  1. It's really fun to read the various posts about games in Southeast, Texas.  It will always be home to me.  One thing people need not forget, WO-S 'aint gonna fool Silsbee and Silsbee 'aint gonna fool WO-S.  The blood-lines of coaching in Silsbee run deep.  Stud McGallion taught his boys the football protocols and the fundamentals of coaching and "kid mentoring".  WO-S has the same in Cornel Thompson.  They all come from great stock.  I think WO-S will win, I do.  Remember this, Silsbee plays lights out against us "most of the time" and will be well-prepared come friday night.  It will be Southeast, Texas football fun and all posters should respect what both coaches bring to the table.  I hope both teams come out 112% healthy and represent our area well in the playoffs....  Go Mustangs....
  2. Well, I added to the collection last night at midnight in Pflugerville...  Got the 2012 edition.  I have 1963 thru 2012.  I've held and almost purchased 1960 once but I will someday....  Everybody enjoy your annual "kick start"....
  3. Just a note to say that the Mustangs have elevated their game; no doubt.  It's senseless to start projecting who you gonna play next, can you beat so and so.  You better beat who you got in front of you this week.  I do not know how far the Mustangs will go.  However, they appear to be getting on a "playoff roll".  They are a different team.  I have never seen a team become a very different team once the playoffs start, quite like the '82 West Brook Bruin team.  Coach Durley turned that team into a monster in the "3rd Phase of a Season" - the Playoffs.  This version of the Mustangs appear they COULD do the same.  If they keep playing like this and jelling, they could be SCARY to future opponents.  Some teams stagnate and don't improve.  Some "get on a roll".  Time will tell....
  4. Last night, as I came back from half-time, Coach Stud McGallion was being honored.  I stood and remembered him from way back as a child.  He put together a very nice program in Silsbee like Coaches Hooks and Barbay did.  It's not often you have a long tenure at a school and a program is associated with a name.  For years, when I thought of Silsbee, I quickly thought "McGallion".  Coach McGallion was a fixture in Southeast Texas Football for a long time.  There will come a time that Hooks and Barbay will not mean the same to a new generation like it does to us now.  Same for Stud.  There are no doubt, some from last night who this didn't matter to.  It mattered to me because this man caused Silsbee to be a team to be reckoned with for a long time.  Golden Triangle fans, you ought to remember his name because he mattered in this area once upon a time.  He was a solid coach and I've always heard how much he tried to be a role model to his players.  Congrats to a great legacy.  These guys should not be over-looked just because they "faded away".  They are important to our communities.  I appreciated being able to be there last night and here the name Stud McGallion over the loud-speaker.  Congrats Coach.  I won't forget the Big Names I've had the pleasure to have seen their handy-work....
  5. Last night, Kevin Smith, myself and others, were talking about the old greats of WO-S.  Of course, Kevin was still a lad when these guys played.  But, the very first few teams the Mustangs had were just sick with talent.  First backfield was Ernest Anderson (a junior) and Tony January (a senior). For backfield ever for the Mustangs, fall of '77.  Next year was Ernest and Kerry Franks.  Just plain sick with talent.  Good times talking about it last night and taking a trip down memory-lane.  MANY special athletes have walked the halls at WO-S.  Yep, 'ole Plug was super.  Should have won the heisman, IMO....
  6. If at the end of the process, we find that it was a strategic plan to hire a certain "kind" of person, there is only one word for that.  At it's not one that society likes to deal with.  BUT, I don't hide under a rock.  I will wait to see if the SUPERINTENDANT allows (quietly drives) this process to be twisted away from a "no-brainer" decision to a certain "choice" of person.... That will not sit well with me, nor should it ANYONE.
  7. Grad, I know it's just a typo.  But, Liberty vs. WO-S  Div II
  8. Well, the Y got left out of birthday...  Oh well...
  9. Kerry Cooper - hope you had / having a great birthday.  Thanks for the change in weather.  You better be good to all of us first week of the playoffs next weekend.......
  10. PN-G should NEVER forget the joy of that championship.  They are not easy, so when you get one, cherish it FOREVER....  No jab at any other team in the area, but I will tell you,  statewide conversations always include WO-S and PN-G when people find out you are from the Golden Triangle.  Just a fact.  Hey, WO-S was THE place to be in Texas, during the 80's.  Coach Hooks mentioned the old gun-slinger the other night that may have slowed down a little but nobody wants to face him.  Well, it's the case with PN-G and WO-S....  They are KNOWN around the state and respected.... Also, that picture is someting that the GOLDEN TRIANGLE should be proud of......
  11. Our district dang near had two State Champs that year....  Could EASILY have happened.....  That would have been really, really awesome....
  12. 21-10.    14-10 at the time.  We had Turquois Rigss, also.  We had some really good personnel.  Bottom line, we will never know.....  Some really great one's through the years....  See everyone friday...
