  1. I believe that LP has just as good a chance as of beating PAM as any in the State. Sure, PAM has undeniable talent in the skilled positions. But if you honestly take a good look at their o-line, they have some techinical defficiencies that could plague them in this matchup.

    PAM's Strength - D1 Skilled Position players
PAM's Weakness - Lack of Discipline on the OLine

LP's Strength - Defensive Front 7 (very mobile, always moving)
LP's Weakness - Stalling on offense

Should be a good game. The team with the least amount of turnovers will win this game.
  2. The old school " just lock the door method " is how a lot of things should be handled. Too many parents now-a-days want to "protect" their babies. What happens in the locker room, stays in the locker room.

On a side note, I think that the behavior of our kids has taken a plunge due to no implimentation of corporal punishment in the schools anymore. The thought of me catching an ass whoopin at school, then getting it 5x worse when I got home definitely curbed any behavior issues I had.
  3. I see where Dude is coming from. Some fans just like to think they know everything about the game, praising the coaches when their team wins, but then ridicule them when they lose. These same people think that they should be the one's with the headset on calling the plays. All in all, that's why they are called FAN-atics, because they're crazy for their team.

Seems like Dude try to resolve the debate and explain himself numerous times, and 999 was acting like the little brother on the family road trip with his finger an inch away from your face saying, "I'm not touching you!!!"

  4. No, Im not saying they didnt make it because they're not from Nederland although from the looks of things that might be the case. Im just saying 2 allstars are not on the roster. I know most of the kids in this group and the missing 2 are way above alot of this team. Its not my place to name names because neither of the missing kids are my own, but if you had anything to do with that 13 yr old league this past season you should know who they are.

Yahtzee....I personally watched numerous games this year at that ballpark and can come up with 1 kid that might should have been considered for that all star team. BTW..he was a Nederland boy. Not real sure of these 2 non-Nederland boys that you are referring about. From the look of things, the names posted on this board seem pretty fair based on the talent pool in this age group. Mid-County Babe Ruth has always been known for its integrity during tournament play ie. "The Best 9 Play". I will make this statement, this is the 1st year that I'm concerned about Little League daddy-ball infecting this 13 yr old league. Bottom Line...."The Best 9 Better Play"!!!

The "Best 9" SHOULD always play, but thats usually not the case in todays world NHS82. There will always be fathers who go to great lengths to make sure their son makes a team or gets to play (when they obviously shouldn't). But I digress....

This is the first year that some of these kids are actually playing "REAL" baseball, ie 90ft basepaths and so on. Utilizing experience in these instances is not only smart, but necessary. It has come to my attention that a few of the players have played on some successfull select teams (Sampere, Balsamo, and Bass). This is about the age where leaders emerge, and these 3 especially need to step up into that role, and guide their teammates through the tournament.

Some dads/other coaches have also mentioned the batting order being somewhat "lacking", and that some kids were obviously playing out of position. Hopefully, the coaches can drop the Little League politics and put the "Best 9" on the field, so these kids can be in the best position to win.

    Good luck fellas

  5. Dude / Wise Guy, ya'll sure do agree with each other alot?

Go figure. Not hard to figure out huh Penny?

    Can you say, straw man?

I believe that he is adressing the subject fully. His evaulation of why our running game was unsucessful was due to a lack of production with the front 5. Dave Crommett even said you can only do so much with 170 lb centers and 180 lb tackles. The fact is we had a crummy offensive line, and we had depth and talent at the RB pos, whether it was Bass, Breaux, or the recently departed Roy.

This all being said, the past is the past, and I look forward to our bright future!

  6. Theres a big reason why the bulldogs went to the spread last years,,,,,,,,we did not have a running back that could shoulder the load.

I would have to disagree on that statement. We had a very talented back last year who couldn't produce do to lack of running lanes provided by the offensive line. We could have had Adrian Peterson as our RB, and we still wouldn't have had a running game. Offensive Line needs to step it up big next year if we hope to even have a chance to make it to the playoffs.

