  1. Newton is going to be in for a rude awakening when they meet up with the Buckeyes in 2018. Then they will know the difference in the top teams of the different classes. Gilmer won't have 1 D1 recruit next year, unless Bran Webb gets an offer. Rockdale would've gave Newton all they wanted this year. They had just as many studs as Newton. P5 QB and WR on that team too.
  2. #3 and #7 are both commited to Sam Houston. Listen we have had plenty of D1 recruits, All Americans, Texas POY. In most cases those players didn't win Carthage championships. IMO Carthage 2 most important players have a combined zero offers. They will probably play JUCO ball. D1 doesn't mean that much to me. Newton has had a buncha D1 athletes. But Carthage has 6 championships. This is a dumb conversation. Anybody that thinks Newton would have even played Carthage close in 2017 is crazy. Y'all will see when you play Gilmer next season. Be about like when y'all got woodshedded by Henderson a couple years ago.
  3. Some of you guys need to put down the pipe. Carthage would've scored on every possession against Newton. Newton had an awesome season, but don't go overboard. Carthage is 3 divisions higher than Newton. That would be like Carthage saying they would've beat Manvel or HP. The best quote I have seen is that Carthage WR wouldn't have big days against Newton DB's. Hahaha. The game wouldn't have been within 4 scores unless Surratt wanted it to be.
  4. Carthage hadn't won a championship ever. Had only played in 1 in the history of the program. In the 7 years prior to Surratt arriving in 2007, Carthage had 2 1-9 seasons. Had not been out of the 2nd round of the playoffs in that decade. Surratt comes to town and 11 years later he has more championships than playoff losses. The jimmies and joes did not change. Coaching matters.
  5. Haha. For real. I read a couple articles about him this week. This is what it's all about.
  6. Yea they just got the athletes. Newton got some 5a athletes. Gunter and Brock just got schooled by athletic teams. I'll tell you what #10 didn't have big numbers on the season, but that dude is a legit WR. I like him on this team. Great teams always gotta have that bad-a white wideout. I love it. I really like this Newton team. Enjoyed watching them. I'm telling y'all Newton vs Rockdale would be a barn burner. I would take Newton though.
  7. Man these boys are not ready for Newton. Newton has some studs. Great team on both sides. Don't see many teams that talented in 3a. Would love to see Rockdale vs Newton. Man that would be awesome to see. R3 is loaded in 3a.
  8. Exactly. The school board who is elected by the people is the one giving the raises ultimately. We have had some people that didn't like it run for the school board. Guess what, they lost. I have no problem with people saying we pay Surratt too much. We want to win, and have had a lot invested in the FB program. Look at the facilities if you get a chance. They will make some D1 colleges blush. But then also look at how much participation we have in football. We have 6a numbers with an enrollment of 794. We are carrying over 70+ kids on the varsity right now. Had 67 kids on the regular season roster. I think we had 130 out for 7th and 8th grade or something crazy. That's like 70% of the boys. This year we have 33 seniors on the team. That is a huge number for 4a teams. That is like 35-40% of boys still playing football in the senior class. That is worth a lot in my book. The lessons these boys learn on the football field will take them much farther then the lessons learned in a HS classroom. That just my opinion from my own personal experience. I know that's not always the case.
  9. He has done so much for the Carthage community. He has earned every penny.
  10. Scott Surratt is the 2nd highest paid coach in Texas at $154,900. Texas Tribune has an article about it.
  11. I don't know. I can see both teams scoring. It's just that Carthage won't stop scoring, and Kennedale at some point will after Carthage adjust to their offense. I think this is fairly high scoring game. Something like 45-28 Carthage. Heck Carthage and La Vega were arguing who was the #1 D in 4a, and it was a 46-39 final score, lol.
  12. There is no way in hell Carthage is getting held to 28. Kennedale's last 4 opponents have scored 28, 36, 43, and 28. None of those teams are close to Carthage. Carthage just scored 46 on La Vega who was giving up 9 ppg. I don't think this one will be close. Very bad matchup for Kennedale.
