  1. Former liberty panther band member Walter Jackson took over as brenham supt and brought in big changes. New football, baseball, boys/girls hoops, boys/girls soccer, and boys/girls cross country head coaches along with all the coordinators. Football made a great run last year but would have been 1-9 in their previous district alignment. Boys/girls hoops both went 5-25, boys soccer won 2 games and baseball missed the playoffs for 1st time in 35 years. Brenham high is trending towards inner-city Houston.

  2. Saw that the head baseball coaching job was open at Salado about 2 months ago already. Anyone have any scoop on the situation there? They are a perennial baseball power but it seems that they keep losing coaches. They had a good one leave there about 3 or 4 years ago and then hired a young guy that is now leaving. If anyone has any info, please inform.

  3. These camps are a waste of parents money. If you are a good player, you will be found. Send an email to every college coach in the country, let them know you are interested in playing for their institution. Give the college coach your HIGH SCHOOL coach's name as a reference. These camps are all about money. 100 kids at $150 equals $15,000 in the pocket. At the camps, you run a 60, get 5 or 6 fungos, and a few swings in the cage. Pitchers throw 15 pitches in the bullpen and catchers throw 4 or 5 balls to 2nd and 3rd base. You can do what you want but charging what they do is outrageous. If they did this for $20 Id say its a good deal. Just my .02
  4. Everyone needs to go to the UIL website and see what the UIL has in store for the baseball playoffs. 2 out of 3 will pretty much be a thing of the past due to end of course testing. There will be 2 weeks between the bi district and area rounds. If you are as upset as I am, email daryl Beasley at the UIL along with the principal/superintendent of your school. Let them know that this is a bunch of bull. Please check this out and thanks for your support.
  5. Thoughts on "private instructors": Many of them dont want to put up with all the football bs that goes on in high school. They want to just coach baseball. Lots of them also enjoy much higher paying jobs than teaching and then can also "coach" baseball on the side. Also remember this, you are paying an instructor. He is going to be very positive and tell you things that you want to hear. He will never have to make out a line up for your sons team. He tells you great things, you keep paying lots of money for lessons, he keeps telling you more great things. How many of them tell you, "If I were the coach little Johnny would be ......"
  6. On a third strike that the catcher doesnt catch, the ruling is either wild pitch or passed ball. That ruling depends on whether the pitcher made a bad throw that the catcher couldnt handle (wp) or the pitcher made a good pitch that the catcher just didnt handle. (pb) If the third strike is missed but the catcher picks it up and throws to first and makes a wild throw, that would then be an E2.  So, Im assuming that the catcher threw the dropped 3rd strike away at 1st.
  7. Im thinking if the players would practice some defensive skills sometime between august and March that the defense would improve. Instead of them being in offseason football or playing 7 on 7, get out and take some ground balls and fly balls. What do these baseball guys do during Nov. Dec and Jan? Are they working on football skills or what? Get them on the field and practice some defense. What im trying to say is that most schools focus so much on football that they dont allow the baseball guys to get in the work that is desperately needed. Lastly, when is the last time you heard someone say that they are going to take a defensive lesson?
