned it. We have to play a very good team  ( Linden- Kildare )out of your district this week. I hope we will win and without anyone from either team being injured. If we win & you win, then we will have earned the right to play each other. We are kinda limping with injuries but I am sure most everyone is bruised-up & wounded by now. You won last year and I backed you guys all the way. Classey programs with Newton & Daingerfield.
  5. you are right D-field fan, The 83 team will never be equaled. I have respect for D-field and most adults around here give you that respect. I just don't know why we are talking about playing you when we haven't won our way to that dance.
  6. Daingerfield is good, no doubt about it. If Newtons wins it way up to the quarters and they are there, we will show up like last year and might have the same results and then again we might just win. As for our neighbors, K-ville I don't see them backing down to the Tigers either, if Daingerfield goes big school. Either way, if Newton or K-ville is successful enough to get to the quarter finals and play them we want back down.JMO
  7. I want Newton to win but not at all cost. Saying this meaning if La Ray Alfred isn,t totally healed, don't play him. I think we can win without him if we don't turn the ball over and have senseless penalties. Saying this is not low expectations of Newton. I just don,t want a kid to play on a injury that could be with him the rest of his life. I would say the same for K-ville, if they have someone maybe not quite ready to play after a serious injury. Yes, this is for bragging rights for a year but  if  we win or lose we both will be playing next week. You didn't hear any excuses from me last year and Thank The Lord ,I am still around to watch more football.
  8. The purpose for these forums is in fun and tell it like it is. ( I thought ) The Problem is hideing behind screen names and sometimes saying ugly things toward people and communities. My thoughts are, when hiding behind a screen name to spout junk-off shows our true character. We tend to be bold and tough on the computer ( John Wayne style;rough, tough & take nothing-off anyone ). However, I think if you have to hide behind a computer screen to say some of this junk that has been so negative. we are weenie-dogs barking through a fence at pit-bull dogs. Anyway, let the players do the real talking friday nite.
  9. If Newton comes out and plays error free football, Newton takes it in a close one. If Newton makes a couple of mistake and K-ville also makes a couple of mistakes, I'll take Newton by 1. If Newton has several turn overs and K-ville plays error free as they did last year, Kirbyville should win in a close one. It is for bragging rights and I hope no one gets injured. We had a great fan and I'm proud to say a great friend go home to meet our Lord and Savior yesterday. Everyone around this area knew him, Cowbow Burnett, great Eagle fan, great man, he will be missed.
  10. 1 Newton 2 Burkeville 3 Jasper 4 Kirbyville all within 15 miles of Newton and most SETX programs when they aren't playing us or 2-4 on my list.
  11. I don't think pulling back or not trying to win with every play is in coach Barbay or  coach Alvarez character. They want to just win this week and let the chips fall where they may fall next week until they are eliminated or they have won it all. There want be any holding back on either Newton or Kirbyville. I think it will be a hard fought game till the end. I do wish our defense had the slober-knocking attitude and quit arm tackling but  Silsbee's quaterback dodged them good. Bragging rights matters with or without a state championship, I know forty years from now this game will still mean something in these young men memories.
  12. I am a Newton fan but I can tell you, watch what you say bragging or down grading any team or person. I personally think K-ville is UNDER-rated because of loses to quality teams . We didn't play WO-S or Jasper, If we would have,we might be 4-2. No,K-ville is not over-rated. I just hope they are not a sleeping giant waiting for newton and the playoffs.
  13. Burkeville Chronicle You are either a coach or a mad parent becaus little whomever didn't get given a passing grade. First , if you just pass everyone this first six weeks, then I guess the kids want remember that no athelete fails the first six weeks. They could assume that everyone that comes to practice gets to play because with your reasoning, the coaches could not grade the kids according to their ability. I am sick and tired of the schools rewarding kids for everything. Let's see, they graduate several times before they ever get out of high school now.Maybe thats why there is so many drop-outs. Heck, they graduated from elementary school. Back to what I was saying, just have your school board adopt a resolution not to give grades and see how soon we become a third world nation. A lot of kids are given everything in school so why should he work. Then we send them out in the real world and if they don't produce, I believe they lose their job. I was a pretty good athelete in h.s. and I remember the teachers that didn't give me a free ride (Appreciate it, Thanks ) and the teachers that let me slide. I called them coach.
  14. In the late 60 or early 70 , Newton got beat by Kountze by 60 points or so. Don't remember what there players did. I do remember there band playing TAPS at the end of the game. I still cannot pull for Kountze because of that, the ultimate disrespect. I wanted Barbay to score like 300 points against them in 1974 but he didn't. Now O-field helped my feelings that year. I don't even like a band playing that na na na na so long good bye. It seems disrespectful to me.Anyway Karma can be good and it can be a bear. Has Kountze done anything in football since then. Actually, the Karma should have gone with the band.
  15. Playing good teams ,when you are competative ( win or lose ) makes you play-off ready. I will be pulling for K-ville in all but the nov. 6 showdown. I hope K-ville goes 12-3 and Both K-ville and Newton Win state.
  16. I know that first of all you have to have soft hands, good eyes, stay focused on the ball and the rest is easy. Almost, if they cal a button hook or slant over the middle 5 or 6 times a game where you are getting blindsided half the time. Then it turns into gut check time, just as well to catch it cause i am gonna get tattoed anyway. If it hits you in both hands you should catch it unless you have hands of stone, hearing footsteps or bad eyesight. My youngest son dropped a few and we carried him to the optomologist (eye doctor) and found out his vision was like 20-120. I don't know how he could recognize anyone but he did. Just my views on catching and dropping passes.
  17. Wasn't that the first year the J. V. went undefeated. Man ,back then you guys had nearly 100 guys out for 9th, J.V. and Varsity. He was walking on the clouds for a week or so getting moved to varsity but he found out they were salty. He still has a copy of all but the 89 play-off games. Loaned the play-off games to some-one. I'll try to get him on here to get in touch. He only has goog memories of Newton and you guys. Even the party after the Mexia game at our house.
  18. I bet that group will never forgive themselves for a kid mistake. Oops, thats life. In 89 you were a good team after everyone got healthy. I know Chris missed the first 3 games and some were out longer than that.
  19. NOTWENS I have a son that played tackle for Newton in those games. He got a scholarship to McNeese and tore up a knee. Wasn't the 88 team that several players got kicked off the team after the O-field game for messing up big time. Also in 89 the Mexia game still have some regrets. Only time I ever seen Curtis throw the halfback option pass.
  20. The way Gilmer is playing, I will take the Buckeyes 49-14. Daingerfield will just be outmanned
  21. Man, talk about fair weather fans. WO-S is 3-1 an some people are down on them. They play a tough schedule to get play-off ready and lose one game and the world is coming to an end. I remember one year when Jasper beat WO-S in pre- district. Then, in the play-offs WO-S beat Jasper. Newton almost lost last night, they probably should have,we were lucky. Anyway, the sky isn't falling and the world hasn't ended. Just my thoughts about good programs.
