  1. I think they are going to work this out somehow. Some of the elite athletes will not be going under the current format and I am pretty sure that they will find a way so that they will be competing. I know that Alex De La Garza who is in 4A and has the #4 time(4:15 1600) for the 1600 in the state(1A-5A) will not be going, Zach Ornelas(9:12) who has one of the top 5 fastest 3200(1A-5A) will not be going, Austin Roth (9:08) will not be going, and Evan Hibbs(4:16) who was a Footlocker Finalist(huge national meet) will not be going. These are just a few distance guys, there are plenty more distance runners and other events too that will not be going. I think UIL will have to come up with some kind of solution to this other than the one that they have now.
  2. [Hidden Content] This is a great forum for running. There are both coaches and athletes that post on there. Many of the athletes are elites too, so they do know about running. They have a discussion going on about this right now. Hopefully this will help a little. Feel free to join in and voice your opinions.
  3. I believe that this means that the top 4 times from each region will be taken to the state meet. They will extend the meet to 3 days. They will run semi-finals and take the 8 fastest times from the semi-finals to finals. I agree this is ridiculous. It will be very bad if they go by district times. The UIL rushed into this way too fast without really thinking this through.Too many things have to be considered. Handheld times being converted to FAT...how accurate are the hand held times going to be?What if a district had a 30mph backwind and a 100m runner goes 10.5? Or if a guy runs like a 4:30 mile and wins by 20 seconds while another guy runs a 4:29 and gets second? Many runners, especially distance runners just run to win and not run a fast time. These guys and girls are going to be the ones left out. Bumping the meets back a couple of weeks would make the most sense.
  4. [Hidden Content] Regional Track Meets All UIL regional track meets originally scheduled for this weekend, May 1-2, have been cancelled. The state track and field meet will be extended to a three-day format to include semifinal heats. The meet is tentatively scheduled for Thursday, Friday and Saturday, May 14-16. Semifinal qualifiers will be based on the district track meet results. Each region will be represented at the state meet by the top four performances in each event for all conferences. Hand-held times will be converted to fully automatic times as defined by the National Federation of State High School Association rules. A revised track and field state meet schedule will be posted on the UIL web site no later than Friday, May 1. Qualifiers to the UIL state track and field meet will be posted on the UIL web site on Wednesday, May 6.
  5. Nobody is blaming him. Cross country is in the fall. People do talk about it when it is in season. Van Wade does an awesome job of covering it during the fall so that people do recognize it.
  6. Cross country isn't listed, go figure :...you are right though, it gets very little respect. Congrats to your runners as well. I saw that they have been running pretty well. Regionals should be a very good race for both the boys and girls.
  7. 6-0 Lamar top 7th. Fields been cleared cause of the rain.
  8. If the track is as bad as it sounds, I am surprised we have not heard about any stress fractures or other injuries.
  9. Give that Orangefield girl a pair of lightweight spikes and she drops her time even more than she did. She is peaking at the perfect time if she has dropped 26 seconds in two weeks.
  10. I hope everything goes well in surgery for him. I would think that college coaches would understand this situation and not take away their offers. Jared had no way of preventing this from happen. If it takes a year+ of rehab, then he can redshirt and still have 4 years to compete. Most freshmen are redshirted anyway. He is one of the better vaulters in Texas, somebody will still want him on their team and give him a decent scholarship.
  11. [Hidden Content] Lots of schools here. Looks like it is going to be a good meet.
