  1. Is there anything better (don't answer - it's rhetorical). I'm proud of the Golden Triangle thus far. The 3-AAA and 4-AAA leagues laid the hammer down!!!! Last thing I'll say - don't ever count the Nederland Bulldogs out when they are smelling the playoffs. I know I "hate 'em when we play 'em" but they flat out get the motor running when it's time to........ Steady dose of Micah Might Mend Memories................. Silsbee has as good a shot as anyone now in Div I......
  2. I agree that Barry should stand his ground and do what's best for his team. No doubt. Having said that, I just believe the game should be in TEXAS. Both coaches can choose where they want and it simply comes to a flip. Obviously, Barry won the flip..... I would just flip for a big venue for Texarkana people not having to go to HP's backyard.
  3. ETBU, I totally agree. HP has a reputation of not playing in the sand box with others fairly....
  4. I don't blame Barry for making that happen. HP is going to want their way. It just seems wrong to me to spend the money in Louisiana. I can see all angles though......
  5. It's just my opinion, but this should not be allowed. I don't like some of the things that the UIL (and the government) dictates. But, tax dollars on these TEXAS high school games should be spent in TEXAS. I know there are opposing points to this, but overall, that's my opinion..... Thanks for the info ETBU....
  6. I'm just not getting anything done. I know several of you out there are being way too productive. These football playoffs are just getting in my way....... Oh well, I guess it can stay there!!!!
  7. I was talking with some people at work about how fortunate we are to live in a country where we can enjoy and anticipate activities we like to be involved with - like Texas Schoolboy Playoffs. There has been a great price paid by those of the Greatest Generation to keep our peace here in America. Take the opportunity to thank the Lord for this blessing!!! We may never know what life would be like now if not for prices paid on an altar of sacrifice.
  8. Some things I've learned about the playoffs: Neutral doesn't mean the same as it used to. There's nothing like seeing a bracket / pairing and your team is missing. Close games tend to be tougher on the heart than a regular season game. Winning tradition seems to matter. MOST local fans remember how they really care about their "area" and support local teams when their own team loses. A sense of "community and area" comes out in us. Fans are into "every series" moreso than regular games. Your work week centers around "this weekend" like no other week. Winning a Title "'aint cheap"......
  9. Last comment - I am so proud of the charactar of the West Orange-Stark kids. For years, I've seen the remarkable young guys who hang with the program and leave here after going through this program. You rarely see personal fouls and trash talking from our kids. I know there are people in the area that would like to paint a different perception, but these kids are willing to pay the price and be better people because of what they learn under Hooks and company...... Stang4life - thank you for the fine two young guys you raised. When Earl was in my home here in Austin, he was nothing short of a great representative of his up-bringing. Thank the Lord for fine young guys like Earl Thomas......
  10. A couple of things. The PI called on BC in the end zone was as easy a call as you will ever see. It was clearly PI. Also, Earl did push-off and it wasn't called. He made an athletic play and got away with it. Had it been a close game and a "deciding-factor", it would be something to talk about then. WO-S could have easily won by much more if they wanted to. There was no intent to rub it in on the Bridge. Also, Gostangs said it best about the school who faces more depletion then anyone around - it's WO-S. We are the best year in and year out due to coaching and continuity (others have talent but they don't sustain it every year like the 'Stangs do). I personally wish BC had beaten Kirbyville so I could have seen some more red show up for the game. I would rather the Cards go to the playoffs, also. Lastly, I wish like heck that Johnny played for WO-S. He would really help us and it would be nice to get to see him use his talents for a team like WO-S (that is not a shot at BC) this year. Kid has heart and will give it his all. Very much like a MUSTANG....... I knew Bridge City would come and compete. They are just way too down this year to make it a closer game.
  11. I thought about this for a while and this isn't a "homer" vote. I say Dan Hooks. Here's why: loses a great player in Beasley, comes back with a totally green QB, loses two would be starters in the OL that should be playing, faces continual declining enrollment, opens at DAYTON - the 4-AAAA league champ (on the road ), fights through a painful leg injury at 68 years old, I could go on and on. I do see some options but I just think that overall, he gets my vote. Others that could be options are Stewart and Moody. I just say Dan Ray Hooks for numerous reasons....... Man flat out knows how to get it done and how to put the right people in place and empower them to coach......
  12. When you are trouncing a team, it's hard to fight hard on every single down. Should you? Yes. Play usually drops off some. If WO-S wanted to win 60-7, they probably could have. You don't play as hard late, and Orangefield is playing hard on every down 'cause they are tough and their kids don't quit. The whole Giddings thing is a topic for another day. The two just don't relate IMO....
