  1. I have coached several teams during the summers since my son was 8 years old. Without a doubt, the summer is where the experience comes from. The more games you play, the more exposure to the way the game is supposed to be played. Hence, the "Old Days" of just being a good team in high school and the word gets out to where 30 scouts are in the stands watching you just because they "heard" about a good player...are gone. My son played extra games every summer and did not reach the exposure stage until the summer after his sophomore season. Perfect game, Premier, etc. are all okay but are expensive and the scouts are not always out in flocks. The exposure this year at the 2dsports tournaments is considered "Unmatched" in my experiences thus far. Of course, there are many organizations out there, but 2d has paved the way for my son to have several coaches from colleges see him perform. The main thing the 2dsports addressed were to state to my team that GRADES are a major issue. SAT and ACT tests are a must. I definitely agree with EAGLE011's quote, " Try to stay away from brand new teams and ones that pay their mortgage on your dues.  Have the grades and yes no  matter what program your with have to have the talent to get to the next level, be realistic on your kids talent, some think just because their kid plays varsity baseball they will get a scholarship..." Take the initiative as a parent and invest the time in your son, it is definitely worth it. unless YOUR SON HITS THE BALL LIKE GRIFFEY OR BRYCE HARPER AT 15, work at the pace that is necessary for your son to be seen. Simply put.... "If he doesn't love the game, he shouldn't play!"

  2. Attention: We will still conduct the tryouts if the rain prevents getting on the field. We have indoor facilities that we can use. Pitchers will throw 10-15 pitches, hitters will take swings in the indoor batting cages. We will re-convene to have field evaluations at a later date. ALL CATCHERS PLEASE BRING YOUR GEAR SO WE CAN EVALUATE YOU RECEIVING AND BLOCKING

SO DON'T LET THE RAIN KEEP YOU FROM COMING!

    THANKS,

    COACH ROD

  4. One thing I have learned coaching in this league, is that being a coach for Lil Mustangs doesn't warrant for talking noise. The combined record for me so far in all teams I have been associated with doesn't matter. But winning 4 out of 6 super bowls does. The foundation of fundamentals that we show our kids is reflected on the high school level year in and year out. That's something that I am proud of. Just FYI >>  WOS motto... "We don't need to tell you what we are going to do, we just compete and let you talk about us after it's over!" See you next year...

  6. Kind of touching on what moose48 expressed, everything is ridiculous. I am friends with several 7th, 8th and 9th football parents on both sides. I have seen several things happen in the past where it's always been pretty good games. Hard fought on both sides. To make a reply on the 9th grade game squeaking it out 10-8 right at the end, doesn't reflect them playing the week before winning 20-0. Also, we several freshman playing on the JV level that would have a huge differential on the score. So it's really hard to say what the final outcome may be.  It was great to see all of the support at the 7th and 8th grade games. They even had the band there! It was even better seeing the #26 walk back down the sidelines after being carted off the field! In the end, shouldn't all just be about the kids that are playing? Nice post Roy.... and remember, the winner will always be the one that has the most points at the end.... nothing else matters.

  8. Ok people. I am growing tired of all of the talk about 14u Demolition Baseball not having a team. There are two kids off of my team from last year playing fall ball with Mizuno Select. Any other of my players want to play fall ball, they are more than welcomed to to try and better themselves. So unless you know the real deal, it's wise to keep quiet. But, EVERYBODY has a right to voice opinions. So again... DEMOLITION BASEBALL WILL BE IN FULL SWING IN THE SPRING! I will post tryouts soon. So if you want to play with us, please keep your eyes posted for the Spring tryout soon. To the current Demo family: DON'T BELIEVE THE HYPE! COACH ROD WILL JUST AS PASSIONATE AS EVER FOR THE 14U DEMO NEXT YEAR! Sportsman04 has no clue what's he's talking about. Thank you for your time, COACH Roderick Robertson

  12. Hello all. I just thought that I would my add my thoughts and opinions about this post and some of the comments thereafter. First of all, thanks for bringing this to a forefront about recruiting. I'm sure that the times have changed since we came out Fack, but I do know one fact today and I think that you will attest. I have been an umpire for the area high schools for a while now, and as far as I can see. There have only been two or three kids that have come through that could hang with the district foes that we had in school. I will list just a couple of names from the mid 80's that may bring some awareness to some of you.

