  1. I believe that LP has just as good a chance as of beating PAM as any in the State. Sure, PAM has undeniable talent in the skilled positions. But if you honestly take a good look at their o-line, they have some techinical defficiencies that could plague them in this matchup. PAM's Strength - D1 Skilled Position players PAM's Weakness - Lack of Discipline on the OLine LP's Strength - Defensive Front 7 (very mobile, always moving) LP's Weakness - Stalling on offense Should be a good game. The team with the least amount of turnovers will win this game.
  2. A lot of what SoHo runs are quick flares out of empty sets. When I ahve watched them play, they did not stretch the field often.
  3. Hope in one hand and crap in another. See which one fills up first. All anyone can do is show up to play this Friday and take care of business. Go out there, rock some heads and let the paramedics sort em out.
  4. Just out of curiosity, when was the last time LCM beat Nederland? Also, I think it was mentioned in an earlier post, what happened the last time LCM played Nederland for a playoff spot? Just curious
  5. Not to be a stickler or anything, but the Port Arthur News says this game tied the highest scoring total with 71 points. However, I believe the 2005 meeting between these teams was a Nederland 42 - PNG 35 game, which is a total of 77 points... just sayin...
  6. The old school " just lock the door method " is how a lot of things should be handled. Too many parents now-a-days want to "protect" their babies. What happens in the locker room, stays in the locker room. On a side note, I think that the behavior of our kids has taken a plunge due to no implimentation of corporal punishment in the schools anymore. The thought of me catching an ass whoopin at school, then getting it 5x worse when I got home definitely curbed any behavior issues I had.
  7. Well, it's good that he's back in practice. Is he in full go, or just 50-50? Full Pads or just a helmet? It would be great if Ned was back in full strength heading into district! If they're pumping on all cylinders, they'll be tough to stop
  8. Wasn't given a reason, just that he didn't show this morning. He's a real good kid, and has a bright future in baseball. Hate to see him not playing
  9. Looks like its a one horse QB race because Tyler Smith is no longer playing football.
  10. Whoa whoa whoa What's with all the hostility guys! Bellow is a great athlete and competitor. I'm sure he's gonna do fine this season. I bet some colleges offer him, but I think he'll go baseball in the long run.
  11. I see where Dude is coming from. Some fans just like to think they know everything about the game, praising the coaches when their team wins, but then ridicule them when they lose. These same people think that they should be the one's with the headset on calling the plays. All in all, that's why they are called FAN-atics, because they're crazy for their team. Seems like Dude try to resolve the debate and explain himself numerous times, and 999 was acting like the little brother on the family road trip with his finger an inch away from your face saying, "I'm not touching you!!!"
  12. I was told by some good contact out at Lamar that coaches have spoke w/ Zach Skinner - Silsbee '06 - OL - Played at Blinn Ryan Butler - Nederland '06 - WR/DB/KR - Played at Trinity Valley CC Zach Bass - Nederland '06 - OL - Played at Mary-Hardin Baylor All would be eligible for one more season come Lamar's opening season, and all 3 could contribute
  13. Yahtzee....I personally watched numerous games this year at that ballpark and can come up with 1 kid that might should have been considered for that all star team. BTW..he was a Nederland boy. Not real sure of these 2 non-Nederland boys that you are referring about. From the look of things, the names posted on this board seem pretty fair based on the talent pool in this age group. Mid-County Babe Ruth has always been known for its integrity during tournament play ie. "The Best 9 Play". I will make this statement, this is the 1st year that I'm concerned about Little League daddy-ball infecting this 13 yr old league. Bottom Line...."The Best 9 Better Play"!!! The "Best 9" SHOULD always play, but thats usually not the case in todays world NHS82. There will always be fathers who go to great lengths to make sure their son makes a team or gets to play (when they obviously shouldn't). But I digress.... This is the first year that some of these kids are actually playing "REAL" baseball, ie 90ft basepaths and so on. Utilizing experience in these instances is not only smart, but necessary. It has come to my attention that a few of the players have played on some successfull select teams (Sampere, Balsamo, and Bass). This is about the age where leaders emerge, and these 3 especially need to step up into that role, and guide their teammates through the tournament. Some dads/other coaches have also mentioned the batting order being somewhat "lacking", and that some kids were obviously playing out of position. Hopefully, the coaches can drop the Little League politics and put the "Best 9" on the field, so these kids can be in the best position to win. Good luck fellas
  14. How are the 13 year olds lookin? I've spoken to a few parents, and I heard there are a few scrappy kids on the team, but may be lacking in the middle infield. One of the dads told me the bats to watch out for are Campbell, Sampere, Bass, and Shoefstal (sp). When is the first tournament?
  15. Go figure. Not hard to figure out huh Penny? Can you say, straw man? I believe that he is adressing the subject fully. His evaulation of why our running game was unsucessful was due to a lack of production with the front 5. Dave Crommett even said you can only do so much with 170 lb centers and 180 lb tackles. The fact is we had a crummy offensive line, and we had depth and talent at the RB pos, whether it was Bass, Breaux, or the recently departed Roy. This all being said, the past is the past, and I look forward to our bright future!
