  1. OF does support their teams - win or lose - in all the sports.  And the one thing I have noticed about OF, this being from the coaches and fans, is that the whole team is supported, they are talked about as a team, not one individual player that the coach singles out to give any credit to, but the "team" and and not a one or two man show and that's where they are above alot of area teams which I think shows they have a coach with class and intelligence along with fans that follow suit.
  2. I think BC plays WOS a very close game, but the winner comes down to the offense that has the least turnovers.  BC's defense is playing tough and with Menard grinding out yardage on the ground, it's going to be a fun game to watch.  With all the hoopla going on with the Mustangs, I hope all that can be put aside, and whomever takes the field, that both teams go out with respect for the other and plays a hard fought, clean football game with no injuries to either team.  Go Red!

  3. I am a firm believer in keeping it quiet while its important to keep it quiet and while things develop, but once everyone finds out there is something going on I think some information needs to be provided.  Much like on here there are several that know something has happened and have no clue what only leaving them to make assumptions and draw their own conclusions.  Majority of the time these assumption are far worse than the actual incident.  Im not saying every detail needs to be provided but to keep it from looking like people are trying to cover up things or leaving people to make their own assumption usually just makes the matter worse.

That is so true...............and other teams are talking about it and with that being said, that's how things get blown out of proportion (sp) and rumors start flying and the story gets bigger and bigger!
  4. Getting to the heart of your two observations/questions.  First, there are a few local options for high school players to showcase their talents on a select team.  There are the two you mentioned, Sun Devils and GTB.  There is also Gladiators and TPX Baseball.  If you want to go a little farther east, there is Bullet Baseball in Lake Charles.  All of these teams have tryouts.  In many cases, they are invited tryouts.  But tryouts are not exclusive to invited tryouts.  Gladiators, for instance, have had open tryouts the past summer and fall seasons.   Those tryout dates were posted on this web site.

Second, does a player have a better opportunity to be seen in one of these programs, absolutely.  One of the previous posts talked about a scout seeing multiple players of exceptional talent on one select team.  Whereas, most area high schools are lucky to have two.  LCM's senior class last year was an exceptional class.  Furthermore, organizations invite scouts down for private work outs.  Sun Devils have had several times where they have private work outs with scouts invited down to their facility.  Chris Fackler does an exceptional job coordinating tournaments at Lamar where no less than half dozen scouts attend.  Most of the teams in those tournaments are select organizations like GTB, Gladiators, and even some teams from other parts of the U.S.

The focus of all these select organizations is to prepare their players for the next level.  There are advocates within each organization who try to market their players to colleges and junior colleges.

There are an incredible number of talented baseball players in this area.  We are lucky to have as many fine organizations as we do.  Furthermore, this area is lucky to have people like Chip Ferguson, Chris Fackler, Sam Moore, and Morgan Walker who have been there and can pass along their knowledge to the players of SE Texas.

Thanks very much for the info, guess I didn't pay much attention to the posted tryouts and I did not know that the Gladiators even existed anymnore (son played for Morgan several years on the Gladiators 12u I think).  And as he is a senior now, looks like he may have missed the boat as far as getting involved in these teams unfortunately, so hopefully he can get help from Coach Landry to  play on.  Again I appreciate all the info, I learned alot............just wish I'd have asked these questions before now!
  5. For the record, the Sun Devils have had some tryouts in the past.  Plus, if anybody contacts us (and we don't already know the player), we hold individual tryouts and/or tryout with our team.

I was given incorrect info on the Sun Devils apparently!  Sorry about that.  My son played for the Big Timers for awhile, played with a Houston Team a few games, and has had lessons from Morgan, Chris, Sam, etc, a few years ago, but not recently.  I just always hear of players off of these teams getting scholorships and not much from kids who don't  and I was curious as to whether scouts even came to high school games much anymore.
  6. I guess I should've made my post a little clearer and didn't mean just these two teams I mentioned but that kids playing on these types ofe teams seem to be the one's getting the chance to play on in the next level.  Don't hear much about kids that just play high school ball and aren't part of any of these sort of organizations.  Seems like a kid needs to get on one of these showcase teams to get any looks versus just playing high school.  Guess a kid wanting to get noticed should make a point of getting a team to play for other than hs or they may get left out in the cold!  I know the Sun Devils pick and choose players and it's by invitation only, but do the other teams in the area have tryouts or do they do as the SD's?

  7. Seems like all the area kids that are playing on in the next level play for Sundevils or GTB......................are these the only kids getting looked at?  With that observation in mind, do the high school players that are not fortunate enough to be on one of these teams stand much of a chance getting looked at?  I think it's great what these organizations do, but what happens to the other players that aren't associated with these types of teams?

  8. I believe OF will play Newton a good game.  It appears that they have a very good coach that has taken the boys as a whole, brought out the best in his players, especially his seniors and juniors, and made a TEAM.  He doesn't seem to single out one or two players that get all the credit, but has built a unit out of them that I think are set to surprise some in district play.  OF has improved week to week and Newton is a good choice to get ready for district.  Good luck Cats!

  9. How many more days do we have to wait for baseball to start????  I am way past ready, lol! And I also have a question about high school baseball. If a kid plays football, but does not play basketball, can they begin any sort of baseball (ex. batting cages at school, throwing, etc) during athletics?  Just wondering if UIL allows a coach to work with any of the baseball players while waiting for basketball to end.

  11. To be honest I hope both schools go to the playoffs. Wouldn't that be awesome. If Orangefield does not go I hope BC does. I don't get the same feeling from you redbird. That is the difference in our communities. Night and day is all I can say.

I am with you and please don't think the whole community is like that .......................... there are a few of us here that don't fit that mold!  Sure I hope BC is the third team to make the playoffs as my sons are Cardinals, but if not, I hope it's the Bobcats.  And I think all this talk about the playoffs for BC is very very immature considering who we have beaten, now beating LCM might make that vision a little brighter, but I think they would be wise to take one game at a time and not get the big head too soon cause there's a long way to go and a very competetive district to get thru before the smack talking starts.