  13. Liberty or Shepherd will probably be decided week 10......
  14. Each district executive committee has it's own rules that govern the district. Whatever rules the 4-AAAA league for the Golden Triangle has in place would have to be checked. If KFDM is saying he already knows what that district's rules are, then he is right. If, however, the committee doesn't have the "head-to-head" established as the rule, it probably is points in the "tie scenario". Bobcatfan4life is exactly correct..... KFDM - do you already know it's "head to head"? Man, those things get your stomach churning when your team is involved......
  15. You know the famous words of Patrick Henry, "Give me Liberty or give me.......Shepherd".
  16. Kicker, they are probably thinking something like- " the Lord is my Shepher...... Yea though I walk through the valley......" Just possibly????
  17. This game could have gone either way. Both teams had opportunities to win. I really believed it would be a very good game. Silsbee always brings their A-Game when playing the Mustangs. The only think that I was curious about was "which" Silsbee team would show up. To me, Silsbee is an enigma. By that I mean, they have always been an up and down team. One week, they can be tremendous and the next week they can lose to someone they have no business losing to. I have seen this for years. Consistency has always been a thorn in their side so I wondered which team would suit up last night. I totally thought it would be the better one I we saw that to be the case. Silsbee is dangerous. From a "Mustang pair of glasses", I can see the "shooting ourselves in the foot" suggestions. Now, if you were a Silsbee fan, we would see it through a different pair of glasses and viewpoint and I think they are both basically correct. This game was in doubt to the very end. That is a testament to two schools with good tradition. I congratulate Silsbee and their staff for coming in prepared and ready. You always see the games where Silsbee is putting the ball on the ground alot and having miscues. Not so last night and I thought that would be the case. THAT is the reason that the game was like it was - Silsbee just flat shows up for WO-S. WO-S is 7-0 and that is simply a testament to the Mustang Program. Talent doesn't hurt for sure, but believing you are supposed to win and having continuity within a staff is monumental. Hey, I was extremely impressed with the new Silsbee facility. It was my first time to see it. My hats off to Silsbee with what is the best stadium in Southeast Texas - bar none..... Silsbee COULD do some damage for several rounds in the playoffs if they can find some consistency and stay focused. It was a great game and I think that is very good for Southeast Texas. I will promise you that Stud McGallion would have been pleased with the effort!!!!!
  18. Silsbee is the biggest "up and down" team in Southeast Texas. They always have been IMO. You never know which Silsbee team is gonna show up. I have never been able to figure them out. Do I think WO-S is the better team? Yes, without question. However, that doesn't make a sure win. Silsbee will come out friday night and be crazy. I agree with Gostangs. They will be really ready to play WO-S. Any Mustang player reading the message boards better take to heart that a LOSS can easily be there if you don't show up and play with the execution and intensity it will take. We will get Silsbee's best effort. Matchups? Silsbee is going to lineup and come straight at us and option it to death. Our Chain-Gang better show up and prepare all week. I'll guarantee that Cornel, Mark Foreman, Eddie Dyer, and Roy Locks will preach this all week. It's time to play a real game you haven't seen in a few weeks........ Time to prepare is NOW.......................... Gasilla will tell you quickly that you better hunker down in that line and worry about how we match up there.............
  19. Matt Nader, offensive lineman who has committed to Texas fro next year, collapsed tonight during the Westlake at A&M Consolidated game. He had to be recussitated. I think he is ok. I heard it on the news / sports this evening in Austin. I know that Matt has gotten to be friends with Gooch.... Prayers with Matt and his family...
  20. The decision was made to not red-shirt Deon. This is simply due to Brandon Foster looking silly on Saturday. I expect Deon to get some snaps and some experience on Saturday against Rice......
  21. Fact - Beasley has decided to red-shirt. As of yesterday after practice, this is STILL firm. There are others on the team who are older and have much more experience at this point. Fact - to jdawg's point; coaches can say get your tail in the game at any moment due to situations. However, that's HIGHLY unlikely at this point........
  22. I Buy it.... WO-S will get to at least the semi-finals again. If (we should) we get past a second round match with Giddings, we'll be fine. I think our lines will be better and we know we have the skill people to compete with ANYBODY in Texas... Buy or Sell - Texas finds out they can still win big without Vince. Texas plays for the national title with great defense, strong running game, and by winning several close games.
  23. I didn't really like the movie, either. It seemed superficial to me. It didn't really bother me that they changed the semifinals to being a "final championship game". That's the way movies seem to be. It was not anywhere near as good as Remember The Titans. Although they jacked around with some of the facts in that one as well, it was very well acted and "pulled me into the show". Hey, that's what makes the world go 'round - different tastes. One of these days, someone might just make a little 'ole movie about this little area in Southeast Texas - the REAL "hot-bed" for high school football!!!!
  24. I stood on the track at Pflugerville High School and watched a little bit of the filming one night. The "home" team wears Pflugerville's uniforms. They were playing against a team suited up in Westlake's uniforms the night I was there. Seems like it was in February that I saw those scenes being filmed.