    To reply to Wise Guy:

He was right on about the O-Line, those guys performed lack luster at best for the majority for most of the season! Even the RB weighed more than 2 or 3 of his lineman. The O-line is definitely goin to have to kick it up a knotch this season!

Am I the only dog fan that thought our oline did pretty good?  How many sack did they give up?  Not many.....

Would have been nice to have a running back that could have made someone miss, break a tackle?  Some of you said that our rb's were bigger than the line, i bet some of the lineman were faster than the rb's.  A good running back makes a good offensive line

you're right, but they shouldn't give up many sacks in an offense that is based on quick passes...   I think the other fans are referring to the dogs' inability to effectively run the ball. I also agree that a good back makes a good o-line but that can go the other way as well... I think they tend to feed off of each other's success.

Perhaps you should go back and look at the game film dude! Bass (#11), for the most part, and Breaux (#14), were having to break tackles IN THE BACKFIELD THE ENTIRE SEASON!!! But of course our amazing offensive line wouldn't let that happen, they were too busy not giving up any sacks. Which brings me to remembering Bellow laying in the fetal position at least 3 or 4 times a game! Think before you speak man, just because you know an O-Lineman or are the parent or relative of one or even are one, doesn't excuse then horrendous blocking performance of last year.

Plus, Bass was a OF and a pinch runner for the baseball team this year. But athletes with speed and quickness don't normally suit those positions (sarcasm intended!)

And one more thing, you probably are the only person who thought the O-line performed admirably last season

    The dude abides..

Take a pill dude.  The o-line had trouble with the run last year, but that not suprising considering thier youth.  They will be a year older and from what I have heard a year bigger.  We should have a better year this year if the OC will call some run plays.

I don't know about you Bigdog, but I think that Dude is right on track. Nederland's lack of a running attack last year wasn't because of no talent at the position, it was because of lackluster O-line performance.

That being said, I do think with the return of 2 offensive lineman and 1 who played a few games before grade troubles could translate into an improvement in the 08 season. As long as Bellow is given time to throw, I believe that our offense will be on pace to shatter some records.

  7. Theres a big reason why the bulldogs went to the spread last years,,,,,,,,we did not have a running back that could shoulder the load.

  8. Its good to hear that Bass is back but i think works better for us this year is to use multiple backs in one game (meaning Bass,Breaux, and Roy getting playing time) i think the one thing that worries me the most that Dayton might do is the sweep around the ends which several teams has beat us on this year hopefully well get that under control on friday night and play an injury free game

I think that Barrow has done a good job of rotating the players in and out at RB this year because each one has their stong areas. Bass (Sr., 5' 7'' 175) is great at draws, screens, and cathing out of the backfield, while Breaux is more of a straight-ahead, north/south runner (Sr., 6' 185). Roy (So., 5' 11'' 190) is strong and runs hard, while Salenga (Fr., 5' 5'' 140) can dart across the field and make people miss. The running back-by-committtee may serve us well in the coming weeks.

It'll be interesting to see how Barrow will utilize these players Friday, and how Dayton plans to stop it.

  9. Looks as is Bass will be back this week, too. After some of the back ups got some good work in last week against LCM, I see Nederland's running attack to be effective against Dayton. Dayton is sadly mistaken if they think they only have to cover one good receiver because there still is Brady and Broussard to think about. Gonna be a good one this Friday at the Dog House.

    Nederland 28 -  Dayton 17

  10. Cameron is an effective running back for the Spread, but the O-Line is lackluster at best when it comes to run blocking. Adrian Peterson couldn't even run with our O-Line. One of the reasons Nederland has moved to the Spread is because of the lack of size and run blocking ability. I will give our line credit for an above average job at pass protection.

From what I understand, Roy has not been giving much effort at practice. I have been told since he is not getting much PT, he feels there is no reason to try hard in practice.
