Not that familiar with other teams in Kountze's district.  Will they be challenged in district play?

Other than Newton, no. That's why I said it was good that this was a somewhat competitive game for them.

We'll need a strong warm-up game before the playoffs!

Saw Kountze play in Tenaha and was very impressed.  If they win their district, which it sounds like they will, their first playoff match up will be either White Oak or Tatum.  They will need a strong warm up game as you say.
I hope to see that area round game and given the location of those schools, I am thinking the Lufkin/Nac area.  Nac ISD gym would be my guess.
  2. Was reading on another board about some of the Houston teams coming to play in the Stars over Texas tournament this weekend.  Appears some of the coaches got together and formed a committee called the EGCC (Elite gold coaches committee) and threatened to pull 10 teams out 10 of the SOT if 3 specific teams were allowed to play.  Their bluff worked and those teams were not allowed to play.

Anyway, just wondered how the tournament went given the input from the Impact Gold and others (sometimes referred to here as the Spring Klein Mafia) in running the tournment.  I noticed from the scheduling that all the big name gold teams from Houston got prime game times and all games at Ford Park whicle local Beaumont teams (Blast, Orange Crush, OOC and the Shockers) had some games at Ford Park but also played some at College Street park (sound like Ronald McDonald tournament East to me).

How many games were lost at College Street on Saturday?  Were any lost at Ford Park?

  3. from Lufkin Daily News

Ladyjacks 48, Central Heights 42 — Fresh off their thrilling, overtime win over Nacogdoches to win this past weekend’s Hudson Tournament, Diboll’s Ladyjacks took advantage of the Lady Devils’ fourth-quarter free-throw struggles to hang on for a 48-42 win over Central Heights.

With the Lady Devils clogging the lane for three quarters in hopes of limiting Diboll’s Niya Bryant, the Ladyjacks fell behind 40-38 with just over five minutes to play.

But Bryant, who finished with 14 points, managed 7 points and 5 rebounds over the final six minutes; and the Lady Devils misfired on 10 of 13 free throw attempts in the same time frame, allowing Diboll to hold on for the win.

Lexxus Hamilton scored 12 points for the Ladyjacks, while Cristen Simmons added 8. Karah Phipps pitched in with 8 rebounds; Bryant finished with 13 boards and 4 blocks.

Central Heights got 10 points each from Brittany Crawford and Amy Draper, with Draper adding a pair of three pointers. Brittany Johnson added 6 points.

Diboll will participate in the Fairfield Tournament this weekend, opening the tournament against Marlin on Thursday, before opening district play in Jasper on Tuesday.
