Who is next in line for the Raiders? Hear the coach is joining the HF head football coach.

If he is joining the HF head FB coach, what will his job title be?  Doesn't HF have a head baseball coach?  What's going to happen at HF???

  2.  I hope you are right 62jj!!!   With Orangefield having to go to overtime to beat Liberty we may have a problem if we continue to run the "same three plays"!!!    I also am questioning why Harris did not wear a headset the entire second half and continued to cry to the side judge to receive our second sideline penalty of the night.  How about putting on a headset and making some second half adjustments; aka COACHING!!!  Option looked good when we mixed it up and pitched it.  When 9 are in the box some play action would have definitely been nice to see; even some shotgun to mix it up to give King a few more options in the backfield.  Good luck Horns!  Go Big Blue!

  3. 5-5,1-3 in district and thanks to the UIL realignment HF is in the playoffs.  The state may want to reconsider the number of teams that are granted the "privilege" to make the playoffs.  Not quite sure "earned" would be the term I would use in this particular case.  5-5 is an improvement from years past for the Horns but still not what is expected from such a playoff traditional community.  I hope next year will bring changes for the better and the playoff tradition will continue to be "earned"!  Good luck next week!  GO HORNS!

  4. The Longhorns drop another close one tonight versus the Falcons 3-2. Congratulations on making the playoffs for the first time in three years. Good luck to the seniors as they move on in the future. Eight seniors will be hard to replace next year. Good luck to Coach Morris Coach Ibarra and Coach Clark next year as they try to make it back to back playoff appearances and bring the tradition back to Longhorn Country.

HF made great improvements tonight. We played very well and held PNG several series. Still had problems rapping up when  we had someone for a loss. There was not a huge touchdown play given up which is an improvement from last year. They say you always improve when you play a tougher competitor. So, HF truly improved tonight.

As far as PNG goes, I think they will not repeat the 2-8 season from a year ago. They look much improved.

I am not sure which quarterback is which, but the number 19 seemed a lot more comfortable in the backfield. Number 16 had to keep running to the sideline to make a pass. 19 put the ball in the perfect spot many times. His receivers did not help him much. The number 19 had a height advantage that seemed to favor him so much more in the backfield. I know which quarterback I would go with.

    Have a great season PNG.

I'm not sure giving up 6 TDs and not scoring at all is playing "very well".  :'(  I hope HF is improving none the less.  I would hate to see the Horns repeat their 2-8 season or worse.  Good luck to the Longhorns on an injury free season!

Parents, great idea let your kid quit while the other kids bust their butts, and the kid that quits plays just baseball, golf, whatever then when football comes around the quitter gets to play again..... Bad idea unless they is
    severe punishment
I understand there should be some "punishment".  What is severe?  Do you suspend the player and hurt the team and a chance at a win, or is there something else done specifically for the player so that it does not affect the TEAM?  Remember 2-8 is unacceptable!  I would hate for this to be the reason not to get a couple of W's.

why on earth would you punish a kid for wanting to play?

If he missed the offseason and it affected his progress, then other players will take his playing time anyway...  If he missed the off season , but is still able to contribute, it would seem you would want that player contributing..

These are teens that have alot going on...and arent sure what they want day to day...

To often, blanket rules get put in place... Each situation is different and must be viewed differently.
I think he's moreless referring to a kid who was in football, quit, and is trying to come back. He should have some conditioning to complete. But I don't think it should be implemented as a "punishment". It should be considered a make-up. And I also think a team vote should take place to promote a team atmosphere in the locker room.
I really like the idea of a team vote!  The head coach was just quoted in the BE for saying "I think the biggest thing for us is our team chemistry."  Said player was a special teams player last year as a junior and could easily start on both sides of the ball this year.
  8. I think they will have the same record as last years squad, if not worse.  The Horns do have a talented QB but he is much too young to have him leading them into the playoffs. One issue the Horns will have to deal with is a massive coaching overhaul.  Two varsity coaches as well as two jr. high guys have decided to leave Longhorn country for several different reasons and "one common one", not to mention anyone's name!  The power struggles and chemistry between the members of the staff will not help Horns. To many guys leaving and new ones coming in will be too much of a distraction.  Still a couple of years away before anyone can mention playoffs at HF. Lets just focus on winning more than one.  A streak would be nice as long as it doesn't involve someone with no clothes. It would be even better if it happened in the winning column!!!
  9. WHAT??? A school actually hired someone within the program to take over and be the Head Coach!!!!  Congratulations Coach Fogo!  I am happy that SOME administrations do the right thing and give a guy that has been loyal to the program a shot at doing something they love.  Congrats again!

P.S. Maybe HF should have hired this guy  ;D

I don't have a dog in this fight, but I will tell you that a lot of the coaches from the district were surprised that the H-F assistant baseball coach didn't get a shot at the head job.
I am sure their time will come. Was he/she the JV coach this year?
No not the JV coach.  I am sure most are surprised the assistant varsity coach (Keeney) didn't get a shot. This man knows baseball!!!!
Don't know him so I am not surprised. I am curious, how do you know he did not get a shot, at an interview?
I would say the interview was just for show...AD knew who he was going to bring in!

Is this Jarrod Morris related to the superintendent Pamela Morris? If so it would explain A LOT
That is an outstanding question!  Not too sure on the answer, but definately something to look into.

That is a real shame about the 5th athlete and the way the AD spoke about the athletes that were moving on to the next level.  I don't understand how the administation can turn a blind eye to what is going on!

So the new AD has run off the baseball coach, girls basketball coach, and reassigned the softball coach. My sources tell me a lot of unhappy people out there. MaHaffey was a class act. Softball coach had been there since I moved to the area. Do not know much about the basketball coach. Maybe someone with deeper sources than I have can fill me in...I'm not connecting the dots on why here.

HFfan5...any idea of those assistant coaches plan on staying?
Connect these dots...Mahaffey was a class act...The Baseball Coach Retired..... The Softball Coach has had a horrible record the last 2 seasons....so they are getting new leadership there...... Just because softball coach has been there a long time does not guarantee her keeping the job....if they are not improving.....Girls baskeball coach has done a good job and got a job at a bigger program...good for her.....Sounds like the AD is doing a great job..... He is doing his job......Assistants have to prove they are able to follow....before they are giving the job to lead......dots connected.
How long do you have to "prove you are able to follow"?  And what does that even mean?  How long has this new head coach been "following"?  Is it just because he was "following" at a 5A that he is more qualified than a guy that has been at a successful 3A?  I will never know the answer to these questions.  I guess that is why I am no longer in the profession.

The girls softball program talent pool has taken a nose dive the last couple of years...very similar to what has happened to our football team the last 4-5 years.  You can't have the coaches throw strikes, get cluch hits, make tackles and catch passes; that is up to the athletes on the field.

The AD shouldn't fire himself if he has another 2-8 year or worse...but the administration that hired him should!!!  I was told that the AD said "2 and 8 is unacceptable!" and that is the absolute truth!

Here they hired a baseball coach from Midland.
Shocking.
This would be a great spot for a baseball coach. Great community and great yard. The assistants I've known are loyal and know the game and would be asset to the baseball program.
Not to sure these loyal assistants will stick around after constantly being overlooked for a head coaching job.
  14. Any word on who the new hire will be?  I noticed both the boys and girls basketball jobs are open also!  How many coaches are leaving this year?  Looks like the new AD will get a lot of opportunity to find replacements...hopefully he will give employees within the program a shot at some of these positions.  Only time will tell...
