  1. They're a bunch of new schools coming in Houston and Dallas, the cutoff number for 5A is going up not down. Cleveland is making the jump. The only way Ozen stays up is if BISD keeps them there. Lumberton will be interesting do they have an alternative school? If so they stay up. All these schools we used to think of as small that are northeast of Houston (Cleveland Splendora etc) are going to be 6A in a few years because everyone is moving to be near I69 since its so convenient to downtown. Even Livingston will become a big 5A in the next few years. Beaumont seem like its the only place in Texas not growing. It's so sad.
  2. If you read between the lines you know where my heart lies and why I said what I said. I've been fooled too many times over the years. Good job tonight.
  3. I don't think UT best quarterback is on the 40 Arces right now. He's still in Mid County. As for Elia vs RJ its really splitting hairs. They're both great and as long as they keep winning on Fridays we'll be able to watch both on Saturdays.
  4. LCM has the talent but they haven't shown they can win this type of game. Sadly they're going to get down early and come up short. Silsbee is winning this district and this game by at least two touchdowns.
  5. I would like to see a little chaos in the playoff picture but it really looks like Nederland is back. Its gonna be close though. 24-20 Nederland. Good luck Jags!
  6. I think it ought to be split into two polls- 6A/5A and then everyone else. WOS is the best program in the area but they wouldn't beat West Brook. And if WOS had to play a 5A/6A schedule week end week out they'd have a few losses. Not a knock on the above schools, but it's hard to compare the schools fairly when there such a disparity in enrollment. Ranking schools against their peers seems to be a better route. I believe the Enterprise used to do separate rankings for big schools and small schools in the late 90s early 2000s. I know there's not a lot of big schools in the area anymore but if there are schools outside the area but they're in the district they ought to be in the rankings. I have the same quibble with the chrons rankings West Brook and WOS need to show up in their weekly area rankings Y'all are sister papers. You can make it happen.
  7. WB will keep it closer this year but they're still not in the same zipcode when it comes to being a legit threat to topping the Highlanders. 42-20. It would help if they could keep a coach longer than 3-4 years. BISD gotta pay more for 6A or even the schools to make them all 5A.
  8. Since when is Nederland Vidor a rivalry game? Nederland has one rival - PNG. It's been a better contest the past few years but historically this series has been sporadic and one sided in Nederland's favor. If Nederland had a second rival, it would be West Orange - Stark. WOS has no rival (LCM don't count because 2 wins in 30 some odd games don't cut it). I guess Vidor got too big for their annual game against Lumberton to call that their rivalry game. Most schools aren't lucky enough to have a rival that the other team feels the same mutual hate/respect. Just because you play each other every year doesn't make you peers.
  9. I've seen both districts. 22 5A is better. Port Arthur and PNG will be in the state quarterfinals if they get a good draw. Each of them are playing at least 3 or 4 games. Nederland is back. They're going to surprise people with their toughness. I look forward to the playoffs.
  10. 70 easily. Just depends. Most coaches have called it quits early in the third quarter. If you're looking for a game just watch the first quarter. You will be fooled thinking Livingston stands a chance.
  11. That was baby brook. Before that it was Hebert before they merged with forest park to become West Brook. Central was the merger of old BISD BCP and French.
  12. I wouldn't go to far. Everyone has passed on this team. Tarkington, Diboll, Caney Creek. I say this knowing Nederland could have easily dropped 70 80 points last night if they didn't stop trying midway in the third quarter. Nederland did what it was supposed to do beat a bad team and they played sound football. As long as they do that they'll make the playoffs. Good luck with the rest of your season.
  13. I hope everyone that wants to come back to Port Arthur gets back. The titans are clearly the best team in the league and possibly this region.
  14. My son brought home a revised schedule. Livingston and PNG play sub varsity games next Wednesday. I'm pretty sure the coaches know the rules better than us arm chair quarterbacks.
  15. Kinda eerie. Its not nearly as crowded as its been in the past and the crowd is quiet, even before big downs. guess it because everyone has work and school in the morning. Nederland rode here in style. Do they always take charters for longer road trips?
  16. Last time I was at memorial stadium was when Lincoln and TJ still existed. It was pretty hard to get a spot even though they have a huge parking lot. That was a fun rivalry. Damn discrimination order settlement. So yes I would agree.
  17. No they can move sub varsity games. I gotta change my schedule now to fit a few in. Be on the lookout for revised schedules as they work it out.
  18. Nederland wins by at least 30. Livingston let a suspect Caney Creek walk all over them. I saw the freshman last week and Nederland is fast. I like natural grass over turf as long as its maintained. The stadium is small and the parking is iffy but. The only places with decent parking is beaumont and Lumberton. Everywhere else it's get there early or walk a few miles. District game road trips ought to be less intense next year with 5A division 1 and 2. My road trips will be along I-69 in Cleveland, Caney Creek, and spledora. (Keeping fingers crossed because that where Livingston would have been if not for the fiasco) You only gotta make the trip once. I make it every other week in the fall and every week in the spring.
  19. West Brook will never keep a decent coach paying that low. You should see what they pay 6A coaches in Houston. And if I were Memorials coach is be looking west to get a 30-40k raise. He's been successful for quite some time. At a certain point its got to be about the money.
  20. 41-14 Caney Creek. Good night
  21. Candy Creek 27, Livingston 0 at the half. Panthers throwing the ball all over the field; Lions have no answer.
  22. Livingston was practicing Friday. With the destruction southeast of here I'm wondering how this is going to work? It would be great if the kids could start next week but from what I hear its still in bad shape. They'd have to compress the schedule or split into zones.
  23. Livingston is probably the only team in 22-5a that's going to play this week. I don't know what that district is going to do. Once everyone is safe maybe they can split the district in zones and the top two in each zone goes to the playoffs. I don't see every team being ready to play starting week 3. A lot of Orange County will still be under water this week because of the releases from Sam rayburn dam.
  24. Couldn't they temporarily merge the school. I'm sure the school isn't big enough like FB Marshall which housed Marshall on one floor and Willoridge on the other due to mold issues. In any case. Its a bad situation for Kingwood I hate to hear that
  25. I'm prepared to get scorched for this take, but this rivalry game has been greatly diminished since Ozen opened up and then Central dropping down in class. This game doesn't help West Brook get ready for district at all. The Bruins need to play 6A teams in non district. BISD needs to either rezone so all the schools are legitamite 5A or quit making WB play uncompetitive games because the parents want to relive their glory days. Hebert and BCP play every year in district - that ought to be enough. At the very least, BISD should remove the Ozen game from the Bruins schedule because that's really a 4A school. If the goal is for all the schools to go far in the playoffs then the current state of the "Beaumont Bowl" hurts those chances.