  16. I would have to disagree on that statement. We had a very talented back last year who couldn't produce do to lack of running lanes provided by the offensive line. We could have had Adrian Peterson as our RB, and we still wouldn't have had a running game. Offensive Line needs to step it up big next year if we hope to even have a chance to make it to the playoffs. To reply to Wise Guy: He was right on about the O-Line, those guys performed lack luster at best for the majority for most of the season! Even the RB weighed more than 2 or 3 of his lineman. The O-line is definitely goin to have to kick it up a knotch this season! Am I the only dog fan that thought our oline did pretty good? How many sack did they give up? Not many..... Would have been nice to have a running back that could have made someone miss, break a tackle? Some of you said that our rb's were bigger than the line, i bet some of the lineman were faster than the rb's. A good running back makes a good offensive line you're right, but they shouldn't give up many sacks in an offense that is based on quick passes... I think the other fans are referring to the dogs' inability to effectively run the ball. I also agree that a good back makes a good o-line but that can go the other way as well... I think they tend to feed off of each other's success. Perhaps you should go back and look at the game film dude! Bass (#11), for the most part, and Breaux (#14), were having to break tackles IN THE BACKFIELD THE ENTIRE SEASON!!! But of course our amazing offensive line wouldn't let that happen, they were too busy not giving up any sacks. Which brings me to remembering Bellow laying in the fetal position at least 3 or 4 times a game! Think before you speak man, just because you know an O-Lineman or are the parent or relative of one or even are one, doesn't excuse then horrendous blocking performance of last year. Plus, Bass was a OF and a pinch runner for the baseball team this year. But athletes with speed and quickness don't normally suit those positions (sarcasm intended!) And one more thing, you probably are the only person who thought the O-line performed admirably last season The dude abides.. Take a pill dude. The o-line had trouble with the run last year, but that not suprising considering thier youth. They will be a year older and from what I have heard a year bigger. We should have a better year this year if the OC will call some run plays. I don't know about you Bigdog, but I think that Dude is right on track. Nederland's lack of a running attack last year wasn't because of no talent at the position, it was because of lackluster O-line performance. That being said, I do think with the return of 2 offensive lineman and 1 who played a few games before grade troubles could translate into an improvement in the 08 season. As long as Bellow is given time to throw, I believe that our offense will be on pace to shatter some records.
  18. I think that Barrow has done a good job of rotating the players in and out at RB this year because each one has their stong areas. Bass (Sr., 5' 7'' 175) is great at draws, screens, and cathing out of the backfield, while Breaux is more of a straight-ahead, north/south runner (Sr., 6' 185). Roy (So., 5' 11'' 190) is strong and runs hard, while Salenga (Fr., 5' 5'' 140) can dart across the field and make people miss. The running back-by-committtee may serve us well in the coming weeks. It'll be interesting to see how Barrow will utilize these players Friday, and how Dayton plans to stop it.
  19. Looks as is Bass will be back this week, too. After some of the back ups got some good work in last week against LCM, I see Nederland's running attack to be effective against Dayton. Dayton is sadly mistaken if they think they only have to cover one good receiver because there still is Brady and Broussard to think about. Gonna be a good one this Friday at the Dog House. Nederland 28 - Dayton 17
  20. Cameron is an effective running back for the Spread, but the O-Line is lackluster at best when it comes to run blocking. Adrian Peterson couldn't even run with our O-Line. One of the reasons Nederland has moved to the Spread is because of the lack of size and run blocking ability. I will give our line credit for an above average job at pass protection. From what I understand, Roy has not been giving much effort at practice. I have been told since he is not getting much PT, he feels there is no reason to try hard in practice.
  21. You know what's going to be nice to see? A group of PNG seniors that will never EVER know what it's like to be victorious in Mid County Madness.... ;D ;D ;D! On the real though, Nederland's offense is going to be WAY too much for the 'stingy' defense of PNG. Like my boy Ring said, it's gonna be the Unstoppable Force against the Immovable Object. So PNG fans, be ready for the show, because you're about to see the "Greatest Show on Turf"!
  22. Central's D will be putting a lot of pressure on Kirby this week. If our offensive line and backs do a good job of picking up the schemes, our offense will do fine. If not, it's gonna be a long night at Babe Zaharius Stadium.
  23. They will beat Vidor, those guys have to be the most horribly coached team in district. And they mught beat Ozen, but other than that, Lumberton will lose to Nederland, PNG, Central, and LCM.
  24. In my opinion, Nederland will be facing probably one of the fastest teams they will encounter in district play, in Central. Their skilled positions players and their D-Line will pose obstacle for Sophomore Sensation, Kirby Bellow. But some see an obstacle as an oppurtunity. I also think that Central will be facing a tenacious defense, in Nederland. Apparently, Central has been facing some offensive woes, and the Bulldogs are not the team stumble upon offensively. It's gonna be a good one this Friday. Penalties (or lack their of), turnovers, and offensive consistency will determine the outcome for these teams.