  13. No! If Silsbee wants to have a payback, then that's the sport to do it in. It might even be more lopsided than the football game, just the other way around.
  14. No. Carthage started slow that game and then outscored them 35-0. Beat them by 20. I'm not a big homer, but if you think there 50-60 teams in 6a that will beat Carthage by 50 you are crazy. And this is a generational team. Best team we have ever had. Was WOS defense last year a generational defense? Yes I believe they were. Same goes for Carthage offense this year. 4a has never seen an offense this prolific. Carthage has played in a ton of big games the last 10 years, and I haven't seen an offense close to this. You guys just don't understand how bad we could have beaten good teams this year.
  15. I wouldn't get too worked up if I was a Silsbee fan. I don't think people believe Carthage fans when they say this is the best team we have ever seen at Carthage. Carthage could be scoring 80 a game if they wanted. Nobody will stay within 14 points of Carthage this year. You saw last night what we love about Surratt and the reason sometimes Carthage is not given their due. It could've easily been 100-21 last night. Silsbee was not doing any more scoring coming out of the half. Surratt called it off and let y'all leave with a 64-36 loss. Even your area fans can say "I knew Silsbee would score" and "y'all put up 36 points on the #1 team". But the people at the game know better. Silsbee had a respectable season, and what looks like a good future. Congrats on a 3rd round appearance. Hope to see you guys again next year.
  16. Good luck to the Tiger team and fans tonight. It's been fun reading and going back and forth on the 2 sites. Carthage posters tend to go a little far sometimes. But everybody from Silsbee I have seen handled themselves well while being confident in their team. In the end both towns are lucky to get to go out in December at support their hometown boys. Heck anything can happen on a Friday night in December. Let's all make some noise for our teams tonight, and make this a memorable experience for the young men regardless of the outcome. Safe travels.
  17. I know you are being sarcastic, but I guarantee after the game you walk away thinking Carthage will win state.
  18. Carthage got a track star in the secondary too. 2 time defending state champ in the 400. He is a SR this year, and will end his career with 3 gold medals in that event. Yea, Carthage isn't exactly slow.
  19. Agree. I don't think anybody is saying Silsbee won't hit some big plays. Little Belichick and Preston will have a scheme that will try to limit those big plays. Carthage has to be very careful on special teams too. But I just don't believe Silsbee will line up and run the ball on Carthage consistently. I think early it will be close, and once Carthage D adjust to what Silsbee is doing the Dawgs will pull away. Very similar to the Kilgore game. If Silsbee can't run the ball they will throw 2+ interceptions. Carthage secondary has some ball hawks in Ware and Colbert. Carthage will score 40+. Just have to see if Silsbee offense can get it done. I am not taking a shot at Silsbee at all. I got Carthage in this one by 25+. Carthage is on another level this year. More like the 2008-2013 teams of the past. I think Silsbee fans can remember how bad of beatdowns Carthage was handing out during those years. Good luck to both teams and safe travels to all the fans in attendance.
  20. You don't know much about Carthage front 7.
  21. Just so we are clear Ahmad grew up in Carthage his whole life. Started for Carthage as a sophomore until he got injured late in the season. His mom got a job coaching in Crockett, and he went with her his junior year. He came back home for his senior year. I just don't want to hear any "recruiting" talk. Just thought I would clear it up.
  22. 2017 Carthage would beat 2016 Carthage by 20+. You boys are in for a treat. Better work on the passing game, cause nobody has run at will on this D this year. Silsbee will not consistently score if they cannot be balanced. If you try to compare Carthage D this year to when they played Silsbee last year you are very sadly mistaken. It's not even close. With that said Silsbee has the athletes to make it a game. I also like the direction the new coach is taking the program. I love yalls offense. But this is not the year. This very well could be the best Carthage team we have ever had. In all seriousness gimme Carthage by 20+. Something like 48-24.
  23. Silsbee ready for their annual beating in Lufkin next week?