  13. BoobandBlair - Your posts are so full of a "hidden agenda", it 'aint funny.  My gut tells me you are someone that is so jealous of Cornel Thompson, you can't stand it.  You are not making a case for "making a case for a guy, or building one choice up", rather, "an all out desire to run one guy down".  It's very easy to see you have a strong slant toward tearing down a guy who needs "no introduction".  His body of work is unmmatched.  Having said that, WT is a guy that Cornel has strong admiration and respect for.  When you get on here and start assaulting the names of  an Alex Durley, Chief Wilson, Curtis Barbay, Larry Neaumann, Dan Hooks, Doug Ethridge, Stud McGallion, or the Cornel Thompson's of the Southeast Texas World, you are showing your willful face of running a guy down.  You wreek with jealousy if you merely analyze your posts.  The post was about who is the best DC in the area, which if somewhat subjective.  However, you only advance to stupidity by concentrating your post on "why Cornel is bad" - that wasn't the intent of the post.  I won't dignify anymore response going forward - no matter how you respond - Cornel is something you won't ever be - just a fair guess......  Regards..........
  14. The Mustangs issues last night are things that can be fixed. That's the good thing. We have the tools. I agree with Gas... The time is NOW. No doubt our coaches know that... Gotta work, work, work, work..... Keep maturing and gaining experience and overcome the mental mistakes....
  15. The overall education of a person is not just math and science. It's ALL THE STUFF that EDUCATES a child to PREPARE FOR LIFE. The life-lessons gained through various activities (sports, debate, band, choir, drill team, cheerleading, national honor society, student-government), cannot all be learned in algebraic expressions and chemical calculations..... I'm ashamed and embarrassed for the ONE'S in the school district leadership who have dreamed up such an ignoramous idea. It is fairly obvious that there is a "calculated agenda" by Barclay and Buddies to sabotage Football at WO-S. Personal agendas for retribution is despicable. I share the same opinion that some educators have shared in their responses. The SUPERINTENDANT needs take some LEADERSHIP in this and cease worrying about his job / tenure. Easier said than done. Perhaps Rosa Parks could teach him something!!!!! Doesn't he read the "Black Heritage Posters" when he visits the schools and listens to the stories about these things? Honest Abe would be so sad to know this...... I hope and pray for a merger with North Orange and for ONE high school in Orange. It appears it's the only thing that will make that high school like it used to be because our leadership is destroying a "once proud tradion". A Degree is something you hang on the wall. An EDUCATION, well, that is something all together different!!!!!
  16. ETBU, the family is fine. Sitting here by the fireplace watching this "debacle" in Philly. Look forward to another get-together one day with you, Gasilla, HEB, the Twins, and Gostangs...... Hope 2009 is healthy and prosperous to you and the folks. Thanks for asking..... Kerry, me and the family went to Iron Works last night; kinda tired of Turkey and Dressing now.... The guy that runs the place (a friend) gave our 6 yr. old (Grant Major) a signed baseball from Huston Street for Christmas last night- adding to his Longhorn Collection.....
  17. Kerry, I'll settle this now: Iron Works BBQ - downtown Austin....
  18. My brother was sitting by me in the stands and I remember him telling us that you had to take a snap inside the 20. We strongly suspected / hoped throughout the game this was correct. When Dan jumped nearly through the roof of that glorious palace, I was pretty danged happy about that...... Yes, I remember him jumping like he did, throwing his fist skyward. Has to be a Mustang Memory for all of us that have plenty. Here's hoping he can win one more......
  19. Well, ever since I was small and first started reading Texas Football Magazine, nothing rings in your ear this time of year, better than the term Mr. Campbell fondly use - The Texas Schoolboy Playoffs. This is where the energy picks up and the water fountain conversation gets a little louder. The Golden Triangle is rich in history this time of year. From the time of watching Steve Worster run crazy at Bridge City, watching Little Joe Washington produce jaw-dropping moves, following PN-G's MASSES, jumping on the Alex Durley train and miracle run in '82, and then following my Mustangs for all these years, well, it's just special. Everyone enjoy and NEVER forget our freedom and blessings we have in this country. Hoping for a Mustang Christmas!!!!! Fasten your seatbelts......
  20. Sorry, that would be important to conclude the story with. Liberty Hill scored with 3 second left to win 36-29. AFTER getting the ball after the onsides-kick....
  21. So get this: I was reading the Austin Unamerican-Statesman when I got back to Austin. Burnet scored last night with less than 30 seconds left to make it 28-27 Liberty Hill. They then went for two and made it; 29-28 Burnet. THEN, they on-side kicked. WHAT? Liberty Hill recovered, and after a penalty on the next play, Liberty Hill was at about the 25 of Burnet Obviously, you know that Liberty Hill scored to win with like 3 seconds left. Man, what an idiotic thing to on-side kick and cut the field in half for Liberty Hill. They are very lucky they didn't lose. This has to be about as stupid a decision that can be made on the gridiron. I guess the coach was hoping to catch them by surprise but you just can't do that....
