  1. For the AD to get involved would indicate that he might care about something other than football.  Can't have that.

For a school that doesn't care about anything but football WOS has done things NOBODY has done in the area!!  In 2005 our football team won Region III, in 2006 our boys basketball team won Region III, and in 2007 our boys track team won Region III.  I will admit since dropping down to 3A our baseball team has not produced much at all.  On the girls end of it our girls basketball team played in the Region III final game in 2005 & 2007, also winning two district titles in those years!  Our Softball team has been to the playoffs the last three years and went a few rounds last year.  Our girls track team has sent members to the regional meet for many straight years.  Don't get me wrong our football team is 45 - 5 over the last four years, but what other school has won three different regional titles in a three year span!!  Pardon me for asking but what has Silsbee and Evadale EVER done?????????????  Jealousy is eating you guys up!

being from HJ, with our STATE championship a couple of years back in basketball, i can assure you that i personally am not jealous in the least of your regional championships.

    [/quot

Bullets I don't think Mustangfan was directing the jealousy statement to you, and I don't see how being successful in one sport is comparable to being successful to three sports.  I do know that some people on here are always taking shots at our overall athletic program and have know idea what they are talking about.  Yes even though is good to win a state championship, an overall athletic program is measured by the success of the overall sports.  We have been pretty successful over the past several years and have gotten nothing but ridiculed by some people on here!  I do believe people like AggiesAreWe always take shots at the stangs and that gets old.  We can compare Silsbee and WOS over the last 5 years or 10 years or 20 years and I believe the Stangs can keep up and then some in there overall athletic program!!

  2. Didn't know we were giving out personal information on here, but I guess I struck a nerve!  I was talking about football, since we are on the FOOTBALL FORUM!!

True, this is the football forum. Are you saying that this thread is about football?

Oh, and no nerve struck here. I can take it as much as I can dish it out, not like some WOS people I know. ;) ;D

No, I am not saying this topic is just about football, but since this is a FOOTBALL FORUM I just didn't think anyone would think basketball on this forum!  I will be more specific for you next time, but I think everyone else got it!

  3. Isn't always like that. Some of the kids live to far from the school to ride a bike.

Some of our kids in Silsbee actually live more than 10 miles from the school(Caney Head), they manage.

I wish our we did things like silsbee!  I mean silsbee does everything much better than everybody else around! Hey, I got a joke for yall!  How do you an aggie moderator to cry?  Make him watch ANOTHER heartbraking loss for silsbee against those WOS MUSTANGS!

  4. I work in a school district in Houston, we do not provide bussing after practices, the parents, sisters, brothers, aunts, are involved enough in their their children's' lives to come pick them up at the appropriate time.  The safety argument is entirely weak, Orange is much safer than Houston, and there are plenty of people who will give your child a lift home no body will ever end up walking home.  WOCCISD is not a "rich" district as once thought of decades ago, times have changed, economies, chemical row, etc.  The fact of the matter is that this is all about wants and needs and when you are cutting a budget, bussing after practices is a WANT not a need.  Educating students and spending the money on programs to better educate them to pass the the TAKS test is a NEED.  I would like to see parents come to the board meetings and want to discuss their child's education and why he or she is failing the TAKS and SATs.  If you do not like being bussed then go to another school district who will bus them home, wait, there are NO OTHER districts who bus children home after practice; it's superfluous, ridiculous, and absolutely discusting to me that so many people are outraged by such petty issues.  It is good to be OUTRAGED about your child's education, not a bussing issue, let's fight for them to get tutorial programs and for the parents to work one on one with their precious children.  Odds are 0.1% that a child will make a living being a professional sports player.  Basically, there are no parents who care, and the ones who do care, wind up caring about the wrong things, sports is an extra curricular ACTIVITY, a reward, for doing well in school, passing classes, and hopefully passing TAKS.  Just like with everything else in this tumultuous world what is backwards is now forwards, and what was forwards is now backwards, and it is time to deconstruct, reconstruct, and construct your thinking. Education is first, education changes the world. Even in a low SES district, the one I work in, we have many exemplary schools, it can be done.

Lets see why would a school teacher in Houston care about our transportation issue?  Well anyway atleast your not one of those very out of touch with reality and very USELESS board members!  I don't think that anyone argues that WOS is one of the few schools that gets bussed from activities, but we are saying that this is a need here and has been a need for some time!  Whose fault is it that these kids aren't prepared to take these tests?  How many times have some of these campuses been unacceptable?  What personnel changes have been made at these unacceptable campuses?  Who is held accountable?  What is going on here has very little to do with anything else but a few childlike board members with personal issues with certain people in the district and they are using what LITTLE power they have to get back at these people!  wosUTRICEalum, It does bother me that you don't think a parent should be concerned about the safety of their child and only the education.  Lets see here you call yourself wosUTRICEalum, I think one of our board members is a UT and RICE alum!  I will say this wosUTRICEalum I do think that you should be thankful that you are teaching in Houston and not one of those Pathetic people that call themselves caring about the future of our kids and district!  Lets see isn't it the duty of a board member to keep the district out of debt?  How did WOS get to be all the sudden get in 2.8 million dollars of debt?  Who is responsible for that?  Who is being held accountable?  You can't blame everything on the kids or Coach Hooks!  As a matter of fact if Coach Hooks would have only won 30% of his games like some of WOS schools passing 30% of the TAKS, then he would be fired!  Who is held accountable by these genius board members?  wosUTRICEalum just remember this, what happens in the dark will come to the light!

