  1. They need to seperate this thing into two awards. One for academics/band/one act play mess and one for athletics. Brenham wins state in baseball, gets 2nd in volleyball and football, plus long playoff stints in boys hoops, softball, boys and girls soccer and doesnt win???
  2. I just dont see that its Friendswood's fault that LaMarque is not good at all. LaMarque forfeited their spring break games cause no one would show up. This would never happen in football. That left 2 teams that they were supposed to play with no games. Its LaMarque that has a problem, not Fwood. If they can find 9 that will committ and work to get better, dont have baseball.
  3. You have Waco Connally playing Orangefield in 87-88. I am really thinking the Waco schools, Connally, Robinson, and LaVega were in region 1 that year as LaVega region 1, Wylie region 2, Bellville region 3, and Sinton region 4 were the state tournament reps. In the region 3 semis, Bellville beat Kirbyville 10-4 while Sealy beat Woodville 12-11. Bellville went on to beat Sealy 5-1 to claim the region title before losing to Arthur Rhodes and the LaVega Pirates 5-4 on a walk off bloop single at the state tourney.

  4. JAKE ROWELL

5-11, 190 lbs., INF // Orange, Texas (Angelina College)

As a freshman at Angelina College, Rowell hit .347 with eight home runs and 34 RBI to help lead the Roadrunners to a 34-18 record. A prep standout at Little Cypress-Mauriceville HS, Rowell batted .548 with 11 homers and 52 RBI as a senior to earn First Team All-State and Southeast Texas most valuable player honors. In addition, Rowell was named First Team All-District, All-Orange Leader and Super Gold Team for three-consecutive seasons. The 5-11 infielder chose UALR over TCU, Texas State and Sam Houston State.

Angelina head coach Jeff Livin on Rowell: “Jake is one of the hardest workers I have ever had. He is a great all-around kid that is very versatile. He is a middle of a line-up guy with a great mentality and approach.â€

Norwood on Rowell: “Jake is a left-handed stick with some big time thump in it.  He is a relentless worker and comes from a great junior college program.â€

  5. If this has been posted before, I appologize. I have heard that the new EC baseball coach will be former LaGrange head coach Darren Seymour. LaGrange is also the former stop of current Buc AD Tony Velastro. Seymour was the assistant at LG when LG won the whole thing in 04 with Homer Bailey and crew. If you remember, I had said that EC would not get a good hire in this position. I have to say, they did WAY better than I had thought they would. Congrats to coach Seymour and to Coach V for hiring a baseball guy. You people in EC should be pretty excited about this hire.

  6. Here are some notes on Bellville so listen up. Bellville loves to try pick off moves, especially with a left hander on the mound. They will pick a hundred times. When Jasper gets runners on 1st and 2nd and its a bunting situation, Bellville will run the early break pick at 2nd off of the wheel play. Corners will charge, screaming "bunt". The pitcher will lift his leg, do an inside move and pick to 2nd. Bellville will relay signals to their hitters if they possibly can.  Usually, they call out first name for fastball, and last name for offspeed. Sometimes they will change it up and go with name or number. Bellville's hitting is not very strong. They have 3 homeruns for the entire season. On top of that, all 3 came in 1 game, at Giddings, which is a launching pad. Good luck to the Dawgs, and hope Coach Mixon is listening.
