Kountze @ Deweyville
Sabine River Pirate replied to Sabine River Pirate's topic in High School Football
Definitely understand the spread being 3-4 touchdowns by the results so far. I will throw in my unwanted 2 cents after watching the team the first two games. This is not intended to discredit Kelly or Hemphill. In the Kelly game it was a one point ball game at halftime. I believe the turnover margin was 5-1 in favor of Kelly. Lost the game by two scores. Hemphill scored on a fumble they picked up while on offense. One of those just like you drew it up plays. Score was 6-0 at halftime. Defense played a hell of a ball game. Hemphill's second TD was a 4th down prayer lobbed to the end zone. The turnover battle was 3-0 in favor of Hemphill. Add in a fourth down stop they made inside the 5 as well. Lost 20-8. Typical with a young team. Young men learning each Friday night and getting more comfortable as the season progresses. I'm going to say Deweyville takes care of the ball this week and creates a few turnovers to keep it closer than what the line is saying. Hell they win Friday night 26-20 ! -
Probably the toughest game on the schedule for the Pirates. Who y'all got ?

What Week 2 game(s) will you be attending?

Deweyville @ Hemphill -
Heart says Deweyville if I'm betting on this game Hemphill. Deweyville overall is young. They have solid pieces on both sides of the ball and glaring weaknesses that must be addressed or it could be a long season ahead. I mentioned this in another post but the new Hemphill head coach really held his guys accountable. I only saw what was put out on social media so I can only imagine how the in person meetings went. For someone to come in to a program that is at rock bottom and get a week 1 win against a potential playoff team speaks volumes. I will be there to support the Pirates and hope the right moves are made during the week to improve the team for Friday night.

Best win, worst loss of Week 1 (coverage area)
Sabine River Pirate replied to AggiesAreWe's topic in High School Football
Best win for me was Hemphill. 1 win in two years leading up to Friday night and dominated West Hardin. Worst loss ( not an upset ) was Kountze losing to Buna by 20. -

I noticed Kelly is favored against Deweyville at nearly a 4-1 ratio. Why is it so tilted to Kelly? All thoughts and opinions welcome

Week 1, What game(s) will you be attending?

Friday I'll be in Deweyville watching the Pirates square off with Kelly. -
In the controlled portion of the scrimmage Hardin -3 Deweyville -1 In the live quarter Hardin 2 Deweyville 0 Overall Deweyville didn't have the size and speed to match Hardin. It was the same as last week for the Pirates defense is well ahead of the offense. Deweyville is young and growing pains are part of achieving success.

Deweyville and Warren started sloppy. Overall Deweyville will have a stout defense if they stay healthy. The offense is a work in progress had a few explosive plays and a few missed opportunities. In live action Deweyville -1 Warren - 0 Take aways for both teams is about the same. Defense will be the strength of the team while the offense figures things out.

Deweyville I called 2+ district wins last season. They were less than 10 possessions from accomplishing that prediction. District will expand this year with the top 3 teams out ahead of everyone. I can see where they could be in play for the fourth playoff spot. But the minimum goal for this years squad is 3+ district wins.

I have no clue . If what is being said is true and it is something I have witnessed first hand, he may be humbled. Which is so.ething that needs to happen. -

😂 Pure talent he would push to start. Current issues I was hoping he would overcome, he would not start at Silsbee. -

I was hoping some of that had changed with him. I've watched him play about 10 times over the last 3 years and I coached him for a tournament during the summer. Attitude was an issue. Humbleness is not a trait he poses currently. 15 year old Freshman has time to figure it out. -