  5. Griff I gotta disagree with you on the amount of people living in Orange being the cause.  In 1986 there was over 2,000 students at WOS H.S., and there is currently under 700.  Do you mean to tell me that in the last 22 years almost 70% of the people have vacated the WOS school district.  There is no way!!  It has to do with the leadership in the district and mainly the leadership at certain campuses!!  I would NEVER let my child go to the WOS H.S. solely based on that reason!!  If you want to know why the enrollment is dropping the quality of leadership definately comes into play with MANY people in this town.  It is truly is ashame to because I attended WOS and it used to be a quality school, maybe the most quality around!!  I ran into one of my old h.s. teachers at Wal Mart a few weeks back and she was telling me how poor that the leadership was and why she had left.  It is truly ashame for whatever reason some people get jobs and keep them for all the wrong reasons!!

  6. I just spoke with a coach at WOS and they confirmed that Toby Foreman will be back at WOS.  He has been coming to some of the practices already.  Congrats to Toby!!  You will DEFINATELY make us better.  I know my son is VERY excited.  I guess that old saying is true, THERE IS NO PLACE LIKE HOME!!

  7. I definately have to agree with silverhat.  If the oc is not calling the plays when the game is on the line, then why is he even the oc.  I also would like too know who was calling the plays in the second half against La Vega where we had ZERO first downs or against Giddings this year where we had 2 first downs.  What I have learned over the current oc's era is that the bigger the game the smaller the productivity out of the offense!

  8. foreman coached track and football. not baseball.

whats wrong with the track program?

Once again, I think that mustangfan2's original post was referring to the overall loss of those coaches.  There was four head coaches lost last year, and in a school that size it will definately have an impact.  I don't think anything was mentioned about anything being wrong with the track program, except for the fact that there was not alot of girls out.  As long as I can remember WOS has always had a strong track program.

  9. I hope Michael does come and get this job, at least whoever gets the job next will bring the Certa/Bearden Tourney back.  Whoever hired the guy that just got fired needs needs to re-examin the hiring process.  What has happened to WOS athletics? 2007 Baseball TWO WINS!! 2007 Girls Volleyball ZERO WINS!!  2007/2008 Girls basketball ZERO WINS!!  2007 Girls and Boys Soccer combined for a total of FOUR WINS!! Someone told me the other day that the girls track team doesn't even have enough girls out for a relay team!!  For years I didn't think that coaching really mattered much at WOS, but the last 365 has proved me wrong!  Losing McCarter, Orebo, Foreman, and Westbrook hurt more than I thought it would!!

Why is Foremans name on this list what else did he coach besides football?

I don't think it's a matter of what sport, but a matter of what ALL the coaches listed brought to the table!!  I definately think that losing these coaches as well ab losing Both Foreman's and Roy Locks DEFINATELY has made an impact!!

  10. This is about how good mlc aka bozo will be next year.  Their varsity had 2 wins, jv 0 wins, freshman 1 win, and their coach has applied for every head coaching job in the state.  I think the mlc schoolboard and administration should be commended for hiring such a great athletic leader.  Lets see he has been there less than two years, ran almost every coach off, ran off alot of talent, and has destroyed the football program.  GO BOJO!!!!!!

Your right the football program still has problems but in LCM defense in other sports they are pretty good and thats one thing WOS cant say except for softball.jmo

Hey 77 you are correct on most of the sports, but our boys track team won the region last year and are looking pretty strong this year!!  We also have a good boys and girls tennis team year in and year out!!

  11. Thank You Texans!!  Some people acutally do think they know everything!!  I don't think that there is any possible way WOS will have a loss in the first 11 games of the year, but if they do it could ONLY be Nederland!!  That is DEFINATELY the worst schedule that WOS has ever had and if they don't walk through it I would be shocked!!

  12. I do apologize for not knowing about the change from USL to ULL and now to UL.  Ok, that makes ONE D-1 scholarship football player that Price has had to work.  Hmmmm lets see how many games has he won, about 80% of them.  That means that there is some coaching going on.  I think 3 Stooges on this board should go out and coach this team and see what there record, or better yet give some names of some coaches that would be better fit for the BH job.

  13. I don't think that anyone is saying Dayton is scared of anyone.  I was told by a member of the WOS and Dayton staff that Dayton was not going to keep the series going again, but they did agree to scrimmage.  Coaches drop and add teams for different reasons, in this case I don't think fear had anything to do with it.  I do know for a fact that this is the worse schedule that WOS has ever had.
