1.
pissed is an understatement...defensive came to play and for the most part played well
The Defense is looking better and are showing improvement.  They played well considering the situations they are put in.  He!!, I think they have to play 2/3 or more of every game.  It takes some grit to dig down deep and come right back on after you made it off the field.  Specially to do it over and over.
2. an A&M game was one of the first FBS games announced early on.  I think that may be the first iteration that hasn't been cleaned up on that site.  I would bet the current Hawaii, OSU, then A&M is still accurate.
3.
Great job defense. First shut out in how long?
21 years!  Feels good.
4. Here's a youtube with their current qb on the roster.  I guess it was last year's vid [Hidden Content]
5. Just out of attendance curiosity found this webpage:   [Hidden Content] Interesting: 1989  avg  1-A  41,970        1-AA  11,020 2009  avg  1-A  46,281        1-AA    8,654 The page has breakdown by conf's etc.  They slice and dice all the numbers....
6. Oh yeah ... forgot to mention. Coach Conway in "on the evil side now"  :)
7. Yep, Sam.  McNeese was a good/clean rivalry but the Sam black rose and subsequent fight after our 2pt loss over there in '88 followed by our "Rose Bowl II" 41-0 beatdown we gave them over here in '89 - it was getting fun.  I think the Greater Houston recruiting wars helped fuel some of that.
8. It's all good.  We're rollin' now.  LU has a heck of a lot to offer now and in the coming years.  Hopefully these programs can feed, recruit, and build off of each other.
9.
basketball as always.
Put these three answers together and the picture comes into focus ... back then there was a basketball only click (Let's be a bigtime basketball only school like those in the NorthEast). Anyway, Lamar is back and beyond the 80's politics and the southern newspaper.

Lamar is, for all intent and purposes, still a DI-AA school, not DI (regardless of whether it's called FCS or DI-AA...you know what I mean). I'm still living in the past on that one...ha! And waiting for the day the BCS collapses (it's coming) and we return to the original labels.
I don't like the FBS FCS stuff either and think the DI-AA and DI-A is more descriptive for the football subdivisions for DI.  But I understand why they changed the name.  To many people "out of the know" were getting DI-AA confused with Division II
Many DII schools are better than the average FCS school. Ask UCA...
I asked them this morning and they said that if many are better then most must not be ... cussed me out, then hung up on me.  ;D

12. At one point I remember reading some speculation on what enrollment would need to be in order to help support FBS level Conference competition/travel for all sports based on the current athletic fee per hour (I think is $8.75/hour).  Seems like the 16k was tossed around then.
13. Glad to hear that - hope it plays out that way.  LU will have a solid group of Lumberton guys (already do).
14. UoH probably made this camp madatory for their Cougar after the Oregon Duck incident a few years back!  Hopefully they worked them into shape! [Hidden Content]
15. McNeese has good crowds.  They had 14000 at the game I went to last year.  Coulda, whoulda, shoulda ... series should be 19-13-1.  The 1988 game at their place we lost by 1 point (18-17)- that stings.  A windstorm blew up right before we were going to kickoff and the stadium lights went out.  I remember being glad we weren't going down the field full tilt at the time. Can't wait for game time!
16. If the Big 12 replenishes then it could be good for Lamar.  But if, lets say, those three conf's merge into two larger conf's to try and keep up with "big brothers" I think that would be bad.  They'd be full with maybe the Sunbelt left to pick up somebody (which I think going back to the Sunbelt would be good for Lamar).
17.
Any way one of you guys could sneak in and take some pictures of the stadium. I live in Houston now and never get a chance of going back that way. I would love to see how it is looking. I love the webcam but it does not show the stadium, just the fieldhouse.
This segment has some of the stadium at the end.... [Hidden Content]
18.
.... I would like to see how many of those players were transfers from big FBS schools. My point is if Ben comes to LU he will still have a chance to go pro if he works hard.
I should have stated my point as plainly as you just did instead of illistrating with the Bomar reference and with the old LU reference, only one of the four that I know was drafted was Shavers ...  he wouldn't necessarily be "done" if he isn't drafted - he would come out better but not necessarily done.
19. I agree.  Last year, SHSU's QB was drafted and Texas Tech's QB wasn't.  Heck, LU's 1989 roster had 4 guys play in the NFL.
20.
... May not be the best outcome but maybe it can help with recruiting by mentioning kids will be playing at Hawaii and potentially a Big 12 school or two during their time in Beaumont.
You never know  Hawaii was almost the 4th opening week FCS/FBS casualty last year.  They eked out a T with under 2 minutes in the game to go up by 5 pts against UCA.
21. He may not recruit as many.  If he likes what he has they'll be wellseasoned and increasingly loaded for bear in. 2 3 and 4
22. "LIMITATIONS: NCAA rules state that only 90 Student-Athletes can participate during the assigned preseason (two-a-days) workouts. This number (90) includes scholarship and non scholarship student-athletes. Once school starts, the Lamar athletic department has capped the total roster limitation to a total of 100 for scholarship and non-scholarship student-athletes." Should be ok for this year.  The only thing I see is next years recruiting class.  There aren't many seniors (if any).  There will be some position battles to stay under the 100.
23. Looks like flip-flop schedules for men and women's.  I wonder if they will have any non-conf men/women double header games?
24. Great Job!   Bring it back after half!!  Lady Cards have been tearing up some #@$! 1st half 42 - 27
25. Looks like the rise and run of hill/stands in the south endzone would come up just under the second floor of the athletic complex and then skirt the building on the East and West above it (then above in the middle).  Sort of like the opening in one FIU's stadium endzones.  Might just be like that for future contingency plans.   [Hidden Content]
