  1. Clearly, LCM will have a new coach next season.  I was in the stands tonight and the lack of enthusiasm was deafening.  The crowd appreciates the efforts of the players who are hanging tough.

I believe that Dwight Bickham would be the right person for the job.  He is a former LCM coach who was well liked by the players.   Bickham was quickly hired by Deweyville as the head coach and AD.  He wasted no time in turning their football team from losers to winners.  We would be fortunate to have him back at LCM, where he belongs.

I hope the football team continues to hang in there.  Things have to get better.

Congrats to Coach Matthews on a successful night.

  2. I will never understand why LCM gets so much criticism, especially from outsiders.  As for as the bond election goes, I sat on the committee and there were many issues on what and where to build new facilities.  If I had not sat in on these meetings I may have been confused like some of you are about the decisions made.  Decisions were made, people voted, and its over.  We still need a new jr high and we still need a new high school.  If you live in the district and you don't like a policy, please let your voice be heard as it is your right.  Even if we go 0 and 50 in football, we still have a great school, some great educators and great families.  I also want the football program to succeed as much or more so than any of you on here, but lets not let that cloud the fact that we have a great school and district.

I am not trying to turn this into a LCM rag-fest.  But the mold and standing water on rainy days in the Junior High is not acceptable.  My child attends school there, and the sinus infections increase during the school year.  What is the reason for LCMs failure to clean up this mess?  And, the solution is not a bond issue.  40 million dollars as a whole and a $500 a year tax increase for me, individually, is difficult to swallow during these troubled times.  I would be more inclined to support a smaller bond issue if the district would demonstrate that it will take care of the buildings that currently exist.

I respect several of the teachers and staff at LCM.  They work hard and are skilled.  I dont have major concerns about most of the teachers.  The numerous  teachers that left the district have expressed their concerns about some of the policies of the administration.  Maybe "promoting" papa bear is a step in the right direction to soothing some of the concerns of the teachers.  (I don't recall a posting for his "new" position.)

A sharing of concerns can go a long way to improving the problems.  Maybe the administration can review some of these threads and try to bridge the communication gap between them and the community.  I have spoken to some officials about a few of these issues and I feel like my concerns are falling on deaf ears.  I dont want some sugar-coated non-answer, but rather someone to HEAR what I am saying.  I don't want some pie-in-the-sky answers.

Certainly, a new football coach and AD will be at LCM next year.  But other improvements must be made to help LCM be the kind of school that reflects favorably on the fine people living in the LCM community.

  3. The whole $15 to get your cell phone back is crazy.  The school doesn't fine students for fighting or cheating.  But, if you have a cell phone on in school, then it costs you $15.  Why??

My son was sick at school had his cell phone on while at the nurse's office waiting for a call from me.  When the phone went off at the nurse's office, the nurse took the phone from him.  I spoke to the asst. principal and the principal, and both refused to return the phone to my son without paying the $15 fee.  They demanded a strict compliance of the rules.  As a matter of principle, I refused to pay the $15.  I paid $20 to verizon to get an old phone activated.

Sometimes good sense is overruled by a mentality that  "we have to follow the rules".  Maybe its that type thinking from some of the school officials that prevents the community from embracing the football program as well as the school.

  4. Instead of a bond that costs the taxpayers money that they dont have, how about taking the cell phone fund, i.e. the $15 fine for the phones taken from the students, and applying it to the new buildings??  I was told that  LCM takes in 20 phones a day.  20 times 15 is $300 dollars a day.  Where does that money go??  I asked several school employees and they all assured me that "it goes to a good cause", but they wouldn't or couldn't tell me exactly where the money goes.  Geeez.

  5. LCM has some solid athletes not playing football.  I have spoken with several parents of those athletes and they are disenchanted with Moody.  They refuse to play for him.  They don't believe in his competence as a head coach.  And, as previously stated here, his promotion of other LCM teams has been very poor.

Every other LCM team either made the playoffs or were in contention.  You can't simply say that LCM doesn't have the athletes to compete, because they do. Does LCM have a football system in place that is in the same league as Nederland or WO-S???  I don't think so.  Those programs are teaching the same system at Jr. High that is used at the High School level.

Moody's coaching staff seems to change every year.  Why are the assistant coaches consistently leaving?? Why, as previously posted, are the football players quitting the team???  The LCM community stood behind Coach Williams during some losing spells.  But Moody has clearly lost the grass root support at LCM.  This season has been a long, painful good-bye.

I respect the LCM football players.  They are trying and I applaude their effort.  Hang in there, guys because things will get better.

  6. LCM supporter here.

Nederland looks sharp.  Bellow made several beautiful passes.  He can really throw it on the money.  Grogan is a heck of a runner.  It was fun watching someone that big move so fast.  Nederland will be tough to beat.

I felt for the LCM players.  I hope they get some better guidance next year.  The stands were empty and dead.  Enthusiasm was non-existant.  Perry made a nice strong run.  Gonzales will be a solid QB in the near future.  Otherwise, it was all Bulldogs.

Both Bears and Bulldog bands put on quite a show.  Best part of the night for some.

  7. Moody appears to be overprotective of HIS (not the taxpayers of LCM school district) football field.  Having a good looking football field is not more important than having a team that plays well.

I am a WO-S alum who now lives in the LC-M school district.  Over at WO-S, anybody can play on their field at any time.  I am sure many a young potential football player enjoyed playing on the big field while he sharpened his football skills.  Over at LC-M Battlin Bears stadium, people are greeted with a "keep off the field" sign.  It sends a poor message.

Moody has been reluctant to allow the varsity soccer team to play their games on the football field.  What is the reason for that???

As I stated earlier, the soccer players are solid athletes with the potential to be strong football players.  But the soccer players have not particpated in Moody's football program.  Until something changes, I don't think that LC-M will put its best athletes on the football field.  Too bad.  The other sports at LC-M seem to be performing quite nicely.

  8. I think the athletic director at LCM would LOVE to have the soccer players on his football team.  For various reasons, the athletic director has been unable to get the kids to buy into his "program".  Every sport at LCM but football has had a successful year this season.  You can't say that LCM doesn't have the athletes, because they clearly do.  For any coach at LCM to ridicule the soccer players is absurd.  Jealousy???
