1. Ryan Hunter went to Fordham, he was a beast. There were also 2 brothers who played in the late 80's and early 90's, cant remember the names.
2. Luke Jackson 1 on 1 fast break, guard tried for the strip and Lukie windmilled it home. I had a great view, I was the guy that got dunked, best seat in the house for that one.
3. I really dont think at this point WO-S has to earn anyone's respect, they have proved themselves throughout the last 25 years. However, if you really cant find someone who can punch an XP through, then I am sorry, this may be the chink in Hook's armor. "We'll punch it in for 2!" is how you win district, not state.
4. Oh, and what score would you put with UCONN women vs Duke men (with the men NOT going 4 corners and taking it easy). I say 120 - 32. Duke vs Yates boys 90 - 35.
5. Anyone who thinks UConn would win more than 1 of these games is insane. I remember way back when our HS varsity team used to scrimmage the Lamar Lady Cards the year they went to the Great 8. We were last in our 4A district, and we absolutelty murdered them every time. They were by no means the quality of UConn, and the womens game has improved, but Great 8 aint bad, and I think we won a total of 3 games all season. In college we were at Vanderbilt for a conference, and we ended up scrimmaging the Lady Commodores (who were a top 5 team). All of us were 6 ft and under, and we embarrassed those girls. Sorry, the just is no comparison.
6. OK, I think we need to start talking about NEXT years Ozen coach, there can be no way they keep this guy. Ozen should never bow out in the first round.
7.
Utah had a good recruiting season. Texas needs to get these type of guys
I hope your joking, I think Texas does just fine by hand picking the top kids in the state
8. Those old pictures are great, keep em coming. That PA team looks like they dont have a guy over 200lbs.
9. PAM hangs around for a while, but Yates is not just a top team in TX, but the entire country. PAM gives a valiant effort, down by 10 at half, falls 89-63.
10. It seems like the soccer section of this site is the bastard child, there are big tourneys going on, and I have not seen any scores. Unfortunately I do live in the area, can anyone take the point on this and be the official score poster? It would be much appreciated and keep out of town fans more involved in the soccer section. Whoever picks up the slack will be greatly rewarded!
11. Great for Ozen, but yeah, who did they play? No matter who, it is still great to see them playing well.
12. It is hilarious to think Yates could play with Lamar, whoever thought this has no basketball intellect beyond Jack Yates HS, which somehow became the premier bball HS in the country after winning 1 state 4A title. Hmmmmm. Lamar, Sam Houston, UTSA, any of these teams win by 50 (unless they try to embarrass Yates and press the whole game, then by 75.)
13. There are no POWERHOUSES in the golden triangle (as per the rest of the state) but if you had to pick one program from our area it would absolutely be Nederland, hands down. They may not be the best every year, but always at the top, and speaking w/ other folks around the state, NHS is the only area team that comes up in any soccer conversations (though PNG, LCM, Lumberton have earned respect as well). f you could pick 1 team from our area in each sport that is the POWERHOUSE, would you pick Lumberton in football? NO! 2 years in the playoffs dont make you a POWERHOUSE, it would go to WOS, with WB a close second. Do you pick NHS as a POWERHOUSE in basketball after 1 year in the playoffs? NO! Ozen, hands down has the most state wide respect (HJ, Koutze earned there praise too). Sorry to ramble, but I see such inane comments from people that "know" soccer because they played it in 3rd grade, I cant help myself.
14. After Jan 23, Nederland only has 6 real games, they have to load up on the tourney schedule. Hopefully they can get another scrimmage after district/ before playoffs to get ready.
15. I understand wanting the 3rd stringers to get there chance to score some points, but seems like when your up by 50 in the 1Q, there would be plenty of time for the bench bunch. As for the starters needing to get in their work, seems like practice against the 2nd string is much more work than Lee. This coach needs to learn from some of the older coaches, Boutte always called the dogs of early, and is one of the most respected coaches in Texas.
16. I also would not mind seeing WB, PAM or some of the upper 4A schools get a regular game going with some Louisiana teams, good border rivalry.
17. I think NHS does it right, WOS (a top 3A team) then a mediocre 4A playoff team (Willis, Waller) and then a power 4A team (Friendswood, Brenham). Playing a 5A power like Katy does NHS no good, just get run over, hard to execute, which is what you are trying to get done predistrict.
18. Bring it home for the GT, it has been too long w/out a football championship!
19. Old gyms are the best, it seemed the older the gym, the better I played.