Charles McElroy (Lincoln, 1986) - 16 years in the MLB 277 K's (state record) Lefthander - Mid to upper 90's 8th rd. , Phillies
    Archie Corbin (BC-P, 1986) - 2 years in the MLB , - Mid to Upper 90's, 14th rd. Mets
Lionel Adams (French, 1985) - Drafted by Atlanta Braves Played three years in Minors.
Jason Woods (WO-S, 1986) - 6'6" Catcher with a hose that could hit em over 400', 14th round Mets
    Roderick Robertson (WO-S, 1986) - 3rd round, Phillies
Wade Phillips (WO-S, U of Texas 1986) - Pitcher, mid to upper 90's, 9th rd., Tigers
Xavier Hernandez (TJ,) Houston Astros, Yankees, MLB
Andre Robertson, (WO Chiefs, 1976), 4th rd. Blue Jays, World Series 1981, Yankees

All of these were in the same district except McElroy. My brother Andre paved the way for me, so I was lucky. This is the kind of competition that we had to face on a game by game basis. When I was blessed to be invited to visit the University of Texas, there were a total of 15 people in the dressing room along there with me. Some of the names included were, Chuck Knoblauch, Scott Scudder, Daryl Green, John Byington, etc. (just to name a few). All of these guys signed in the top 5 rounds and most of them played over 8 years in the minor leagues or made it to the show at some point.

So the moral behind the post...as far as a college recruiting your son... IF YOU CAN PLAY, THEY WILL FIND YOU!

Coach Cliff Gustafson watched me play one game. God blessed me to go 4-5 that game and play great defense at short. I didn't even know he was there. He called me a month later and said, "You're a Longhorn, that's if you wanna be." It's the same philosophy in hitting, LUCK and OPPORTUNITY meet at the same time.

My son is in "Select" right now, the reason he is there, is because he loves to play the game. At 11 years old, he does things that I couldn't do. (At least that's what his paw-paw says). But does that mean that will be in the MLB? Of course not. He has to LOVE the game and be blessed by God to stay healthy and injury free and continue to improve. As long as he keeps asking to play, I will be there for him. IF HE CAN PLAY...THEY WILL FIND HIM.

    Roderick Robertson
  13. Just like always, I just sit back and listen and watch. Icewater and PRevis are my boyz, and I will let you know... I will be on the sidelines myself. I help with the team on the offensive side. As far as I can remember, we could have scored much more points, but we chose to stop scoring by giving other kids a chance to run the ball. We use different kids so they will be ready for if someone goes down and can't return. The problem with our offense, you never know who's getting the ball. So if you try to isolate one, we just give it to the other, or the other, or the other, or even throw. Offense is just like you run it, diversions, trickery, misdirections, silent counts, power sweeps, etc. There's only two things that will decide the game. Who blocks and who tackles, and who has the least amount of turnovers. We have played the hard hitters, but we have some kids that will come hit you too. Granted, nobody in this league has NFL scouts watching this game, but there has been much improvement with our attitude as each game goes by. So all of the scouting will be considered null and void on Saturday... It depends on how you prepare kids, and how well they execute the preparation. Good Luck to everyone this weekend, and hopefully everyone will remain healthy. I will guarantee one thing, the 'Stangs will show up and come after ya... ALL OF THE TIME! But you already know that, don't you... Se ya Sat.
  14. No prob at all Queen. It's really not a big deal. You should know why I posted what I posted. It was not to bash you, it was simply to stay focused on trying to be an assistant coach on this team. You don't know the half of what... I will leave that alone.  Please accept my apology for making you feel bad if I did. That's not the way I am, and I think you know that. Tell Gary Coach is proud of the way he handles himself, he's grown alot of character.

