  1. I will be speaking on behalf of the family and for Dillon Duplant.  He has been advised by his doctor not to play any baseball until furthur notice because of a medical condition.  He will be seeking medical attention at Children's Hopsital in Houston to run more tests.  That is all the information available at this time.  It is a serious issue but with the right care he should be ok in the near future.

  2. Something that will probably go unnotice is the job the Fr. Paul Fregia (who hasn't seen the mound in a while) does.  Even though he gave up the run on Sac Fly and HBP steps up and gets the 3 outs before any furthur damage.  Way to clutch up in a very tough situation.  Did not find out what about on the Sac bunt, but still kept Vidor in a situation where they could win it in the 7th.

All in all, great job by the whole Vidor team today, because it took a total team effort.  Great job Rosanna for the updates it was awesome.  Way too clutch up Maxwell and Hagler.

  3. If Coach Thompson wants the job and I have heard he does, then it is a no brainer, he gets the job.  The program will keep running the exact same way it has the past 20 years or so.  No need for wholesale changes.  Coach T has earned the right to be the AD/Head Coach over everyone else, so lets give him the respect he deserves and hire him as the next Head Coach/AD at West Orange-Stark.  End of Story.
  4. Well Allen again as I figured would happen you missed the point I was making. Even though we totally believe in velocity we equally believe in command movement and health of the arm. My point is that as kids get older and they develop the fastball speed without a doubt it puts more stress on the arm because you will have generated more arm speed. In pointing out the mechanics of pitching no doubt that you need to be smooth but at the same time you need to be very athletic on the mound. That's why usually your shortstop is your best pitcher. I have seen many pitchers with slow deliberate deliveries hurt themselves because they don't use their core enough and they throw the ball with mainly their arm.

Again I want to reiterate my point of not opening a discussion about who is right and wrong. Nor am I using this as advertising for my facility. Just giving opinions for people to read. And yes I played college baseball at a good division 1 school. But does that make me a good teacher. I think not.

  5. There can be many factors that may hurt a pitchers arm, but the main focus we take at The Zone Baseball Academy is we are going to train our pitchers to be prepared to take on the work loads your arm goes through in a course of a season.  In our opinion especially at the older level the fastball puts more stress on your arm than does a curveball considering the velocity we train our pitchers to throw at. The faster your arm speed is the more the stress. If taught right the curveball is a safe pitch to learn, (a quarterback throws a curveball everytime he throws).  What gets a pitcher in trouble throwing a curveball is when he tries to manipulate the pitch by the snapping of the wrist.  If pitchers would learn the mechanics of PRONATION he would learn the correct mechanics of throwing every pitch.

I would like to see more pre game warm ups of pitchers before they throw in a game or practice.  The body has to go through a vigorous wake up warm up before they even attempt to throw a ball.  This can take as long as 45 minutes if done right.  In my professional opinion the lack of preparation of the arm and body is doing more harm to pitchers than the number of pitches thrown and the curveball.  Your body has to be flexible and stable to execute a pitch without putting constraint on his arm or other areas of his body.  Ankle mobility, hip mobility, thorasic spine mobility, lumbar spine mobility, shoulder mobility, etc.  all aid in the delivery of a baseball.  Any constraint in these areas can put undue stress to a pitcher and can cause injury to the arm.  We have to do a better job of educating ourselfs as coaches to see if these areas are being addressed and we are doing all we can to protect pitchers from injury.

In closing I want evryone to know that no way am I pointing fingers at anyone.  Nor do I think I have all the answers.  I want to put as much information out there that I can and hope we can all come together as coaches to find the best ways to help our youth.  If anyone wants to see what we do to prepare pitchers I welcome you to our academy anytime.  I thought that this was a good time to share some of our ideas we use to train pitchers.  It has been very effective for us.  Thank you for allowing me a place to express opinions and ideas.

ps  as per pitch counts  We believe that the number of pitches per inning is more important to worry about than the total number of pitches.  And please coaches get your pitchers warmed and ready in plenty of time before entering the game. 8 pitches is not near enough to get the job done.

  6. Just to clarify on the subject of the velocities:  Keving Angelle 96 mph, Jaden Dillon 96 mph, Matt Hicks 94 mph, Forrest Zock 90 mph, Chase Angelle 87 mph, Wes Bingham 91 mph, James Swan 88 mph, just to name a few, recorded these numbers using a crow hop drill.  These numbers are not fabricated and they were used using a jugs radar gun.  Off the mound, you subtract an average of about 2-4 mph.  Our philospophy about pitching and throwing is rhythm, tempo, and momentum.  We feel that if you are going to throw hard, you have to organize your body to throw hard, by the intent of your drills.  I welcome anyone to visit our academy and witness our program first hand.  What you will see is a proper wake up/warm up (15 min), active stretching (5 min), core training (20 min), and the goal of the day (velocity, command, movement, velo/command, strengh/speed, etc) 60 min.  Our main purpose is to make sure our arms are ready and developed to take on the workloads that our bodies go through when delivering a pitch.

If you would like more information about The Zone Baseball Academy pm me and I will share everything about what we do.