  15. I have heard that the Mustang Sr. Team may face Lumberton White. Looks like the last post is saying different. It doesn't really matter though, the fact is that we have to play at our best to beat whoever we play. If things work out, hopefully WOS will be on top. We have alot of thigs that we saw against a very well coached and "Tough" Vidor team. They will give whoever plays them all they can handle. There will be adjustments made, so there is no need to worry about how will come out in the game. We can play with anyone when the kids want to perform, it's up to them. We will HAVE to put the best team on the field that we have in every position and hope for success. Good luck to everyone, and prayers go out now that nobody gets hurt. O yeah Queen B., I did not talk to Eric.... This is something that someone else told me. (Just to clear the air). No big deal, just wanting to make it clear that ERIC did not tell me anything about who we are going to play. I don't go around quoting what Eric says. (THAT'S NOT AN OFFENSIVE STATEMENT EITHER) I am simply stating that I don't use names on this board talking about people, or quoting ANYTHING that somebody says. Lots of noise at the carnival, I just said I heard that we were facing Lum White because of us losing to Vidor. Ok? Go STANGS! Blue and Silver remains in my blood, no matter the outcome. We have athletes galore, but if you don't have the heart, determination and 110% effort.... Performance will suffer.

  16. We have filled our roster for the 11 AAA / Major / Premier team. There are several players that want to play, and we think they would make an excellent 11AA or 11AAA team. We have two coaches that have expressed they would head it up. If you are interested in playing, please call Michael Price @ 409-670-7525 or Ronnie Shugart @ 409-920-9297.  Right now, it looks like we have 4 to 5 spots pending team size preference from the coaches. There is no need to contact Roderick Robertson, WOS Football is going on now and that's the only circus in town. After football season, I will hit it hard and heavy. As of right now, the 111 Major team is filled. Thank you for your interest,

    Coach Rod.

  17. Just to add a few words... These kids performed at a level that leads to believe that anything can happen. I (Coach Rod) am proud of all of these kids. They fought through adversity, rain delays and being somewhat sick. Everyone conributed in all different facets of the game. Small ball, big ball, defensively... they did it all. Several records were set by this team. Most consecutive wins (9) excluding forfeitures, most runs scored (71)--> minus 3 from the forfeited game, and most recorded strikeouts by team pitching (54). Not to mention the team play rising to the top when it counted. Congratulations to all of the boyz.... THEY DESERVE IT! I am proud to be a coach on this team. Thanks for the memories, Coach Rod.

  18. I am certainly glad that we (Jr. Blue) could come together at the right time and play the right way. I have learned more than you know this year with the coaching staff, parents, team mom and just dealing with it all. I don't know if you all know how hard it is to keep being that "Always there" daddy on the home front, and being a coach for 24 kids on your team. (MUCH LOVE AND APPRECIATION TO MY PATIENT WIFE.. BRANDY LYNN ROBERTSON for all of your help and patience listening to me on the phone talking about football, and just for being there for me and my son.)  he whole thing in a nutshell is this.... The people that know me, (or have grown to know me) should know that I am the one person that usually tries to shy away from confrontation. My confrontations have been many this year, and I thank the lord for his grace and mercy for all of them. I also thank him for the patience factor he has instilled in my everyday life. I have come to believe, that if you let the kids do it... Everything will be alright. I have to let you know that I am greatful for all of the memories that I will carry for a lifetime. I love the competition, the talking amongst friends, the "EVERYTHING" about it all. I have been blessed to play with pro athletes, and I must say... I think this year tops hitting homeruns off of Jeff Reardon, Greg Maddux and Dave Stieb. Also, robbing Barry Bonds and Bobby Bonilla of basehits up the middle in the same game. So again, thanks fellas. Special thanks go to my coaching staff who came out and devoted their time and help. They include Eric Guillory, Coach Ed Ivory, Coach Spencer,  Coach Jessie Bias (#25 RB @ WOS in the Hey-Day), Coach Quenton Tezeno (the only #23 from WOS), the always supportive Ricky Blagburn and his mom, Gary Beach, Coach Shalynn, Coach Marcus Teal, the one and only supportive Minister Mims, John Hardin, and the best "Team Mom" known to the Lil' Mustangs... Glenda Beach. No matter what everybody said all year and after the super bowl, I say, "THANK YOU FOR THE MEMORIES, SUPPORT, FAITH AND THE OPPPORTUNITY TO BE THE HEAD COACH OF THE 2008 JR. DIVISION SUPER BOWL CHAMPS!" Hats off to the Raiders for a great game, your team and coaching staff have class. and TD.. I will see you after the holidays. Thanks for the opportunity to give back, I have acheived my goal. GO 'HEAD ON BLUE!
